Landlocked Blues Lyrics - Bright Eyes
Review The Song (40)
If you walk away, I'll walk away
First tell me which road you will take
I don't want to risk our paths crossing some day
So you walk that way, I'll walk this way
And the future hangs over our heads
And it moves with each current event
Until it falls all around like a cold steady rain
Just stay in when it's looking this way
And the moon's laying low in the sky
Forcing everything metal to shine
And the sidewalk holds diamonds like the jewelry store case
They argue walk this way, no, walk this way
And Laura's asleep in my bed
As I'm leaving she wakes up and says
"I dreamed you were carried away on the crest of a wave
Baby don't go away, come here"
And there's kids playing guns in the street
And ones pointing his tree branch at me
So I put my hands up I say "enough is enough,
If you walk away, I'll walk away"
And he shot me dead
I found a liquid cure
From my landlocked blues
It'll pass away like a slow parade
It's leaving but I don't know how soon
And the world's got me dizzy again
You think after 22 years I'd be used to the spin
And it only feels worse when I stay in one place
So I'm always pacing around or walking away
I keep drinking the ink from my pen
And I'm balancing history books up on my head
But it all boils down to one quotable phrase
If you love something, give it away
A good woman will pick you apart
A box full of suggestions for your possible heart
But you may be offended and you may be afraid
But don't walk away, don't walk away
We made love on the living room floor
With the noise in the background of a televised war
And in the deafening pleasure I thought I heard someone say
"If we walk away, they'll walk away"
But greed is a bottomless pit
And our freedom's a joke
We're just taking a piss
And the whole world must watch the sad comic display
If you're still free start running away
Cause we're coming for you!
I've grown tired of holding this pose
I feel more like a stranger each time I come home
So I'm making a deal with the devils of fame
Saying "let me walk away, please"
You'll be free child once you have died
From the shackles of language and measurable time
And then we can trade places, play musical graves
Till then walk away, walk away
So I'm up at dawn
Putting on my shoes
I just want to make a clean escape
I'm leaving but I don't know where to
I know I'm leaving but I don't know where to

hello everyone. this song has always torn me to shreds at the crossroads of my life. I'm currently going through some miserable crape with my girlfriend. we've been dating for 3 years and all of a sudden she no longer wants to tell me she loves me.shes going through a lot emotionally cause she just graduated. and now shes going to be moving to California. we have had a lot more spats in our relationship lately and now she says she needs me to be her friend right now and we cant fight. at first I took it the wrong way where I thought she wanted to break up but she explained shes emotionally drained from everything and that she needs me to support her not always fight. it doesn't help I have a jealousy problem.. I was starting to think it may be time to walk away till I read and heard in my head the line "you may be offended and you may be afraid but don't walk away. don't walk away." as a guy I try my best not to cry but that made me cry for the first time in forever. ill do my best to support her in what she thinks she needs to do despite what I feel. because I love her and although this song hits on sour feeling conor also hits hopeful notes

Although many people dont express there feeling well, conor has a special gift of protraying his feeling in this song. The first time I ever listened to this song it made me extremely sad, reminded me on how life can be crazy and corupt. Ive always felt alone when it come to the understanding of why we are here. To me we are here to love everyone and have peace within outselves and others. The more you inderstand, the more distrought the world can seem to you. You start to realize that people dont get the chance to live, they dont put everything into loving, the dont try and get along they just cause war, weather war is about religion, race, personality differences etc. When it talks about freedom it reminds me not to let the government control us, we are supose to be the center focus of the government. Its about what we want and to be frank I dont think they have helped us. And when it comesw to love, if the person you are with wont put everything into you, then thre is nothing better to do then just walk away.
Walking away. | Reviewer: Dillon magill | 10/17/11
I think I related most to the part, "the worlds got me dizzy again. You think that after 22 years I would be used to the spin. and it only feels worse when I stay in one place. So Im always pacing around or walking away". My whole child hood I would be moving from house to house. And even now im from state to state. Never being comfortable in one place. Everytime I have something good doing for me I have to be so detrimental and self destructive, messing everything up. This song helps me cope with that instability.

I love Conor & Bright Eyes, have seen them a few times & love their fans. I do not think there is another singer/songwriter to match Conor's ability to cut to the core of the listener. I wish I had half of his ability. if you wanna watch/hear me cover this song go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/citiesonfire001?feature=mhee

I just saw them live last night in des moines and i have to say they are infinitely better live... i was completely blown away! The raw emotion connor puts into each song cannot possibly conveyed on record, added to the fact that he has been on touring since forever and is such a good entertainer. this song in particular stuck out in my mind as one of the best and powerful of the show. bright eyes ahhh!
I WANNA THANK CONOR<3 | Reviewer: Eva<33 | 1/17/11
not only this song but all of conor's songs make me cry. Eva if im completely happy at the time..his songs bring me within myself. they show me my real emotions. I dont think his songs have any real meaning. it may mean one thing to him but mean something totatlly different to someone else. different parts of the songs may pop out to me then with other people. It brings like ..peace to me. Im going through the roughest time now. i just sit in class sometimes and just stare..i dont pay attention and i dont think..i just stare. i dont know why im un happy but its almost like i want to be unhappy. when i listen to conor..it brings some meaning and some understanding. i feel the same way he sings his songs. he really feels what he sings. he makes me understand things i never understood about myself. he makes me feel my own emotions i cant get in touch with sometimes and i never knew i had. next time im sitting in class and all i wanna do is stare..ill think of his lyrics..any song i wanna think about at the time..and i think it'll make things better. it already has. i love conor. he's my hero. i hope he comes to phillie sometime soon. i just wanna thank him for all he has done not only for me but for anyone who feels his pain. thankyou for taking the time to read this.
Someone finally understands | Reviewer: Nick | 11/18/10
I hate how Conor is labeled as "emo". Cause most of the time it feels like he is the only person who knows how I feel deep down inside. Landlocked blues has been my main song because wether it's boyfriend problems, friend problems, or the world has me dizzy again this song gives me some peace. And I most the time I'll just keep listening to it because it opens my eyes to different perspectives.

In highschool, I dated a guy and we sang this song on stage together. He asked me to sing it with him. And it was beautiful...its been 3 or 4 years since then and now i understand why he wanted to sing this song with me. It perfectly describes both of our lives. "If you love something give it away".

I just wanted to send my love to every single person that has posted a comment or is reading this.. I've read all of the comments and I must say, we have a very interesting group of people here, I love you guys and I wish everyone the best of luck with their lives, I know it's not always easy but when you look at it from a distance.. it's pretty damn beautiful.
Personally I absolutely love this song, I love the rawness and the realness bright eyes always offers. I feel so lucky to know them, I wish they would come to Holland so I could go and see them.
Much love to everyone who reads this. Take it easy darlings xx
you guys | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/23/10
are all extremely pretentious. grow up, and get a life. it doesnt matter what the true meaning is, he has been quoted to want to create feeling. and thats what he does. stop looking outside the box. its what you feel the song evokes that matters. there is no right meaning.
amazed. | Reviewer: friend | 8/27/10
i have no complex review to post. just wanted to say that this song to me captures so much of humanity. the emotions, the feelings, the everyday. but it also is so much more. to me its the most beautifully inspiring, yet chilling song i've ever heard. it evokes so many emotions in me, and everytime i listen to it i can take away something new. i wish all music was this good
Love and War | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/7/10
This song is about love and war. And "walking away" is a complex metaphor evoking both abandonment (in love) and the promise of peace (in war). The poetry of the song resides at the intersection of these two meanings. Gorgeous.
Idealism suffers Realism | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/9/10
Certainly not the whole, but part of the interpretation that I got from this song is that idealism suffers realism. It would be ideal for there to be no war. If we walk away, then they will walk away too. But more often then not, if you walk away, they'll shoot you dead.

I love this song so much it makes me cry. Especially "I feel more like a stranger each time I come home," because that's exactly how I feel. Just his voice is beautiful, but add the poetic lyrics and it just moves me.
Landlocked Blues | Reviewer: Dakota | 8/26/09
I want to cry every time I hear this song because, although it could have several different meanings within the song, it makes complete sense to me. When I hear this song, everything just seems...the way it should. This song takes a toll on me.
