Steven Patrick Morrissey was born 1958 in Manchester,
Northern England. In the early 1970's, Morrissey was in a
band called Wild Ram. They later changed the name to Not
Sensibles and then again, to Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds.
At that time they had Eddie Garrity doing vocals and Vini
Reilley on guitar (he later joined Durutti Column). In
1977, Garrity and Reilley left the band and Morrissey took
over the microphone. The band shortened the name to The
Nosebleeds and Pete Crooks (bass), Toby (drums) and Billy
Duffy (guitar) joined (Duffy later became a member of the
Cult). The band dissolved in 1978.
In 1982 Morrissey was introduced to a guitarist named John
Mahr. At that time Mahr worked in a clothes shop and he was

------ About the song The National Front Disco performed by Morrissey
Moz? Sensitive, talented and gay Moz? Proud to be British, even proud to be white? Can't be. Just as Eric Clapton never said Enoch Powell was right. Just as Dali never supported Franco. Because we all 'know' that artists, the good ones anyway, are free of nationalist sentiment and have nothing but disdain for Western Civilization. Given the chance they would gang rape Western Civilization in the parking lot of Richmond High School after a homecoming dance.
Now that the NF has become the BNP and has two MEPs we also 'know' Moz, and other sensitive, talented and gay artists couldn't possibly approve. And we 'know' Moz couldn't possibly currently live in Italy with that horrid right wing, anti-immigration government in power.
We 'know' a lot, don't we? We know Sweet FA in fact.
Anti-Racist Lyrics | Reviewer: Simon
------ About the song The National Front Disco performed by Morrissey
Morrissey is certainly not racist and the first reviewer was right to say he is mocking those with racist attitudes. In particular, he is mocking the racist views that were associated with football hooliganism in the early 1990s, and don't forget this song is from the album 'Your Arsenal'. It is also clear he is mocking racism when one considers that the song before the National Front Disco - We'll Let You Know - also ridicules those who believe they are 'the last truly British people you'll ever know' (Morrissey whispers at the end 'ever, never want to know' to show his own disdain of such people). In both these songs, Morrissey uses satire, putting himself inside the characters of the songs in order to expose them. Charles Dickens used a similar technique in his novels to highlight poverty and to create social awareness. As other reviewers have hinted at, this song is aimed at airing discussion on a crisis in British-especially English-identity, and to show the errors of those who try to preserve a Britain that-thankfully-does not exist anymore. Not a racist song, quite the opposite!

------ About the song Dear God, Please Help Me performed by Morrissey
to all those who think this song is somehow religious, you are way off the mark! it is a song about gay cruising, and wanting protection as it is so risky and dangerous, and then feeling like a man reborn afterwards.
yet another song from the mozfather that we all can relate to. it took me a couple of times to realize the meaning and drive behind this song. all he is doing is waiting for his love to arrive at a place they once met.
America the greatest country in the world? just because the average idiot gets paid more well at least it did for many years but now what is so great? palystation, internet, fast food and new cars?
why are the MOST of the people defending America always the most angry macho arrogant types that can only spit out insults?
where any of you ever taught that being polite might earn you some respect and maybe your arrogance is what makes everybody hate you in the first place.
To prove a point on how America is messed up read the comments by the idiot who says Tupac is good music and if he donesn't know the difference between that crap and something good well maybe he's better off not knowing as to keep the idiots in the dark.
It was great at one time but now its just filled with ignorance and materialist style that makes your life useless.

------ About the song Suedehead performed by Morrissey
Morrissey's recognises his weakness: he says sorry. But his real weakness is the fact that he had "a good lay" in the first place, realising as he must have done, the emotional road down which he lead his "lay."
The question is whether the beautiful art he produces is worth not correcting his own flaws (and I don't meean to indict him personally: we are all flawed). If he had nothing to be sorry about, there would be no song.

------ About the song Will Never Marry performed by Morrissey
This is brilliant. There is no overwhelming sadness in here despite of the message. It's strangely calming in fact.
And I totally relate to the song... the more I live the more I feel like I am going to die alone (like I have always been)...

------ About the song Irish Blood, English Heart performed by Morrissey
it's not a denounce..., but it's a dream. i've got galician blood, and basque heart. i know what he's talking about, 'cause i'm also divided into two parts. riding among them it's everytime hard, and has always to take one through a stretch patch of dreams... he knows about irish history, as i know about galician history. it's not hate, but you can put love for truth inside...
To those who find evidence in the lyrics of Morrissey's own personal racism, well, I think you've got it wrong. "National Front Disco?" C'mon, isn't that a rather undignified way to characterize the ambitions of an ugly sentiment by placing it in the ridiculous location of frivolity? "We've lost our boy?" What does that mean but Morrissey thinks that the boy is "lost" to racism, which is not a positive connotation, is it?
Now, "You're the One for Me, Fatty": THAT'S MEAN.

------ About the song The National Front Disco performed by Morrissey
morrissey's racist fact, please read the lyrics again and realise that this song shows the ignorance of a person joining the national front and not really knowing what he's joining for. no straight answers, no real explanation or backing to his reasons. neil, manchester, england.

------ About the song Jack The Ripper performed by Morrissey
I am just now listening to the song for the first time but I am really digging it. He came back to his earlier sound and writing style. I am really loving the song, but I can not say it is the best he ever wrote but it is worthy of his earlier stuff of when he was at his pinacle. Great stuff
This song is about morrissey.he has been quoted as saying He doesnt Hate asians he just doesnt like them very much.Morrissey used to get beaten up by 12year olds when he was 16 and in that part of Manchester there was a big asian comunity.Im guessing that morrissey got bullied by them and so carries round the scars. He can not come out and say it as he would never sell another record but its festering in him,as it is so many working class white boys.Irish blood,English heart is along the same lines. Why cant i be proud to be a working class white boy.poletitions make damn sure i cant be.bengali in platforms is another tune with the line...Dont blame me
Dont hate me
Just because Im the one to tell you
That life is hard enough when you belong here.
Morrissey is one the most talented people the north have every bred and yes he carries a certain workingclass ethos that a politition would call racist but the average working class man would call normal.

------ About the song I Have Forgiven Jesus performed by Morrissey
This song is not about him being gay. Its about the loss of love and absence of "the one". he is very open with his sexuality. There are no clues in lyrics to his sexual preferences. if he came out tomorrow nobody would really be surprised but, He has stated himself " i have tried bot and would rather have a cup of Coffee.
Meaning... | Reviewer: Lee
------ About the song I Have Forgiven Jesus performed by Morrissey
I've often listened and read and contemplated Morrissey's lyrics. At one point or another, I have shared almost all the views expressed here for this song. I'd like to offer a slightly different view for consideration. I think that people too often confuse (or at least fail to differentiate) an artist's inspiration with/from the true meaning of the work. This is as true of this particular Morrissey song as it is of DaVinci's Mona Lisa.
His sexuality is really irrelevant. His religion is equally irrelevant. Yes, it is a very directed song... (when he plays this song live, he often prefaces it with "I know it isn't mutual... but I have fogiven Jesus"). But ultimately the song is about the internal struggles that we place on ourselves based on what society (religious or otherwise) has instilled within our psyche. The meaning is whatever the listener needs it to be... to help him/her interpret and feel less alone in whatever aspect of life that is causing internal strife. We all have something... no matter if we are straight, gay, Catholic, Buddhist, or whatever.
Music is an artform. As such, the true beauty lies in its ability to draw an emotional response from its audience as well as its openness to interpretation.

Cromwell - hero or villain? | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Irish Blood, English Heart performed by Morrissey
The title is unpromising as it sounds anti-Irish - which it clearly isn't. Like the title, the overall effect of the lyric is confused. To make matters worse, Cromwell was a democratic hero in England but is understandably viewed as a murderous villain in Ireland. That can never change either way but at the end of the day it is dead history in 2009 and we can surely put it behind us. Good English hearts are already doing a lot to replace the old crude racist animosity to the Irish over here - I think this is what Morrissey is on about and he's right.
To Sam and the previous lady on the opposing side I would say you are both Irish at the end of the day and must surely have something in common. There have been crimes on all sides in the conflict. Let's put this old hateful division firmly behind us now we have the Peace Process and work together for a peaceful and really fair solution.

a fantastic allusion to football suporters' mentality. "I swear it's the turnstiles that make us hostile" is great, but nothing compares to "We are the last truly british people u will ever know". unreal.

------ About the song Irish Blood, English Heart performed by Morrissey
I honestly think that people should appreciate the knowledge of this song. And not to fight about what you think. To love one another for who they are. It doesn't matter about race, we are all people. We should all treat eachother with respect. I think people are very childish. Morrissey has a very good perspective on things. Appreciate please. Some people are utterly and outrageously mean on these comments, when we should all get along.
