In the annals of rock 'n' roll history, only a handful of
bands are recognized as among the greatest of all time.
Everyone knows the short list, and invariably, The Who is
on it.
Since joining together in 1963, The Who have consistently
created engaging and challenging music, much of it defying
easy categorization. That the band is together today,
thirty years after the release of their landmark 1970
concert album, "Live At Leeds", exciting new and old fans
alike, is a testament to their power and endurance.
Today, The Who remain as vital as ever, performing together
at a series of charity concerts in the U.S. in the fall of
1999, and about to embark on a North American tour in 2000.
For long-time Who fans, the music of the band seems to
improve over time. Fo More...

------ About the song Teenage Wasteland performed by The Who
The song by the group "The Who" is listed as
"Baba O'Riley in the television's list of credentials. The song is really an angry outcry at the loss of young lives fighting wars. The average age of soldiers in the Vietnam War (when this song was originally sung) were under the age 0f 20.

------ About the song Behind Blue Eyes performed by The Who
This song when I hear it is a story about someone guy or girl who feels misunderstood. So because of that are strugling with feelings of extreme hostilty and other emotions. But they know they can't let their emotions show because they for not only are afraid for what might happen to others but to themself. So they hide behind a mask, and only their blue eyes is the part of the mask that holds them to gether. That holds their emotions from overwhelming them.
But all in all this song is a very good moveing song.

lol at the guy comparing it to animal farm.... perhaps you should take more time to listen to the music than try to break it down into something that its just not..... You realise that you can compare anything with anything else if you think about it long enough
enjoy the bloody music folk an give the analytical shit a rest

------ About the song Heaven and Hell performed by The Who
I had heard the orginal from "Who's Missing" then on the extended "Live At Leeds". But upon listing again to the original again after many reps of LAL, I was absolutely f**** blown away to realize Keith's drums nail the opening by rote. I saw JE with an incarnation of his own band when the sound kept going out in a small Cleveland club because the sound was probably as loud as the Who kept it. Yeah, they're still putting them down in R&R Heaven!

------ About the song New Song performed by The Who
Pete is talking about rehashing old ideas, about relevance now...so self effacing-but this song is a reaction to punk, and changing of the (musical) guards...the first wave punks embraced him at the same time the aesthetic was supossedly trying to be new, reacting against his generation, like he did to the generation before him...it's amazing to me that someone who had written such amazing songs, and done so much still considered his 'relevancy'-he took it so serious, which to me means he's always relevant in and of that itself! The Who lives forever!

Human nature will out. Reminds me most of the book Animal Farm. The revolution was warranted, the revolutionaries were true believers, and after the tyrants were run off...the new rulers turned out to be pigs. To quote another song of the old days, "The beat goes on." The lyricist says that the only answer is to cultivate your own little garden as best you can. We will get fooled again and again. Lah-dee-dah-dee-dee, la-dee-dah-dee-dah....

------ About the song Won't Get Fooled Again performed by The Who
"This song is about what happens in all "revolutions." It's about idiots who think utopia is somehow an option.

I disagree with that. Russia needed a revolution because there was a monarquic goverment and Cuba also needed a revolution because it was invaded by the USA

------ About the song Water performed by The Who
well, i wouldn't say "ridiculously inaccurate"... i just found out from some interviews that Roger didn't really use drugs like the rest of them did, as he used to flush the band's drugs down the toilet. and maybe he was, well, a big fan of drinking water, too.
it's also largely a rhythm and blues number, Roger's forte', with a little angry bluegrass through in; definitely a working-man's song,
which was Roger all over.
no, i'd say the lyrics were completely appropriate to Roger.

------ About the song My Wife performed by The Who
I'm born in the 60's, I know this song from its release and always loved it. But as I'm french and my english was too poor at the time, I just happen to understand the lyrics 5 minutes ago reading them on this site! They are so funny and acurate and well crafted. My daughter loves this LP too, long lives the Who !

------ About the song I Can See For Miles performed by The Who
The WHO SELL OUT ranks as one of the all time double albums, a work of sheer genius. But, you won't find the WHO performing I Can See For Miles live, ever. The WHO crafted this incredible (for 1967) album, and released I Can See For Miles as the hit that would establish them as a top British power. Unfortunately the album only caught on in a cult type manner, amongst a small elite number of fans, and Miles was a moderate hit, but did not come anywhere close to # 1 ranking in the UK. Pete Townsend was really miffed over this and threw his copy of the album into his stereo turntable.
Townsend admitted as much for the cover art and metadata for the double album CD (Who Sell Out was released as a single vinyl album in the US originally). It was not until years later, and Tommy, that the Who lived up to their monetary and artistic potential, according to US fans.

------ About the song I Can See For Miles performed by The Who
This is one of the Who's greatest songs ever. It was supposed to be THE big hit from THE WHO SELL OUT, one of their very best, but overlooked, albums. They are still disappointed by this songs lack of success, and to this day they refuse to play it live.

------ About the song Baba O'Riley performed by The Who
I recently bought the album Who's Next and Baba O'Riley is the first track. I heard this track a short while ago as the theme music to CSI New York and had to get it. I got it on Amazon for the grand some of £3.68 including P&P. Brilliant. I now have it as my cell phone ring tone, on my computer, and my MP3.
It should only be heard with the volume set to max in my opinion. There's a short piece in it where it's just the electric guitar playing and it makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck! This trcak is,in my opinion one of the greatest examples of stadium rock ever.

------ About the song Baba O'Riley performed by The Who
Erin, the young population as a whole has been misled on the meaning of that word. They don't mean it as to be homophobic, they don't even know the meaning of the word. They only use it as a term of disgust for people because that is what they have been led to believe it is.I have firsthand experience on that, as I am only 14 myself. I hope you understand.

------ About the song Baba O'Riley performed by The Who
Where were you in '72. I was inhigh school and all we did was listen to "Who's next" We were Irish Catholic kids so Baba O'Reilly was our tribal anthem. I remember this song was played right before we went out to play for the football Championship for the state of Arizona
Turned out to be an unwise choice because "out there on the field, we fought for our meal" and our opponent "ate our lunch" They most definitely "put out our fire" and turned our offense into a "Teenage Wasteland" We were shut out and held to four first downs. But after the game "Sally took my hand, and we traveled south crossland" if ya know what I mean. Look at the time. I guess the "Exodus is near" TTFN

------ About the song Pictures of Lily performed by The Who
One of the many cleverly funny lyrics by Pete - this one is about the relief of masturbation to help 'solve my childhood problems', only to be replaced by another problem - falling in love with Lily who's been 'dead since 1929'. Musically it's one little gem too, with great contributions by John (not only bass, but also French horn!) and Keith (the signature drumming style clearly begins to be heard here)
Daltrey's triumph | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song The Punk and the Godfather performed by The Who
This song is one of the highlights of Quadrophenia - perhaps THE highlight. And that is certainly due to the clever lyrics, that seem to anticipate the punk movement several years before it materialized (how the hell did Pete know this??!) and at the same time make a reference to My generation.
It's also because of the great power guitar riff that is the musical theme of the song, but most of all it's because of the chorus (I'm the guy in the sky), where Roger Daltrey exceeds himself and literally reaches new heights. For me, the scream in Wont get fooled again, and the 'stutter' here are the two most memorable examples of Roger's unique contribution to the sound of the Who
