The Test Lyrics

O-o-o-o-oh
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
Can you hear me now?
yeeeh
Am I coming through?
Am I coming through?
Is this sweet and pure and true?

Devil came by this morning,
Said he had
Something to show me
I was looking like I've never seen a face before
Here we go now, let's slide into the open door

Pictures and things that I've done before
Circling around me,
Out here on the floor
I'm dreaming this and I'm dreaming that
Regretting nothing
Think about that

I'm seeing waves breaking form to my horizon
Yeah I'm shining
I'm seeing waves breaking form to my horizon
Lord, I'm shining

Are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you?
Are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you?

You know I always lost my mind
I can't explain
Where I've been
You know I always lost my mind
I can't explain
Where I've been
You know I almost lost my mind
I couldn't explain
What I've seen

but now i think i see the light

lend me your hand
lend me your hand
lend me your hand

I'm seeing waves breaking forms to my horizon
Yeah I'm shining
I'm seeing waves breaking forms to my horizon, lord
I'm shining yeah
Are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you?
Are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you?

I'm happy now i'm too late
To find that the images are fading away

You know I always lost my mind
I can't explain
Where I've been
You know I almost lost my mind
I couldn't explain
The things I've seen
But now I think I see the light
Now I think I see the light

Lend me your hand
Lend me your hand
Lend me your hand
Lend me your hand
Lend me your hand

I'm seeing waves breaking form to my horizon
Yeah I'm shining
I'm seeing waves breaking form to my horizon, lord
I'm shining

Oh are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you
Oh are you hearing me?
Like I'm hearing you?
(Repeat)

You know I always lost my mind
But now I'm home, and I'm free

Did I pass the acid test?
Did I pass the acid test?
(Repeat)

You'd better go to bed now
(Repeat)

My heart and soul, they are free
My heart and soul, they are free

You know i almost lost my mind
but now im home and im free

Did i pass the acid test?
Did I pass the acid test?
(repeat)

Acid Test Origins | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/26/11

The original 'Acid Test' had nothing to do with acid, it was from the California Gold Rush in the second half of the 19th century. Gold doesn't react to most acids, but does dissolve in a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acid(s).

To confirm that a find was real gold it was given 'the acid test'.

Acid Test | Reviewer: Nando | 4/7/11

An 'acid test' determined whether someone could cope with the psychological demands of taking LSD. But in this case, I hear this as the acid test of life itself. I don't think it refers to drug use at all.

i love this song. | Reviewer: jambii | 6/9/10

It might not be so much as the "acid test" specifically, so much as a journey through a hallucinogenic experience in general. Seeing things you've done before in a new light, while seeing the other things in life you haven't before, then recognizing that your trip will fade-- and learning to accept life as a whole, in a relative, comparative way, depending on one's past and hopeful future. I think the term "acid test" was thrown in there as a sort of metaphor to each and every trip, to simulate the feeling of whatever drug it may be referring to.

Or, in a sober context (if possible), feeling like your life is out of control and finding serenity in the least likely place possible.

The music video for this song is actually really great. I suggest any fans of this song check it out asap.

The Acid Tests | Reviewer: xhearingxcolorsx | 1/18/10

"The Acid Tests were a series of psychedelic parties held by Ken Kesey in the San Francisco Bay Area during the mid 1960s, centered entirely around the use, experimentation, and advocacy of LSD, also known as 'acid.'

The name 'Acid Test' was coined by Kesey, after the term 'acid test' used by gold miners in the 1850s. He advertised the parties with posters that read, 'Can YOU Pass The Acid Test?', and the name was later popularized in Tom Wolfe's 1968 book, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Musical performances by the Grateful Dead were commonplace, along with black lights, strobe lights, and fluorescent paint. The Acid Tests are notable for their influence on the LSD-based counterculture of the San Francisco area and subsequent transition from the beat generation to the hippie movement."
