Review about Paul Simon Totally Special | Reviewer: smiles
------ About the song Father and Daughter performed by Paul Simon
Paul Simon thank you for writing such a heart felt song. It is so beautiful and reminded me of the many ways that a father loves a child.
Most of all it made me think about my Heavenly Father though, and how God is so awesome, mighty, kind, and just. And yes, God does not always intervene in our lives the way we would want but God does what is best. My heart is at peace when I think of that because I know that God can work things together for my good even when everything seems to be going so wrong. I just have to trust him and obey. Listening to the song especially this part -
I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
I just thought wow sometimes I miss it. Yet...that does not change that God demonstrated His love for me by sending His son, Jesus to die for my sins and not only me but anyone who will believe in Him. And then I read this...
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you
Thank you again Mr. Simon for writing this song.
And thank you Lord for placing me in the loving care and arms of my earth bound dad.
My Beloved Daddy | Reviewer: Aimee
------ About the song Father and Daughter performed by Paul Simon
My beloved Daddy died from cancer just over a week ago on 23/10/09, two hours before his 57th birthday. I miss him terribly, he was my best friend and we were so close. I have been blessed to have such a wonderful Dad and was proud to have him give me away at my wedding nearly two years ago now. He ended his wonderful speach with 'in the words of Paul Simon, There could never be a father who loved his daughter more than I love you' and I have never forgotten it. This song has very special meaning for me and he will be laid to rest tomorrow with a copy of the words.
I love you Dad. Xx
About You Can Call Me Al | Reviewer: Param
------ About the song You Can Call Me Al performed by Paul Simon
The song, like many of the songs in Graceland, are about how Paul Simon came out of a turbulent and tumultuous period of his life. He's lost his love, his career isn't going as great as he wants, and he's not sure how he's going to end up.
In the midst of all of this, he takes a trip to Africa, a land that is completely out of his safety zone. He hears sounds, the sounds of cattle in the market place, scatterlings and orphanages, he sees angels in the architecture, he sees both the pain and the beauty of life on a completely different scale from what he'd ever understood, and he says, "Amen," and "Hallelujah."
My ex and I are still friends. When he told me how horrible his current relationship was going, I sent him a text with the lyrics, a few at a time. This is one of those songs that will never stop addressing one of the oldest ailments of the heart...

For years on end I've liked this song and thought I would eventually hop on the bus and drop off the key someday, but after 20 years and two kids, he took the bus and the girl in the song isn't me but someone else!

To the idiots babbling about government mind control: Get over it. You are yourself controlled by your obsessive conspiracy theories.
To the people trying to find meaning in the song: Nobody can tell you the meaning. You must interpret it yourself.

------ About the song Father and Daughter performed by Paul Simon
I always loved paul simon and discovered this song for all the wrong reasons.
My sister had the misfotune of losing her son when he was 11 years of age in a very tragic accident, he had just joined the school band and had been learning El conoro Pasa so I was listening to the essential album a lot, so we played El condoro pasa at his funeral. Simply the most heartbreaking day of all our families lives. He was the only Nephew/Grnadchild in the family at that point.
Over 14 months ago my beautiful girlfriend gave birth to our daughter and currently the only niece/grandchild in the house, as you can imagine she has become a vital ray of light for the entire family and especially my sister who just adores her. I rememered this song recently as how best to describe how I feel about this gorgeous little creature that I will always have the pleasure of saying is my own flesh and blood. Plus of course what she doesnt know now but will is how she has helped a broken family pick back up the pieces.
Brings a good tear to my eye.

Lyrics are a tad better than the song itself | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song You Can Call Me Al performed by Paul Simon
Someone here said the lyrics don't make sense. I believe the text speaks for itself. Clearly these are somewhat lost people in a life crisis situation. However, MY span of attention is also short so I don't feel like explaining or analyzing right now... Of couse, Paul Simon's explanation would be more in-depth.
This is one of Paul Simon’s best songs. Very minimal in form and a hint of water colour painting with splashes of colours bleeding into one another. It’s a nostalgic reflection on the highs and lows of falling in and out of love. There is a hurried marriage, the shared closeness during a harsh winter following. Eventually, reality sets in and all end in tears. There is so much condensed into this little masterpiece and the construction of the melody is truly brilliant. There is a superb interpretations of it by jazz giants Bill Evans and Toots Thielemans on their album “Affinity”.
About the spinning angels.. | Reviewer: Mattias
------ About the song You Can Call Me Al performed by Paul Simon
I think the angels actually ARE details in the architecture, and it's not they that are spinning, but the man. He doesn't recognize his surroundings or the language. His perception is spinning due to drugs, fatigue or confusion.
Most of the lyrics is pretty straight-forward with three men (or possibly just one man) going through a life crisis. His body is turning softer, wife left him, he's a joke, lost, without direction.
RE: What about Garfunkel? | Reviewer: Clandestine
------ About the song The Sound of Silence performed by Paul Simon
Paul Simon wrote it, as well as most of the Simon & Garfunkel songs, so Garfunkel shouldn't receive credit for the lyrics. That is not to say that Garfunkel's voice isn't absolutely brilliant and pure.
the meaning of kodachrome | Reviewer: dav
------ About the song Kodachrome performed by Paul Simon
Paul Simon was shopping for a new camera and the sales associate in the camera store told him if he wrote a song about a name brand camera that he'd probably get a free one. Then the idea hit him, and he wrote the song about a Nikon camera and then he figured he'd include Kodachrome film, that way he'd get free film for life.

------ About the song The Sound of Silence performed by Paul Simon
There are some comments from younger listeners wishing for a detailed explanation of this song.
My advice is just to say that songs mean whatever you personally make of them. Some songs do not make sense to us until we go through some experience in life.
The greatest songs will grow on you and take on new meanings as you grow and experience life. So just enjoy the songs, and let certain lines jump out and grab you when you're ready.

------ About the song You Can Call Me Al performed by Paul Simon
The drugs have entered my brain cells, sadly. They have left again. I saw the 'angels in the architecture'. It was different for me. I identify it with the Simon lyric from the spinning part. If there are angels, they have a human figure, and there is more than one. The whole figure spinning is the key to the image. It is the stations of Hell, forever posted on a spit, turning. Face, side of head, back of head, face; it's scary.
