Touch Of Grey Lyrics
Performed by Grateful DeadReview The Song (10)
Must be getting early, clock are running late.
Paint by number morning sky looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere, light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains I don't care, but it's alright
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.
I see you've got your list out, say your piece and get out
Guess I get the gist of it, but it's alright
Sorry that you feel that way.
The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a touch of grey
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.
It's a lesson to me, the ables, and the bakers, and the seas
The abc's we all must face, try to win a little grace.
It's a lesson to me, the deltas and the East and the freeze
The abc's we all think of, try to heed a little love.
I know the rent is in arrears, the dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears, but it's alright
Cow is giving kerosene, kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene, but it's alright
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.
Shoe is on the hand that fits, there's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit, but it's alright
Oh well a touch of gray, kinda suits you anyway,
That was all I had to say, but it's alright
I will get by, I will get by, I will get by, I will survive.

If you never had the privilege to see the Grateful Dead perform live you really missed out...what a group of wonderfully talented musicians! I can always listen to their music and it takes me to a wonderful place...and no, I am not on drugs.
This song helps people going through hard times! | Reviewer: Matt | 7/6/10
I'll bet this song is an anthem in many a household. Just when you thought you couldn't handle the problems in your life any longer, the Grateful dead wrote a song just for you, telling you to relax, let go, that life has it's trials and tribulations which everyone must face, and you will get by, you will survive.
This is indeed a very inspirational song for those who feel their life is a mess, (and their kids lives as well) because it lets you know life isn't perfect for anyone, and you are strong enough to face what's on your plate.
I've even read comments on Youtube where a person said they were going to commit suicide, but when they heard this song, they cried and decided to carry on. And this was from a 19 year old in 2010!
So unjustly critical! | Reviewer: Sergio | 4/5/10
Amanda: why don't you try to understand things BEFORE you blast them as "DEPRESSING"?
It is NOT the sunrise which is crappy, but the "Pain by Number" morning sky which looks phoney...
As for the rest, if you can't understand irony and sarcasm about someone who is listing the abc of all your faults while sending you to hang... you seem to have a problem...
Uplifting Song | Reviewer: User0768 | 4/1/10
I think that this song is great. You don't get a clear picture of what the song is like from just the lyrics. The melody of the music behind the lyrics is actually very cheerful sounding.
I'm going to take a very simplistic view in the message that I get from this song, and it's this:
Just because everything has gone to crap, doesn't mean that you should worry or stress out, "It's all right". That's why this song makes me happy.

This song seems depressing to me. The sunrise is crappy, the dog is nothing but bones, a almost full grown man can't read, and someone needs serious orthodonture. A student of mine's fav. song though!
What a song! | Reviewer: Alvarito | 2/29/08
It's so clear and simple... that's what i call magic, , beauty must be simple and clear. As with 'rocking in the free world' (Neil Young), 'electric avenue'(Eddy Grant), and lots more, they told back to the 70's and 80's those problems we're suffering right now (poverty, drugs abuse, abuse of political or economical power, unconsciously consuming, several lack of culture in our kids and teenagers, etc....) with poetry and simplicity.

Great song. The video was great but started the decline of the band. All of a sudden the fan base doubled in size, and the "scene" was more important to the "Touch-Heads" (as we called them). The extra headaches made the band stop caring and Garcia hid in his addiction.
everything was good | Reviewer: Fred | 7/29/07
i might have to diagree with Mr.Danny Martin both the video and song is good, the live recording kinda is unique to the Grateful Dead. Because the Grateful Dead was one of the bands who performed great at live events.
Greatful dead-a touch of grey | Reviewer: Danny Martin | 5/12/07
a good song the video is spoilt a bit as it is filmed live
