ONE of the wildest vocalists in all of popular music, Bjork
Gudmundsdottir (known popularly simply as Bjork) has spent
most of her life creating artful, experimental music that
defies classification. Those who know her only by her solo
career may be surprised to learn that she released albums
with three separate bands prior to going it alone in 1993,
and in fact this eccentric and original talent has had some
measure of fame since she was sixteen.
When Bjork was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, it was not
immediately apparent that she would someday become the
world's best-known Icelandic musician, if not the country's
most identifiable citizen. As a child, she studied flute,
piano, and voice, and by 1979, she had joined her first
band. At fifteen, she formed the grou More...

------ About the song Pagan Poetry performed by Bjork
This song is typical of Bjork in it's subject matter, intimacy (recall "Hidden Place") love, and nature.
The song opens with "pedalling through the dark current" and the theme of darkness is repeated throughout the song, as with the imagery of black lilies. The mood here is obviously somber and the image of dark water could symbolize a troubled soul.
Next, she finds a "blueprint" of pleasure, a man with a crooked handshake. Then comes the line, "In the darkest pit in me, it's pagan poetry". There is almost undeniably some sexual tension building in these lines. The word "pagan" could even be associated with the practice of promiscuous or unorthodox sex acts.
Near the end of the song, the speaker is obviously feeling very passionate, woken from the dark, emotional "hibernation" of earlier lines. She has fallen deeply in love with this person who stirs up her innermost secret desires. But she is torn as to whether or not she should act on them, as expressed in the line, "And he makes me want to hand myself over".
This is a song about a woman who has been hurt emotionally, and is searching her soul to find a way back to love. She feels the excitement of lust and passion overwhelm her in her fragile state, and she is torn about letting down her gaurd at the risk of being hurt further.

------ About the song New World performed by Bjork
I love this song so-so-so much. This is the only song I've ever heard from Bjork, but, and I got turned to it from my sisters Marching Band. They play this, without the words.
So now, I walk down, singing it, and she's like waa?
But, yep, same with MMM, MMM, GOOD, I love it so much I bought the, um, *company* mp3.

------ About the song Pagan Poetry performed by Bjork
Pagan religions are the oldest religions and buried in the human subconscious. Pagan Poetry is love. "A secret code carved" an ancient magic: love.
Perhaps even love at first sight: "Swirling black lilies totally ripe" They aren't budding lilies or wilting lilies they are totally ripe (full on love) and swirling (disorienting).
She has had heartbreak but finds another man who she feels instantly connected with
"He offers
A handshake
Crooked
Five fingers
They form a pattern
Yet to be matched"
Again, love at first sight,--er perhaps handshake.
"A blueprint
Of the pleasure
In me"
He feels like the one. But this time she is approach love differently. She loves him, but she is going to keep herself to herself, yet she wants to hand herself over. She is conflicted, both with the times before and the possible hurt of the present attraction.

The song is about the responsibility she feels to everyone she employs, or everyone who is employed to help make her music. She felt the pressure to make music in order to secure the financial stability of all these people...

------ About the song New World performed by Bjork
She's so good, which surprises me, because most of her stuff I can't listen to. This song is so good, especially with listening to Overture first. Her voice replaces the french horn(?) part perfectly. I want more like this from Bjork. She should stop trying so hard to be different and weird. This is simply beautiful joyful genius-talent.
It is very simply for me to say that Bjork is a artist who is the epitome of art through song, and her performances.
When I first was introduced to Bjork's music I was left in a trance of purely being able to reach the depths of my inner self. I am surely grateful for Bjork being such a mezmerizing artist, who is truly a gift to all who experience her and her music.
I love you Bjork, and thank you for just being you.

------ About the song Pagan Poetry performed by Bjork
She's obsessed with him. He touches her in the way her mind and body prefer above all else. A pagan is somebody who worships a god, that is not one of the major religions. He is her God. "I find an accurate copy, a blueprint of the pleasure in me." She's afraid of how much she desires him.

------ About the song Hyper-ballad performed by Bjork
In this song there's energy, which makes me feel, that I'm one of the things that she throw down :)
this song is more popular than others, bacause it's can be "digest easily"; in fact, eysier than others, but I can hear int Björk's unique style still. That's why it is a very very good song

You could smell it So you left me on my own To complete the mission Now I'm leaving it all behind. That obviously means she was going to have sex with someone, he smelt her sent, left her alone and now she is doing the deed alone. Masturbation.

------ About the song WALKABOUT performed by Bjork
Bjork's vocals are particularly wonderful in this song; a voice and approach to singing like no one else's.
Think there may be a mistake in the transcription of the "Walkabout" lyrics on this site though! As the band helpfully indicated, featuring a cow prominently in the video for this song, such an animal is described by Bjork in the lyrics. Thus is that she describes having had "haunting MOOments" with this animal on her walk! Just a sweet, Icelander-playing-around-with-English type joke.
Some people have found Einar's additional vocals on this track unnecessary and/or irritating, but I don't agree. This is an unusual song from an unusual band. It's a treat!
Dancer in the dark made me know Bjork and from that day and onwards I just know onething there is only one Bjork in the world. The way she has performed in the movie is really amazing.I must say she is a pure soul with a pure classical voice in the world as she is unmatchable.I wish her all the best.

------ About the song Bachelorette performed by Bjork
i am desperate to know what the hell the video means. It just seems so random and having nothing to do with the lyrics.
Is it about how love is addictive? More like a love hate relationship? It's here today, gone tomorrow? But then, what the heck do those trees mean? And a forest lady finding a big book buried deep in the ground?
** i love this song, Bjork is just one of my favorites singers, i loved when she did "Dancer in the Dark" that was beautiful..I got my friends listening to this song and so many more of her music like Scary now that is something..well peace**

Ego is Death | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song I Miss You performed by Bjork
There are lot of these songs where there are multiple meanings to every single line. This is the same type of rhetoric found in the bible: psalms where King David(read as humanity) (and others) pined away for Salvation from their current woes (the need for cuddling). Her constant descriptions of knowing what to look for, not who is just like the search for the second coming. We are all looking for security, love, and compassion these three are in short supply these days.
Like the hopeless romantic Darlene its that feeling that that love exists, somewhere. You could either take that hope as a micro (self) or a macro sense (humanity) but since we are all humans(presumably) we are searching for that Hope or if you read the New Testament that Comforter that Jesus told us to strive for. Whether you believe in Jesus or not you still need something in your life as you hopefully strive for perfection.
Bjork is constantly working on her craft as she searches for He who will make her life perfect. She knew Him once before but now She misses Him. Life is the greatest love song ever composed from our dreams "And if you believe in dreams
Or what is more important
That a dream can come true"
Dreams themselves have multiple meanings when the Ego is concerned, but the fact remains that as we dream we create our own world, so you can believe in dreams or your ability to create the world around you (for better or worse) or you can shut yourself off. Psychology and psychiatry are heavily Dependant upon Freud for dreams, but for the waking life we vehemently oppose his work. So earthly man cannot be our salvation, only the spirit of Salvation or Hope (the source of Life) can be trusted as our leaders oppose each other and drive us all to madness Bjork gives us some wisdom:
"I know by now that you'll arrive
By the time I stop waiting" He is found within, but she has a lot of searching to do. Inner Peace is the greatest of all dreams, and unlike fairy tales of the world of men, inner peace is really the only Hope we have.
