In the year 1991 A.D., Type O Negative arose from the decaying remains of the neo-barbaric thermonuclear warriors known as Carnivore. Together once again were bassist/vocalist Peter Steele and keyboardist Josh Silver, who had not stood on the same stage since the death of Fallout. This time, they were joined by guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Sal Abruscato. Their first release was 1991's Slow Deep & Hard, an angry cry from Peter Steele to the cold world. I don't care what anyone says, I love this album and it's quite possibly their greatest. Steele's lyrical contents included such topics as infidelity, public opinions, women [big surprise], suicide, and more. It's a great song, but this version is so much better in my opinion-- there's so much more feeling to it, I can really hear the anguish and rage opposed to the polished studio version. (Although this is a studio version too, but masquerading as live.) I feel the hardcore type breakdown around the 5-minute mark is much better for the "out of sight, out of mind" bit than the original continuing the same riff as the beginning. I got into TON when I was 15, and as an accomplished 26-year-old musician, it still holds up. I was really into the goth scene back then, so I was mostly listening to Bloody Kisses and October Rust but as I got more into punk and hardcore I've come to favor Slow, Deep, & Hard and Origin of Feces much more. Having heard almost their entire body of work, I see how they really encompass other music types and are totally unafraid to experiment with other sounds. Peter Steele was a huge influence on me in terms of my musicianship and writing lyrics: and as a more seasoned player, I can really appreciate the funny **** on this track even more now! He said that its from his past,that he really tought that Elisabeth was the one and only, but then after some years when they were toghetter, things changed, and it still hurts inside, but then again the song talks about the present and the future, because he has found a new real love,and shes better than anything else, that thay are so similar, but yet so different,and there is this part whre he sings: Para toda mi vida:, he means that he feels like he has found the one for all his life. This is one of their best upbeat, hook heavy tunes. If you've never heard any Type O this would be a good place to start. This song is a straight up rocker with a killer driving beat and beautiful melodic overlays throughout the tune. Josh Silver's keyboard work is what really makes this band stand out from the crowd, combined with Peter Steele's unique vocal style, solid drumming (Johnny rocks!) and perfect guitar work (without the excessive, self-indulgent soloing).
