Blige I relate to this song in 2 very big ways. 1. I'm a reforming verbally abusive person. This song always makes me think of my wife (who is still with me after nearly 7 years of putting up with me) and all the tears and hurt I put her through. I could well imagine her singing this song. Thankfully I am doing much better now and stopping the abuse. 2. I myself grew up in an abusive household where my development was basically overlooked by my parents for a variety of reasons. This in turn made me a very bitter person and I missed out on so much of life until I moved out of my home. I had a terrible high school experience, was very anti-social, didn't date until I was 20, and made a lot of stupid choices. I regret all of it. I have so much hurt and bitterness over years I can never have back.
