"If one begins with the big questions of 'Who am I?' and
'Why am I here?', the understanding of the roads back in
history seem as important as the ones forward, whether or
not it pertains to the individual or collective, to the
subject of love or the control of information."

In The Book Of Secrets, Loreena McKennitt's seventh release

Mask And Mirror, the Canadian artist continues a process of
cultural excavation of the pan-Celtic heritage, serving as
a creative springboard and a passport to eras past.

Breathing life into long-forgotten lyrics, McKennitt first
made her name as a folk singer, singing traditional folk
ballads like "She Moved Through The Fair" with freshness
and immediacy. Over the course of More...

a beautiful love song, but the ending is so tragic! i cry every time i read it or hear it...i guess the ending is essential though as it demonstrates how much they loved each other. i don't think it was a waste to have the man die in the end, as who would want to live knowing that their lover had died for them...i would probably kill myself just to be with them. wow what a sacrifice...WHAT A SONG!
it's pure brilliance and her voice is so clear and haunting. I LOVE IT!

------ About the song The Mummers' Dance performed by Loreena McKennitt

I love this song! I noticed many reviewers mentioned the movie "The Mists of Avalon" but I wonder if you have read the book..? The book is simply amazing! I guarantee that if you love this song you will truly love the book The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

    Beautiful | Reviewer: Al Perrin
------ About the song The Bonny Swans performed by Loreena McKennitt

Reminds me a great deal of the Medievel style of musical Greek tragedy like "Polly Von," song by Peter Paul & Mary back in the sixties. But here, Ms. McKennitt masterfully welds this folk music style of storytelling with a modern steel string guitar format. A hauntingly beautiful rendition, that along with the sad ancient words touches the heart deeply.

------ About the song The Mystic's Dream performed by Loreena McKennitt

All the European myths/legends/fables, take it from the coming of Anglo-Saxons, Celtic prides or the development of Medieval and Renaissance eras are garnished into this one beautiful song, nay, a piece of art I may say. It has enchanted me and I feel like visiting a festival around the ancient stone-henge whenever I listen to it. The inclusion of Arabic instruments only makes it better, like a merger of different traditions from around the world in an ancient trade route located in a dark-age Celtic town. A masterpiece indeed !

A Muse in Disguise... | Reviewer: Farooq Ahmad
        ------ About artist/band Loreena McKennitt

That is what she is, she came from the mysteries of ancient times, from folklores, the fables of the faery folk, from the groups of dryads who used to wander the Celtic forests...she is a banshee of healing, with her voice and words you can get rejuvenated... I can bet she learned this from the real Merlin of the Celts, this wizardry of emotions and chanting that heals a warrior's heart. An art handed down right from the forest Elfs. She is an artist placed into our time by the ancient creatures who want their existance to be known... Listen to her music, and you might find 'em someday!

Absolutely, this is a true work of enlightened enchantment. A wonderful mix of instruments, lyrics and Loreena's voice makes this song a beacon for women seeking the true goddess. I am so there in the mists of Avalon when I hear this song.......

------ About the song Bonny Portmore performed by Loreena McKennitt

A friend of mine once said of Lorenna McKinnit, "When she sings it sounds as if she is singing in an etherial cathedral." I tend to agree. The lament for the lose of such history and beauty gives one pause filled with long thoughts. A beautiful song beautifully rendered.

This is such a beautiful song... | Reviewer: Tim L.
------ About the song Caravanserai performed by Loreena McKennitt

I fell in love with Loreena McKennitt a couple of years ago when her song "The Mummer's Dance" came on the radio. I recognized the song, but hadn't heard it in several years. At the time I had no idea who sang it. Since then, I've discovered Loreena McKennitt can take any poem and turn it into heavenly music. She has the most wonderful voice I've ever heard and I hope when I go to Heaven, she'll be there playing her harp and singing, 'cause she has the voice of an angel. Caravanserai is my current favorite song from her although Beneath a Phrygian Sky is moving up on my list. Caravanserai is a middle-eastern word meaning inn, go figure. Anyway, listen to the song it is a work of poetic genius and Loreena's vocals are so crisp and pure...the chorus is so beautifully sung.

A Ghostly Love Story | Reviewer: MysticalCeta
------ About the song The Highwayman performed by Loreena McKennitt

The first time I heard this and listened to the words, it gave me chills (in a good way). I love the concept of the ghostly rider still coming to the inn to visit his love.

I searched the poem out after hearing the song, and it filled in the gaps in the story line.

A marvelous piece of work by a marvelous artist!

A Most Beautiful Song... | Reviewer: Andrea
------ About the song The Mummers' Dance performed by Loreena McKennitt

Gorgeous song! It reminds me of the Devine femimine...

A group of woman dancing in a circle, around other woman dancing the opposite direction during the summer soltice with the Oak God in the center --- representing the dying god who rises again surrounded by the Love of the Goddess. (It's sort of a christ-like "god".

It always makes me weep at the line ::
"A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of Our Lord's hand"

... I think of the loneliness of the Goddess, and I cry.
