In a career that has spanned more than two decades, John
Denver earned international acclaim as a songwriter,
performer, actor and humanitarian. Henry John Deutschendorf
Jr. began his career in the 1960s as an aspiring folk
musician in the clubs of Los Angeles. The son of a U.S. Air
Force officer, John took his performing name from the
premier Rocky Mountain city in the state where he
eventually made his home.
Denver's first major break came when he was chosen from 250
other hopefuls as lead singer for the popular Mitchell
Trio, with whom he sang for two years. His songwriting
skills were noted when Peter, Paul and Mary recorded his
"Leaving On A Jet Plane," which became their first Number
One hit.
Less than two years later, Denver was himself zooming up More...

------ About the song Grandma’s Feather Bed performed by John Denver
I loved this song as a child and remember bouncing round the living room with my sister when it played, never really knew the lyrics so it was great to fill in the gaps. I really loved hearing it again and will let my children listen to it too, hopefully another generation of John Denver fans to follow.

------ About the song Darcy Farrow performed by John Denver
i grew up on john denver, who is 100% responsible for me singing to this very day. i knew this song from childhood, on my mom's scratched lp, which i have today. back in 99 i was in a crazy caravan of artists out to the nevada desert for that year's burningman festival. the wastleand started showing the signs that told me i was in the carson valley, on a plain, crossing the truckee river, signs directing me to virginia city and to yerrington. i swear that through my tears i could see darcy riding out there in the distance. i scanned the lanscape to discern just where it was that the hillside sloped just enough to make the walker stumble into a run... and i knew i was in the very cradle of this sweet sweet song....

------ About the song Sunshine On My Shoulders performed by John Denver
SOMS is a powerful ballad that truly catches John at his best. His playing and singing is as pure on this track as at any other time in his brilliant career. It is truly a shame that this, and so many other of his songs go unheard and unplayed because he can't be inserted into a particular genre.

------ About the song Country Roads performed by John Denver
Wherever Country music will be played, this song will always be a hit. The best thing about country music is that the older it gets the best it becomes. It is just vintage; it matures with time. Mr Denver, this is an all time great. The song is just natural, and country.

I just wanted to thank you for the way you have your site set up that you can print just the lyrics instead of using all your ink on everything else you really don't need. That means a lot!!! A major thank you! I hope you'll continue the great work, so folks like me that like to pick and sing...when we need lyrics...can come to good folks like you.

I Watch You Sleeping | Reviewer: Anon
------ About the song I Watch You Sleeping performed by John Denver
I first heard this song just after my daughter's birth - she was 11 weeks premature and the words summed up exactly what I was thinking all those hours I spent sat next to her incubator watching her sleep. I still well up whenever I hear this song

------ About the song Perhaps Love performed by John Denver
I picked up a John Denver songbook in my local library recently and when I came across this beautiful song I was reminded of how much I have always loved it. I played the track a couple of times then thought how much my dad on the other side of Australia would love it. He stills painfully misses mum after 13 years, so I've decided to send him my CDs. The words are powerful and moving. John must have been a wonderful man.
After my 30 year marriage ended in 2000, it was "Sweet Surrender" which helped me through.
I was moved by this song the first time I heard it on the Spirit album. For me, its however we believe are special, we really all are one. The song also includes brother to brother (and sister implied) and concludes with a poweful a strong, vital statement that our spirituality is univeral, regardless of faith we practice. We are one. We all walk a road to discovery, and it's better if need not walk alone. It's an amazing song.
John Denver of the Best Ever | Reviewer: Michael Bowen
------ About the album It's About Time performed by John Denver
This album showcases John's spirituality...his love of mankind and nature...and why he thought best that we should co-exist in harmony...We all had "that dream about dying"...in one form or another. One of my favourites forever...I miss him so much...but his music warms me in my sorrow! Love to all!

I listened to this song as a child with my uncle.
I am 45 and this song can still touch my heart and bring a tear to my eye.

------ About the song Summer performed by John Denver
This is one of the most powerful and beautiful songs penned by John Denver. The version on 'An Evening With John Denver' (live album) is perhaps the best I've heard.
Peace John, your legacy lives on in your music...

------ About the song Matthew performed by John Denver
Until now I had not realised that this song was written by John Denver's uncle Dean. It is really one of the most poignant of all JD's songs. For anyone with their roots in farming and the soil, this sad but triumphant ballad strikes to the very heart. I have met people like Uncle Matthew in communities all over the world - people whose religious outlook on life, and enjoyment of simple pleasures, form the bedrock of our civilisation. Anyone who thinks they are more important than the next man, sophisticated, above the crowd, then sing this song and remember that no prince, king or president can rise above the lowliest amongst us when faced with great adversity. A beautiful simple ballad and one of the best amongst many fine songs produced by JD

------ About the song Darcy Farrow performed by John Denver
This is one of my favorite songs. After all of these years of hearing it, I decided to look up the lyrics and found that I was wrong about a number of the words. John Denver sang this song clearly but, the words can be misunderstood. Good bye John, too bad I won't see you in Heaven.

------ About artist/band John Denver
John Denver is my all time favorite artist. Not only was he talented as a singer/songwriter/guitarist, he was such a healthy influence on all of humanity. He cared deeply about the environment, he helped people and his music saved people. I've read so much about him and I think "Wow, he and I would have gotten along famously". I listen to his music every day, it eases my mind and my heart. So tragically he was called home at 53...but his music and his spirit will always be here.
Grandma's Feather Bed | Reviewer: Tim
------ About the song Grandma’s Feather Bed performed by John Denver
I grew up with this "bouncy" song as a kid, loving especially the whispered part about the gal down the road. Not until I read the lyrics, though, did I understand all the words to the chorus, which is good since I would not have known what a bolt or tick was when it came to making a feather bed. As an adult the song represents more than just a childhood memory, however. John Denver's music became immortalized in my mind and heart the day he died in that plane crash. Ever since then, the songs he sang - always with a smile, doing what he loved to do most - became songs that stood for the best in love, and romance, family and friendship. He shared his life with us, his fans for a very brief time, but left behind a legacy that most men never achive in two lifetimes. I won't be surpised, if when we get to heaven, we will see John Denver playing music while sitting in the middle of a great big feather bed.
