In terms of sales and lasting popularity, Elton John was
the biggest pop superstar of the early '70s. Initially
marketed as a singer/songwriter, John soon revealed he
could craft Beatlesque pop and pound out rockers with equal
aplomb. He could dip into soul, disco and country, as well
as classic pop balladry and even progressive rock. His
versatility, combined with his effortless melodic skills,
dynamic charisma and flamboyant stage shows made him the
most popular recording artist of the '70s. Unlike many pop
stars, John was able to sustain his popularity, charting a
Top 40 single every single year from 1970 to 1996.
During that time, he had temporary slumps in creativity and
sales, as he fell out of favor with c More...

------ About the song Your Song performed by Elton John
This is my favourite song ever. It's pure poetry, it's a wonderful poem for the one you love. Probably "Your Song" will be played for my wedding day! Simple but deep lyrics that just sum up in a great way all of the love a person can feel. Amazing.

------ About the song Skyline Pigeon performed by Elton John
This song is his coming out song.
"But most of all please free me
From this aching metal ring
And open out this cage towards the sun"
The aching metal ring is symbolizing the hetero image he is portraying to the public. All he really wants to do is come out of the closet and be free; be himself.
Absolutely beautiful

------ About the song Grimsby performed by Elton John
I live near Grimsby, and when i heard this i laughed for about 10 minutes. Absolutely HILARIOUS. Where i am, we take the mick out of Grimsby for being "fishy". Just had to find the lyrics... so funny...
wasn't an Etta fan until I heard Sugar on the Floor in 1999. | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Sugar On The Floor performed by Elton John
Every one has that one song (or two) that speaks exactly what their heart is feeling. When I first heard 'Sugar on the Floor" I was driving through Mobile, Alabama just searching through the local blues station. I only caught the last few lines of lyric, but it was enough to bring me close to tears. I was hooked. I didn't know who sang it or even the title...just that i was something about "sugar". It's a Kiki Dee and Elton song for sure, but Etta she gives it wings. You can feel the emotion and passion. Sugar on the Floor ranks right up there with my favorite song of all, "Adore" by Prince.
I've played both of these songs once or more a week for the past 10 years.
Every time I play Sugar on the Floor for someone who never heard it before, its like they been touch by an Angel...they always want me to play over again and again.

------ About the album The Captain And The Kid performed by Elton John
This albumn is terrific. Only one song I would cut. The track "Across the river Thames" should have been included as it is very good. Good lyrics from Bernie and great melodies from Elton. Finally some rock out of the old man. The slower sonds are good this time, not sappy, except for The Bridge.

------ About the song The Measure Of A Man performed by Elton John
well song is definitely inspirational in the sense that it makes you think again and again when you seem troubled with what you achieved .it makes you believe there is more potential in you and you can do better achieve better .You have not fought that last round yet ..If you believe you can give yourself one more chance rather take one more chance to change things around you even though all dreams have shattered and you are broken and have to start again .If you believe you can take more and fight more you always have that last round waiting for you ...

I think of this song, I realize the genius of both Elton John and Bernie Taupin. I marvel at the intensity of the music which seems to beat out the path the words have taken. I am overwhelmed. Thank you for sharing the lyrics. Thank you Elton and Bernie for giving us this wonderful piece of work which will live on forever in time.

This song came out when I was 15. What a glorius time to be alive and living the thoughts Elton and Bernie put into this song. Earyl 50's now, and such an even greater appreciation of what it is saying. The thoughts are so true, of any given time in someone's life.

------ About the song Ticking performed by Elton John
Thank you very much for writing out the lyrics to this haunting song.I was watching the news this week here in the NYC area and heard a story about a guy who shot a generous bus driver. The gunman didn't have any money for a fare, and yet the driver let him on. Then the gunman asked for a transfer, they had some words, and the guy shot the bus driver, who by the way, was about to hand him the transfer. It made me think of this song for some reason and I pulled it off the shelf. The song is so true, sadly even more so in these times. Some people take it out on others, some suffer internally. Great work by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. I wish those two would get back together and write some more amazing songs.

------ About the song I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues performed by Elton John
This is one of the most underplayed of Elton's songs. The short harmonica solo is one of the best I've ever heard and is played by none other than Stevie Wonder himself. This is definitely one my absolute favorites.

------ About the album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy performed by Elton John
This album is the best effort of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Lyrically, it's a materpiece. Bernie has taken all of us poets to school. Though he was a genious throughout his entire career, these lyrics are, whether vibrant or dark, are his most visual. Who needs MTV vidoes? Just close your eyes and listen to this album from beginning to end.
Elton is also at his best on this album. The music and the words make the perfect marriage, perhaps the apex of their collaboration.
It's my favorite Elton John album, my favorite album of all time.

------ About the song Someone Saved My Life Tonight performed by Elton John
Words cannot describe this song, and the way I feel when I play it repeatedly. All I know is, that since its inception, I fell in love with it, and it has a special place in my vast music collection. As I grow older, almost 60yrs. now, this some remains in my heart, in my youth, in a very special place in my life.
Music is my sanity, and this song - Someone Save My Live Tonight, and Jimi Hendrix's entire Band of Gypsies album are classics for eternity that cannot be remade no matter who sings them........it's impossible to bring that feeling, that music, that vibe, that "humph" into what a song requires. It's just impossible!!
It's not a defining characteristic. | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About artist/band Elton John
Elton John is an incredible artist and should be admired for his perserverance and success throughout many years. The fact that he is gay is not a defining characteristic, people should be able to look past such. His music is amazing, and that's what he's here to do. So, I don't think we should judge him on anything but his music. And hey, what's there to judge?
