But by 1980 the sometimes mean-spirited backlash against disco (I never really understood why the public turned on disco with the "disco sucks" chants being heard at every pep rally at my high school) was at full steam and this album went unnoticed by me and apparently alot of other people. It was very "uncool" to like the Bee Gees at that time so I hadn't heard any of the songs on this album until recently. I read the reviews and listened to the 30 second clips on itunes and was intrigued by what I read and heard. After downloading the entire album the first thing that ran through my mind was "how in the world did none of these songs get airplay?" I guess that shows just how strong the anti-disco movement was. The title track "Living Eyes" gave me chills (and still does to some degree) when I heard it the first time. Wildflower is one of those songs that gets better every time you hear it. Paradise is also top-notch. The weakest song is ironically the only song to crack the top 40 in the U.S. I listened to it once and that was enough. That one bad apple shouldn't discourage anyone from taking a tasty bite of this quality collection of songs from one of the greatest bands of all time. A method not all mad | Reviewer: Jim ------ About the song Method To My Madness performed by The Bee Gees One of the finer Bee Gee songs, "Method To My Madness" offers up Robin Gibb's deep, rich vibratos to the emotionally charged lyrics the brothers are so well known for. The right harmonies strategically placed impact this song with the Bee Gees trademark. Robin, at last, shows some vocal vulnerability by stretching his capabilities to the max exposing vocal cracks and reaching for notes so high and forceful he barely hits them. This only makes listening to the song that much more enjoyable. He is obviously giving all he's got in this studio track and there is no mix covering up his flaws which only add to the highly emotional impact of this song. Comparing his life (or parts of it, anyway) to a "woman in the rain" would make the hardest man feel compassion and empathy to a rich and famous guy we "normal" people typically believe is above all that. Admitting he is only human trying to get through life's game, Robin calls for identification from other men and a joining with them in his questions of life. For what kind of man can see a woman in the rain and not feel something? And his answer? He closes his eyes and knows himself. By closing his eyes he sees himself as part of life and answer to his own questions; solution to his own problems. 'Nuff said. What would a Bee Gees song be without harmonies? Someone else's song, I suppose. The harmonies in "Method To My Madness" are placed just at the points where they grab and shake and ask you "Do you get this? Do you see what's going on here?" It's the Brother's Gibb genius at work again here that shows up in so many of their song's. It's what they're known for. And they work here like...well, take a listen.
