They're at it again! Chester, Mike and the rest of Linkin Park released another phenomenal album titled Meteora. Sophomore albums are famously tricky affairs. Musicians have their entire lives to pen their debut album, the theory goes, and a relatively short time to follow it up. But what if the debut in question is the biggest selling album in recent memory? And what if the music industry has Hollywood-like expectations for another instant blockbuster? That was the scenario Linkin Park faced when they entered the studio to record Meteora, the follow-up to their multi-platinum debut Hybrid Theory. To those outside the band, the pressure to follow up that success might have seemed insurmountable. But within Linkin Park, vocalists Chester Bennington and Mike Shinod More... No one will ever truely know what a music writer is talking about unless the writer themself specifies. This song could mean anything anyone hears, but most likely it's about remorse for something the individual feels and needs to move on from before it defines and corrupts their life. I am a combat veteran (now in college)that has remorse about my past and this song rings in my ears as if I wrote it myself. I believe that GREAT musicians/song writers can create songs that anyone can relate to and believe has a signifigant meaning to that person. I've never been a pimp, smashed a hotel room, ridden a bull, or done cocaine so I'd rather listen to songs that evoke MY emotion and "What I've Done"! But the problem is that I'm just a french teenager (16 tomorrow :D), and not alot of people around me could understand the real point of this song.. Then I figured it was a man who didn't want the negitive stuff remembered, just positive. Then earlier this month my dad passed away. And this song took on a whole new meaning. I was never really close too my father. My mom died when I was a toddler and in a way the best of him died with her. He married this horrible woman and if I tried to tell him all of the things she did, I was punished for lying. After he got sick, and seen how she was, he did apoligize for taking her side all the time, but we never were close. After he passed away and I heard the song it just seemed to fit into everything that was happening. And in a way it helped the healing process. The video helps to explain this, from showing clips of three different stories, which help to explain this. In the song, they're literally trying to break that habit of emptiness an anger. I'm not some kid that decided to look up the lyrics and write some review, based on what I thought. I've felt that way before, like you're hopeless and empty. No other song I've heard before helps personify that feeling. This is what the meaning that I get from linkin park: "In this farewell There's no blood There's no alibi Cause I've drawn regret From the truth Of a thousand lies" What I feel like Chester is saying that he is done with lying to get ahead and causing pain for others. The character [I will refrence him as Chester] is done with lying all the time, done with seeing people suffer when he lies but makes others happy. This is where he decides to right his wrongs. "So let mercy come And wash away" This is like wishing himself good luck for apologizing to whoever and making things right again. "What I've done I'll face myself To cross out what I've become Erase myself And let go of what I've done" I feel that this is saying what the first verse is saying. What Ive done is refering to all the wrongs he did. Face myself, face all of his actions and get rid of his new gilded self. Letting go is simply, letting go of all the pain and misery. "Put to rest What you thought of me While I clean this slate With the hands Of uncertainty" What you thought of me. He is refering to whoever he wasnt being himself infront of just to impress them or satisfy them. This caused lies and deception among ones he left behind, and he realized the pains. How he does it, he doesnt know, but he knows its going to hurt. "I'll start again And whatever pain may come Today this ends I'm forgiving what I've done" Starting again is starting again with his relationship with others. He is done with all the lies, the hypocracy, the deception, everything. So hopefuly you see that this isnt a song about God. Yeah Im a believer, but I dont feel like flaming others bashing religon right now. As far as linkin park goes, *cough* this was an expiremental album. If you purchased and read it, the producer suggested that they tried something new for this album. Well, thats what we got. This is their softer album, and from what Im hearing from their new album, there is going to be a mixture of songs that are similar to meteora and hybrid theory's songs, and songs like "What Ive Done", "Bleed it out", "No More Sorrow", "Given Up", and hopefully more guitar solos as heard from "In Pieces". Their next album should be impressive if what I am saying is true, which probaly is. Wheres the kid who said conformist? Under Attack is a very much.. Real album, although it was never released, alot of artists have what are called "B-Sides" and the whole Under Attack album is exactly that. Featuring some unreleased songs, and remixed relased songs such as Under Attack, which is a remake of the song Crawling. Or possibly the original version, before it was revamped and put on Hybrid Theory. LINKIN PARK FUCK YEAH | Reviewer: Anonymous ------ About the album Hybrid Theory performed by Linkin Park A lot of people seem to be down on LP, Im' not sure why. I assume it's just because LP follows somewhat in the vein of Limp Bizkit (which people also seem to hate). This doesn't change the fact, however, that LP is the only rock band to produce a mashup album (official, nonetheless) with such a talented artist as Jay-Z. That alone speaks volumes of their skill. LP may not be for everybody, but it's certainly enjoyable. And I can't count the times their music has helped me in my bad times. And, uh... Fort Minor FTMFW.
