Thin Lizzy is among rock music's elite and a synonym for
classic rock. As one of the first bands to break out of
Ireland, Thin Lizzy's music was hard, yet melodic; their
lyrics romanticized stories of love, love-lost, and street
life as well as Irish folklore. Their signature double
guitar lead sound has influenced countless bands beyond the
rock genre. With thirteen albums to their credit, they have
had over fourteen top 20 hits in Europe while classic
tracks such as "The Boys Are Back In Town", "Jailbreak",
and "Cowboy Song" have become staples of American rock
radio.
Formed in 1969 by Dublin school chums Phil Lynott and Brian
Downey, Thin Lizzy scored their first top ten hit in 1972
with "Whiskey In The Jar" -- More...
Review about Thin Lizzy Black Rose- a near classic. | Reviewer: dermo
------ About the album Black Rose performed by Thin Lizzy
Most people regard Black Rose as Lizzy's last great studio album and in this they are surely correct. For me though it's not perfect with " Toughest street..." and " Get out of here" especially being slight filler. And apart from the solo from Gary Moore " S&M" isn't great either. The rest though is sheer brilliance from Phil and the boys. The three singels are classics, the prophetic "Got to give it up" is brilliant Lynott in confessional mode and "With love" is classic heavy rock balladeering with a great lyric. Topping it all off is the superb title track, still epic sounding today and a guitar players dream. Being Irish myself and a lover of the Pogues, Big Country and all this celtic this song and a glass of the hard stuff is Thin Lizzy at their brilliant best.

I love Thin Lizzy,They are the greatest band EVER!
But unfortunatelly at the same time They are so underrated and I think that's very uncool!

Summer at the Jersey Shore | Reviewer: Jersey Girl
------ About the song The Boys Are Back In Town performed by Thin Lizzy
I live at the Jersey Shore, the winters here are unbearable but every May the Jersey Shore comes to life with the arrival incredibly, ripped tan bare-chested men, when all "The Boys" arrive from the city and the Northern suburbs our town is chock full of hunks for twelve weeks and then they fade into the fall. This song is my signature song that summer has arrived - Sometimes I will leave my girlfriends a voicemail singing the lyrics "The boys are back in Town again..."they all laugh hysterically. I am of Irish decent and love that Thin Lizzy is from the "Homeland". Thank you for such a feel GREAT song. I miss the boys already, but as the song says "the boys will be back in Town." Thank God!
Review of Borderline by Thin Lizzy | Reviewer: Ron Wood
------ About the song Borderline performed by Thin Lizzy
Phil Lynott and Brian Robertson have written a great song about the emotions a man is feeling as he becomes aware his relationship is disintegrating.
For a hard rock band such as Lizzy to write such a senstive song expressing vulnerabiity, shows the breadth as well of the depth of their lyrics. This song was on the Johnny The Fox album released in 1876 the ssame year as Jailbreak which featured The Boys are Back in Town with it's much more robust line 'If that chick don't want to know forget her'.
The lyrics tell of the feeling of inadequacy and failure to cope that can acompany a breakup.
There are many great lyrics '7 beers and still sober' and 'mister fill me another till I go crazy and it turn my mind around' show the futility of trying to drown your sorrows while 'The shame pf my disgrrace' powerfully displays the feelings of guilt for whatever reason. In my opinion the most poignant line 'mister tell me, what's my saving grace?' which sums up the feelings of loss, confusion and lack of self belief.
The lyrics are complimented by the music which is sad but has a liveliness which offers hope and leaves the listener more sympathtic than downcast by the protagonist's position.
Givne Lynott's lifestory this song serves as an another beautifully expressed example of the emotional fragilty and intelligence that underpinned 'The Rocker'.

------ About the song Whiskey In The Jar performed by Thin Lizzy
Musha ring dum a do dum a da.
Whack for my daddy-o,
Whack for my daddy-o
There's whiskey in the jar-o
These are the Metallica Lyrics.. the Thin Lizzy Lyrics are actually "Work for my Daddy-o".... he had such a thick accent that it wasnt sung properly by Metallica.. listen to the thin lizzy version again and you'll see what i mean. it sounds like Werk for my daddy-o but i assure you it is work...

I don't care what anyone says, this is the greatest breakup song in the world. Even if I wasn't with anyone and I'd hear this song, it would still have an emotional grip on me. Thats good song writing. Thin Lizzy was such a dynamic band, Philo's passing truly was a tragedy.

I have the impression the song is not about a real love, but more about temporary madness of some sort. a very great song indeed, very bent on psychology.
to love someone who does not exist.. that's what it's about in my opinion.

I've loved this song since I first heard it, and now, all my friends totally agree with me! Even though they repeat the same thing over and over again, it's still pretty cool!I've heard soo many rappers try to perform this song, but they sound so bad, I usually have to cover my ears!(ha ha!) I know that Thin Lizzy sounds sooo much better!

This song is amazing, and I agree that it really makes you feel like you were there with them. Phil Lynnot was a genious. Even though this song is really great, I think my favourite Thin Lizzy song is Roisin dubh (Black Rose), that song is so poetic and beautiful.
This is a great Irish traditional song. However Thin Lizzy's version is not correct. Way off actually. But all the same it is a fictitious story, and it doesn't hurt to adlib. I do like Thin Lizzy's version better.

I too listened to Thin Lizzy in my teenage years (I'm 45). I had Jailbreak on eigth track tape! I love this song, I've only heard it on the live "Life" album, which is an incredible album. Phil Lynott was such a great songwriter, he could write mesmerizing lyrics and music about so many deep topics. Long live Lizzy!!!
