America was a light folk-rock act of the early '70s who had
several Top Ten hits, including the number ones "A Horse
with No Name" and "Sister Golden Hair."
Vocalists/guitarists Dewey Bunnell, Dan Peek, and Gerry
Beckley met while they were still in high school in the
late '60s; all three were sons of U.S. Air Force officers
who were stationed in the U.K. After they completed school
in 1970, they formed an acoustic folk-rock quartet called
Daze in London, which was soon pared down to the trio of
Bunnell, Peek, and Beckley. Adopting the name America, the
group landed a contract with Jeff Dexter, a promoter for
the Roundhouse concert venue. Dexter had America open for
several major artists and the group soon signed with Warner
Bros. Records. By the fall of 1970, the More...

------ About the song Man's Road performed by America
A beautiful song; very sad and hopeless... one of the few songs, telling the unspoken story of truly awful suffering. Not that there aren't enough songs about the subject, but this is not lying. In such a situation you lost hope completely and no Happy End is in sight, neither do you even consider it. Most songs say something like "It's all dark, but I have hope, I will raise and come back stronger!" but sometimes it's really not that. Life can go on (though not in all times) in such situations, but not because everything will be back to normal, but you get used to it...no hope, just tolerance...that's all!
Maybe the actual "Moral" of the song could be "This 'wound' won't heal, never! I will never come over it...still, here I am" No being happy or just being alright; only being there...
great song | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song A Horse With No Name performed by America
The song is simply saying that humanity is a desert in its lack of love for one another. The desert is a metaphor which he extends by calling the sea a desert also. At the end of the song, so that even the daft can "get it", he says "but the humans will give no love".
According to some people, every song is about drugs or Satan worship - but that simply isn't true.
It is mystical song | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song A Horse With No Name performed by America
This is mystical song in line with his other songs like "you can do magic" and "ventura highway". On the first part of the journey he ecountered the empty rhetoric of religion "fly with a buzz and sky with no clouds). The spiritual path is a desert at first then his skin begins to turn red on the second day from spiritual inspiration .... which later opened his eyes to see the beauty of the desert which turned to a river bed. A very beautiful song, hard to imagine, he composed when he was only 19. He is a very matured soul... good riddens...
sure this song is great, but America doesn't need a bunch of half-baked morons to review it for them. it's got bad grammar for a reason mr finniky (george) who can't even spell "sense." it's a "s" not a "c." bad grammar makes this song roll and gives it a good rythym. correct grammar would've messed with the tempo.
and yes, i'll agree it was a bit overplayed.

------ About the song A Horse With No Name performed by America
Hmmmm....EVERYBODY that THINKS they know what the song is about should maybe research the rel meaning.....America was formed in England by sons of US servicemen who were stationed there. Lead singer Dewey Bunnell wrote this when he was 19. He based the images in the lyrics on things he saw while visiting the US.
This was originally titled "Desert Song." (thanks, Dave - Phoenix, AZ)
This was the first single for America. They moved to the US a year later, after this became a hit.
"Horse" is slang for heroin. Some radio stations refused to play this because they thought it was about drugs. The band claims it is not.
Awesomely Simple Song | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Moon Song performed by America
This was the one song that I immediately honed in one when I first heard "Homecoming" (Yea, Im that old!!...)It was simple yet, haunting, & melodic. Uncomplicated, just a great song!! I always thought what they were saying was Cajun or something...It reminded me of being out inthe swamps somewhere"...orange funnels..snowy tunnels.."I guess i was trying to make it more complicated than it really was...
Lyrics make perfect sense | Reviewer: tjam
------ About the song A Horse With No Name performed by America
This is a song about a heroin addict going cold-turkey: Horse = heroin, Rain = drugs, River bed = vein, After Nine Days = how long it took to come clean, etc. The lyrics are actually the best part of this song when you understand their meaning.
bad lyrics | Reviewer: george
------ About the song A Horse With No Name performed by America
This song has a pretty good melody. It sounds good, IF YOU IGNORE THE LYRICS. For example,
"in the desert, you can't remember your name
'cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain..."
Bad grammer combined with a triple negative. Or is it quadruple...
and
"The ocean is a desert, with its life underground,
And a perfect disguise above.
Under the cities lies, a heart made of ground,
But the humans will give no love."
What??? Maybe under the influence of drugs this would make sence. But I doubt it!
Bottom line: Good melody, dumb lyrics.

Its a good song. I'll give it that.
But for a long time it was (And possible still is) the most overplayed song of all time. Therefore, after hearing it nine-thousand times, it does indeed gets old. Then again, its probably just me, being all old-fashioned and such.
Strange for a teenager, but whatev'.
As I said. Great song, just a bit (talk about an understatement,) overplayed (By radio stations and their ilk.)

------ About the song Satan (Demo) performed by America
I could have sworn i have owned all there albums and today as america Lyrics were going in my head i found there new album but i have looked up old songs and it seems that there were some i did not know were they released on imports if so let me know i would like to get them I hapend twice i think today about there songs
They get a lot of airplay for some of their greatest hits but this group
has written a lot of great songs that haven't got airplay - mismanaged in the 80s they have had a couple of good cd's in the 90s but with James Iha and Adam Schesinger producing the new album with people like maplewood and nada surf getting involved they sound great again
i realli do appreciate and admire the lyrics of this song. the music is wonderful as well. i love the idea behind this song. it's watever u want to make it to be about, ur own interpretation of the whole thing. this song also puts images and events that never happened in my mind and they play like a movie in my mind when i hear the song. funny, i know. but i betcha everyone has a quirky thing or two they undertake. lol.
