"Back then, much to my embarrassment, Don would play the
flute walking down the street, and I used to wish my
parents would be just like normal folks. Now, of course,
I'm eternally grateful for the experiences we had."
Neneh Cherry was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1964. She

------ About the song 7 seconds performed by Neneh Cherry
i loved this song from the very first time i heard it though i couldn't speak any english nor french then. After a while i came across with the translation that helped me to understend roughly the meaning. Now that i can speak some english and i understand how the whole thing works about lenguages i think that a translation isn't always enough. you also need an explanation of what some senteces might mean when the translation doesn't seem to make the right sence. Especially when we're talking about a piece of art and we also need to get what the artist is traying to communicate. don't you think? anyway, right now i'm listening to this song, drinking a nice glass of New Zealand wine and wondering if what i've just writen makes any sence. does it?

To the person before me, nicely done, your translation is way better and accurate than the one written in the lyrics. Congrats!
I love the song, I have for the longest time.

------ About the song 7 seconds performed by Neneh Cherry
A perfect translation would be one done by the songwriter. I don't know how correct are your song lyrics... but here might be a better direct (if imperfect) translation than the literal (word-by-word without context) translation you have from French: (note the "to" and "from" in the first line de changer (from changing) vs. a changer (to or toward changing.) Youssou's words are quite far reaching in concept.
"-J'assume les raisons qui nous poussent de changer tout,
I assume (take upon myself) the reasons which keep us from changing everything,
-J'aimerais qu'on oublie leur couleur pour qu'ils esperent
I would like (it) if one forgets the (skin) color which they hope to have,
-Beaucoup de sentiments de races qui font qu'ils desesperent
Many feelings of races which make them hopeless.
-Je veux les deux mains ouvertes,
I want the two hands open
-Des amis pour parler de leur peine, de leur joie
of friends (in order) to talk about their pain, about their joy
-Pour qu'ils leur filent des infos qui ne divisent pas
so they can draw out info which does not divide them.
-Changez!
change!"

Nice translation. The mother tongue youssou is singing in is wolof. It's the language spoke in senegal, gambia and mauritania
La peine | Reviewer: Pitcheuse
------ About the song 7 seconds performed by Neneh Cherry
'Peine' doesn't necessarily mean 'life penalty'.
It also means 'sorrow' and 'sadness'.

French - English
Changer = To change
Changez = Change
Same pronunciation but different meanings in french.
Still a perfect job. Thx.
