France), Hollywood, California, USA rock band Concrete
Blonde formed in 1986.

The founders of the group, former Sparks’s personnel Earle

    Review about Concrete Blonde

The Meaning of "Tomorrow Wendy" | Reviewer: sk0tt
------ About the song Tomorrow, Wendy performed by Concrete Blonde

I read somewhere that it was written by Andy Prieboy (formerly of Wall of Voodoo) about a woman who had been diagnosed with AIDS. A beautifully written story if that is the case.

    (Wikipedia confirms: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Prieboy )

The money issue.. | Reviewer: Stych
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

The "money" reference has always sounded to me as though some money was lent, ie. from the singer-character to Joey; that this debt factored badly in the breakup. I've seen this happen enough, and I've been there myself. Perhaps that is why it's the first thing comes to mind on hearing it. Joey may have discreetly repaid her in his shame, and she is letting him know that she has indeed received it; or, conversely, she has become a success and no longer needs repayment, and is telling him "no worries"... While I don't necessarily disagree with the other theories, I hate to think that she's trying to buy "peace" by saying she can afford to keep him in his habits. That is far too low, far too ugly for such a beautiful and compassionate work of art!

Joey a Love Song | Reviewer: pumkin marmalade
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

We will never know what the money was referring to as we do not know the situation between the two. We do know that the singer just wants to make amends for a split up that may not have ended too well. He/She may not want to get back together with Joey, they just want to show that there is no longer any harsh feelings towards Joey.

tomorrow wendy | Reviewer: jane weir
------ About the song Tomorrow, Wendy performed by Concrete Blonde

I heard somewhere that this songs lyrics referred to an act of euthanasia - Origin early 17th century in the sense [easy death] from the greek eu 'well' + thanatos 'death'. It makes sense with the lyrics 'Only God says jump, So I set the time' thats how they know that it is tomorrow that Wendy is going to die. Beautiful gutsy song though in every sense.

He is an addict | Reviewer: Carol
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

when she says joey i got the money... he is wasted and he wants to get more drugs or what ever his habbit is. She is just trying to keep the peace and to keep him in one piece. She does not know what to do.

Still Unique | Reviewer: Terry "Cognitive Overload"

I totally agree w/ Todd .I'm sooooo glad I caught that reunion tour it was incredible,my 1rst time seein them live, and the drumtech played the whole set cuz the drummer was MIA !!!wish they'd've called on me !! there I was in the 2nd row w/my Zyldjian hat on yellin to Johnette"Iknow Every Song!!" But....Jims guitar playin is still fresh, warm, and unique as ever CHECK THEM OUT ! I'm still alittle drawn to the first album but I'm the only person I know w/all of them

    Joey | Reviewer: jess
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

i was having an affair with my joey. we were both married. He stuggled as did i about our situation. He would always stay a while and leave, then come back again when things were bad. The money part i can relate to..(lets just go away together). But reality isnt the same. Although this song is probably about joey being an alcoholic or drug addict.I suppose itcan be just about joey not knowing how to deal with his pain.

    Addiction | Reviewer: Johnny
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

The money reference can be her way of offering to pay for the vice that holds "Joey"; for any addiction,,,, as in "come back to me and we can work through this together". Unfortunately, enabling a problem does not and cannot fix it. But the love the purveys CAN fix an addiction or any problem as long as both people acknowledge, accept, and desire to get through it together.

Personal life experiences!/Love this song! | Reviewer: Mackenzie
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

well actually my ex's name is joey and im still very much in love with him. he started talking to me again and wanting to get closer to me again, and he was telling me he loved me and stuff again. but previously he had left me for his ex, so i thought it would be the same this time. well we were getting really closer to each other again, and i thought it would finally be my chance, but he got mad at me one day and found someone else and asked her out on the spot! i was and am still crushed. this happened a week ago, and i dont know what to do. i really do love him, but he has her now. this isnt the first time hes picked someone else over me, and i hope we will have a chance again. im just sooo confused on wat to do??? i realy care about him and want my chance but i dont think it will ever come!!! i wish and hope it will but i have a feeling it wont, that ill always be the girl that he messes with her head! i wish i wasnt but i guess i am. this song really hits home with me and its got his name in it and has similar struggles in it. im not angry at him anymore but im still in love with him, but i guess i should stop caring about him because its obviously never going to be my chance!!! =::[

    Unbelievable | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

I just discovered this song yesterday, and I've never discovered anything like it. I found myself MEZMORIZED not knowing what went on with it. Her voice is really great, and i didn't even hear that at first.. Not everyone could sing this song.

This is the first song I've ever wanted to comment.

    Joey, baby.

    That Voice! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

What a Voice!!!I just discovered Johnette with this song. She could sing about used cars with that voice and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Unbelievably haunting-Just breathtaking. I love this song.

I am Joey | Reviewer: Carolyn
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

Maybe it is the person singing is Joey and the singer too. I personally fight a battle with myself. That is why the singer says if you are hurting so am I. My flashbacks about my younger self scare me. So my current self scares the little girl and the adult self. The money is for my therapy as they try to reprogram me to be strong and not so afraid. I often use drugs and alchohol to mask the pain and total fear that comes. There have been too many times I have been passed out on the floor, in the grass next to the railroad tracks, in a stragners house, you get the point.

Joey | Reviewer: mike of cnbra
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

The reference to money is a measure of her desperation. She loves this guy but doesn't know how to help him or understand what it'll take to make him happy...and love her. Look at the lyric about money: She just mentions it like she's throwing it out there. She doesn't know if it'll impress him. She doesn't know what it'll take to make him love her. In the end she can only offer the love that didn't win him in the first place. Money? (what will it take Joey)?

    PLEASE EXPLAIN | Reviewer: redducky
------ About the song Joey performed by Concrete Blonde

I love the song but am a little confused...what's the MONEY for? I take it Joey's an alcoholic and she wants to keep trying at a relationship with him. Am I correct??

As good as any band ever! | Reviewer: Todd Evans
        ------ About artist/band Concrete Blonde

I LOVE Concrete Blonde. When I was in my early 20s, and wanted nothing more than to be a rock star, they were the only band close to my age who seemed to be really original, beautiful, and to ROCK. Johnette and Jim are still as great as anybody, ever. Their comeback tours were UNBELIEVABLE!

Peter left Wendy hanging | Reviewer: momule
------ About the song Tomorrow, Wendy performed by Concrete Blonde

And yes, our country has never been the same since JFK, Bobbie, and Martin were put down. What happened to the dream? Now we just force our will on others. Wendy is still alive and well....we just need to wake up and embrace her. What a wonderful song....

------ About the song Mexican Moon performed by Concrete Blonde

Mariachi's and tequila under the Mexican moon. I first heard this song on a cruise to cozumel in the early 90's. I played this song for a latin beauty and it was a night I will never forget. I am heavy metal by nature but this song took me to a different place and remains one of my favorite's of all time.
