“My brother Dave taught me a chord and the first time I
held down a chord I didn’t muffle it, well, I just sat
there with my ear on the wood even after the sound died
feeling the vibrations. From there, it was me sitting there
alone in a room singing to a wall."
And what about his very first audience?
“Well, the wall seemed to like it…” Prine says now with a
twinkle in his eye and his characteristic understatement.

Review about John Prine a watershed album | Reviewer: Powerglide
------ About the album Fair and Square performed by John Prine
The lyrics from 'Some humans ain't human' are obvious, an'd the bite is deep, but the lovliness of 'Glory of true love' and 'The moon is down' have me playing this album over and over. 'She is my everything' tells a beautiful story too.
John Prine is, and always will be, the carrier of the torch for country folk music in the "baby boomer" generation. He is a unique wordsmith and path blazer for countless writers... such as Steve Earle and Todd Snider...and will always leave his imprint on the American music scene. Prine has made the best out of three chords since Chuck Berry's "hey days" in the 1950's. *snicker*
An old girlfriend named Patty introduced me to Prine's music and said it had saved her life...we went to our local outdoor Friday night concert in Chattanooga and listened to "The Happy Enchilada!"
Later i was to both keep his cats Dixie and Chelsea Lynn with their antique wicker cat carrier and to have him save my life. He autographed "Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings" when i was full of both. I got to enjoy coffee with Brother Bill at a church and later enjoy their tuneful togetherness at the Tivoli and thereby got to be blessed by Pat McLaughlin.
If you're just getting sober though and haven't been inoculated with Sam Stone, don't start up that tune now. Prine sings the theme songs of hell and the anthems of heaven and the mutterings of paths passing both. What a blessing! If you know how to cry and you know how to laugh and you're not scared of either, you jump right in there and travel a trip to where your soul sings and rhythms ring while you get your dirt out of Boss's hole.

------ About the song She Is My Everything performed by John Prine
This is just a perfect song to play for the right girl. That girl would have to really understand the beat and lyrics (even though it strays a bit) it's still one of the best to play for one girl, one audience of one, I just need the right one to play it for :( Not wasting this one.

------ About the song Sam Stone performed by John Prine
Hi, I just listened to the Swamp Dogg review - I have to say it absolutely doesn't do John Prine's song any justice. There are some songs that simply should not be redone and this is definitely one of them - it loses something when Swamp Dogg does it, this song isn't a jazzy song - it's a sad song, about a man that goes to fight for his country, sees things, does things, experiences things that a lot of us know absolutely nothing about, comes back addicted to a horrible habit, and his child watches as dad self-destructs because of it, like so many other families witnessed their loves ones destruction from drugs, alcohol, etc. Swamp Dogg needs to step down from this one.

------ About the song Sam Stone performed by John Prine
I was raised on John Prine due to the fact that he was my fathers favorite artist, next to the Rolling Stones of course. Of all the Songs I have heard of Mr.Prine made, Sam Stone is number one on my top three (below are saddle in the rain and sweet revenge). If you are a fan of John Prine or simply a fan of music in general I advive you to listen to this song first, with will inevitably get you hooked early and his talent will not relase you from its grasp.

Get ready to smile! Can you handle some truth? Only if you think you can take it..
This is the greatest song that I've ever heard. I plan to learn to play it then sing it to the most wonderful girl in the world! This song was written for you, Amy.

------ About the song Everybody performed by John Prine
I've searched long and hard for this song, stumping even Terri Hemmert from WXRT. Should have guessed it came from either Steve Goodwin or John (ex-mailman in Chicago suburbs) Prine. Prine still speaks for man as well as he did long ago. Short, happy tune with cathcy lyrics - suitable for any modern praise team.
This song, great in its time, is due for a revival - 'cause flag decals pop up every time the body count rises. Just like those f***ing yellow ribbons, your flag decal don't mean dick.
