Wake Up Lyrics - Rage Against The Machine

Review The Song (41)

Come on!
Uggh!

Come on, although ya try to discredit
Ya still never read it
The needle, I'll thread it
Radically poetic
Standin' with the fury that they had in '66
And like E-Double I'm mad
Still knee-deep in the system's shit
Hoover, he was a body remover
I'll give ya a dose
But it can never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
sponsored links
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Yeah!
Yeah, back in this...
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
I'm like takin' photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he
abandon his supposed obedience to white liberal doctrine
of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism'
'Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them.
Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them
and neutralize them, and neutralize them, and neutralize them'

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

How long? Not long, cause what you reap is what you sow

Great defense | Reviewer: Sherae | 3/11/14

All I want to say is that I am so glad that this group pointed out who really shot Malcolm X and that to this day people believe the lies that Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam did it. People don't know that days before his death, Malcolm apologized to the Elijah Muhahamd and The NOI and requested to be a member again. Minister Farrakhan and the NOI loved Malcolm and are very close to his family to this day.

So for a group of white guys who spoke the truth about this is amazing and extremely brave because the CIA don't want celebrities and people of great influence to talk about this.

How are they hypocrites? | Reviewer: Mike D. | 11/28/12

If they were hypocrites they never would have broken up. Zack didn't want to make albums any faster than 4 years apart. When they released two in roughly an 18 month period, he quit. That my friends, is not capitalism. Or maybe its proof that Zack isn't a hypocrite, and maybe you think the rest of the band was.

capitalism is not the problem | Reviewer: fulrage | 11/11/12

Capitalism is not the problem, and is clearly not what they are raging against. Capitalism has led to a greater increase in the well being of more people than any other system in history. It is based on voluntary interaction- you don't bring a gun to the grocery store to force them to take your money. The problem is government. Government is a parasite on the productive capacity of capitalism. It distorts the amazing potential of voluntarism by bringing a gun into the conversation. 'do this rule or regulation or go to jail.' 'Pay this tax or go to jail' 'Folow this law or go to jail'. And if you resist... how did the lyric go again? "it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them"

Prob with Capitalism is the people | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/24/12

Capitalism is only has good as the people. If the people serve God then they put the interest of their neighbor equal with their own but without God....Well you can see where our country is going due to greed, selfishness, etc. That's why people love Socialism. See they hate God but what some sort of moral control over the people so they invent Socialism. But socialism is the worst of moral evils cause no one serves their brother out of love but rather the state "takes/steals" what it thinks you should give. It is a spiritually evil system.

"I beleive in a free market system, but as Einstein predicted, Capitalism leads to social decay and will never "last"."
Well one man sad it long before Einstein, that Capitalism is doomed from start. And we all know who that is. I just dont get it, why are people so afraid of Marx and communism?
All the lies western media says...

Nice | Reviewer: Jan Rokkjær | 11/22/11

They own the media so they get noticed and they can get anything about anyone to be truth in the world because they own the world ... the crulest "people" who assasinated Diana - Michael Jackson - Oluf Palme - and so many more speak up as Martin Luther King Said WE ARE ALL ONE LOVE OVER GOLD LOVE IS THE LAW

Dilemma | Reviewer: MAD Wave | 6/3/11

Specch unfortunately changes nothing, blood can change almost anything, this is NOT a good thing. Peopleneed to cause violence to get noticed but violence is the exact thing that they're trying to avoid. The system is biased so that only the people whose oppinions support the power dons can be made noticable

Fascist America | Reviewer: Beware | 1/23/10

Beware of the military industrial complex. Beware of the Illuminati that is controlling this nation. Research and think for yourself. DON'T WATCH TELEVISION! The media white washes and brain washes. Wake someone else up.

You hit it on the head bro!! Capitalism is the exploitation of the weak and the POWER to the priveledged. I beleive in a free market system, but as Einstein predicted, Capitalism leads to social decay and will never "last". The classic thought of a Stratification System, Rich get richer and the poor get poorer. All this bail out nonsense it a transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich, until we RISE UP and take it back. But that will never happen. Too much propaganda from and dependancy on the state. OBAMA played the role of exploiting all the people who would hear his propaganda, I worn you he has his own agenda, not that of which you will ever hear or know, until its too late. Just you wait and see......This capitalism system had reached its end. I am looking for the Trojan Horse to stroll up any day now....

HYPOCRITES!? | Reviewer: CrazyBass | 11/23/09

Why do so many people criticize RATM for being hypocrites? I mean they are getting loads of messages across and who wouldnt choose to be rich given the opportunity? they still give millions to various causes, and somehow i think that they dont just want to just "Fuck chicks" (what a sad and shallow view! What about the sheer thrill of playing to huge audiences?!) and watever else, they do genuinely want a change in the world and what better way to do it than playing excellent music and conveying their political views through music that millions upon millions of people listen to? and if it earns them an excellent wage in the process then whats wrong with that? everyone is a hypocrite in their own ways - im sure anyone offered some big record deal and wads of money to become a big rock star would snatch the opportunity without question. RATM's messages have changed my political views drastically as i am sure it has many others. They do have a point, even if all they really want to do is "Fuck Chicks".

Face it no one gives a damn about truth and shit.no one makes music because he wants to show u what's really happens they all do it for money so they will be able to fuck some chicks.don't you ever try to find truths when listening to music..no one will tell you anything.the truth is that capitalism gives you the motivation to be a better man in every part of your life..

if a capitalist society makes a person feel like being a better person at the expense of others and causes suffering how can you feel better about yourself. what makes a person better money going to church the american dream? well the american dream corrupts the world and segregates its people causing thm to hate each other and to strike with war. killing innocence and glorifying greed to developing countries and cause a rift in their own countries thats the real truth. to find it we only need to ask about everything where do we get the stuff we get, what happens for the material good we use to be in our posession. we need to look further into our own lives to see how we are living off others pain and suffering. if anyone wants to contest this thats fine we all have our opinions we are individuals but i challenge you to see if you truely believe yorself or if its just a self defense, self preservation tool to make us think we are right about our lifestyle i was a different person before that thought i was always right and never thought or cared about anyone else now i see that every person is sacred and deserves happiness lets be one for the first time in existense.

The true | Reviewer: Leo | 10/15/09

This is a good song.It speak about the civil right movement and mentions many prominent figures such MLKJ and Malcom X. As far as music is concern there are many song which speak the just listen to some Bob Marley like Redemption Song,One love all most Reggae and some Dancehall like Same Ting Again by Baby Sham. Music is full of truth just take time to listen and I'm a fan of this song and its message. Just listen to some conscious tune people and hear the truth and P.S America was built of the land of the Indians, the sweat of the Africans, and the greed of the white man.Maybe Marx was on to sometime. Success is a bad thing when it comes from others hard work but does not benefit them.
