Self Esteem Lyrics

Performed by Offspring
Review The Song (61)

I wrote her off for the tenth time today
And practice all the things I would say
But she came over
I lost my nerve
I took her back and made her dessert
Now I know I'm being used
That's okay man cause I like the abuse
I know she's playing with me
That's okay cause I got no self esteem

We make plans to go out at night
I wait till 2 then I turn out the light
All this rejection's got me so low
If she keeps it up I just might tell her so

When she's saying that she wants only me
Then I wonder why she sleeps with my friends
When she's saying that I'm like a disease
Then I wonder how much more I can spend
Well I guess I should stick up for myself
But I really think it's better this way
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? Yeah yeah yeah

Now I'll relate this little bit
That happens more than I'd like to admit
Late at night she knocks on my door
Drunk again and looking to score
Now I know I should say no
But that's kind of hard when she's ready to go
I may be dumb
But I'm not a dweeb
I'm just a sucker with no self esteem

When she's saying, oh, that she wants only me
Then I wonder why she sleeps with my friends
When she's saying, oh, that I'm like a disease
Then I wonder how much more I can spend
Well I guess I should stick up for myself
But I really think it's better this way
The more you suffer
The more it shows you really care
Right? Yeah-eh-eh

Two Great Tastes that tase great Together.... | Reviewer: Kapt Blasto | 9/3/11

Imagine these lyrics of the Offspring

...to the Eagles' Joe Walsh's song "Life's Been Good..."

NOW THAT WOULD BE KILLER!

Especially, if they got PAUL MCCARTNEY (post-Heather) to sing it!

That would be STRATOSPHERIC KILLER....

and if Sir Paul followed up a song of his own, that went a li'l sum'm sump'n like this:

"I'm gonna buy me...a one-legged hookah...
So's if I pizz 'er off, she can't run far...

I'm gunna buy me...a one-legged hookah...
So's if she tries 'n kick me, well she fall
right down....

She gunna see, One-legged movies wit' ME!
Pi-rats uv da' Car-i-be-ann shows by Faaaar..."

Bridge:
gonna find me a date wit' the hourly rate!"

submission (c) 2011 kapt blasto, so you can't steal it...but then again, why?

I also find this hard to believe, given that everything I've ever read about Cobain states he was obsessed with the woman, making the chance of him saying anything like this about Love, slim to none.

I don't know where you get your info Stephan. Nowhere does it say Kurt Cobain wrote the lyrics to this song. Bryan Keith Holland is credited for it in the album and on every website you can do research on. The Offspring would have been legally obligated to credit Kurt on the album sleeve had he written the song. Why would you make a statement like that and not state your sources. I guess it's because you have none. It's a really sloppy and moronic thing to do. You should erase your comment if you can.

loved this song forever | Reviewer: Ash | 8/10/10

I have loved this song since it first came out. I was 11 when this album came out and now I'm 27. love love love this song still. The Offspring still rocks.

BTW, Dexter could take me back and make me dessert anytime ;-)

wtf does this mean. Glad to know I'm right.

every other person is right in whichever way you make your submission but in everything we do or say, it is when you give yourself time, that you could be able to see the picture in its right colour and shape. remember love becomes stronger, when we all give it time to grow. time is all we need, thanx.

Can't Tell | Reviewer: Kaiser | 4/21/10

"knowall" apparently can't tell the difference between a tribute and a knock-off.

Since The Offspring and Nirvana were on friendly terms in the Nineties and since one of the possible , the fact that it's done in the style of Nirvana makes it more likely to be a homage rather than a rip-off.

This song is enjoyable in all the different ways, whether you're listening for the awesome riffs, the catchy chorus, or the story it all tells. 5/5 for this song, and I might say this is definitely in The Offspring's Top 10 songs, if not Top 5.

Hah! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/26/10

Man... I had a friend like this. I swear he had permanent inviible "Kick me" sign on his back. I kept telling him, "Just because a crazy bitch throws herself at you doesn't mean you have to catch her."

self esteem | Reviewer: stephan | 2/7/10

kurt cobain wrote the lyrics based on his love with courtney love the leadsinger of some chick band.... offspring band members and nirvana band members were somewhat together at a time and offspring ended up with this song singing kurts feelings of courtney... it even sounds like something he would say considering he shot himself obviously he didn't have the self-esteem to stand up to her.....

Dark Humor | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/23/10

Most of the people who find themselves in this kind of relationship are girls, not guys. The Offspring switching the genders on this song make it darkly humorous instead of merely pathetic. Excellent tune.
