kinks Lyrics

It is ironic that one of Britain's most enduring and
respected groups spawned from the beat boom of the early
60s has for the best part of two decades received success,
adulation and financial reward in the USA. Today this most
'English' institution can still fill a vast stadium in any
part of the USA, while in Britain, a few thousand devotees
watch their heroes perform in a comparatively small club or
hall.

The Kinks is the continuing obsession of one of Britain's
premier songwriting talents, Raymond Douglas Davies (b. 21

CELLULOID HEROES NEVER DIE. | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Celluloid Heroes performed by kinks

The song starts with a beautiful city, showing lots of vehicles in long shot. it is only after a while, the song starts in a slow rhythmic way.It is very interesting to see that all the objects are standing still except the camera. then there seems to have a collection of pictures arranged one after the other. It is almost in the middle of the poem...the city is shown again. Then slowly the speed of the poem increases....And the poem ends by showing the same city in the same way.
The poem brings lonely emptiness and their names are written in stones.
But they are forgotten. This poem is so deep and relevant....!!!

------ About the song Lola performed by kinks

You actually think Lola is a woman like yourself? Well, keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel comfortable in your mixed up, muddled up, shook up world in which you try to ignore that sometimes "girls will be boys and boys will be girls."

------ About the song Lola performed by kinks

I love this song, I love the Kinks. One of my first jobs was working with bassist Peter Quafes dad. He hated Ray and Dave Davies, as a result he didn't exactly offer any insights. I heard another version of the songs origin, was that Ray was living with a tranny for a while, but who knows, I still love him and his music.

------ About the song Lola performed by kinks

The rythm and tempo of this song was typical of the Kinks, who had a great sound. But the success of it was largely due to the kinkyness of the words and the topic of the song. It held a fascination for many listeners because it was an early forerunner of the far more open talk about trannys, gays, lesbians and bi-sexuals and thus it had an almost off-centre fascination. It was also pretty funny and an up-beat song too with the rawness of the Kinks sound adding to the raw reality of the topic. A great sound, song and foot-tapping laugh!

------ About the song Nobody Gives performed by kinks

It's amazing this song was written over 36 years ago. It is so spot on to our current situation in the good ole USA. I was a Kinks freak back then, but I never thought that these lyrics would rise up and hit me between the eyes. The whole Preservation Acts 1 and 2 are worth a listen - from Flash (aka Bernie Madoff) and Mr Black (acting more like a Teaparty elected president/prime minister rather than like Obama), to the falling of the housing bubble and the reasons why ("Demolition"). It's time to give this the attention it deserves. Thank you, Ray!

------ About the song Louie Louie performed by kinks

I just downloaded the best of the kinks discography and they did sing Louie Louie from the EP album KINK-SIZE year:1965 2nd song on the list.Louie Louie is an American rock 'n' roll song written by Richard Berry in 1955. It has become a standard in pop and rock, with hundreds of versions recorded by different artists. The song is written in the style of a Jamaican ballad; and tells, in simple verse-chorus form, the first-person story of a Jamaican sailor returning to the island to see his lady love.

The song you are referring to was Brother Louie by the group Story.

It started out something like this: She was black as the night, Louie was whiter than white, there's a danger when you taste brown sugar... Go to a search engine and type in {Brother Louie lyrics} and you will find the whole song.

'Brother Louie' was written by Errol Brown and performed and released by his band Hot Chocolate in 1973.

Hot chocolate had a hit with Brother Louie in the U.K. (#7) but never charted in the U.S. The Stories had the hit everyone remembers in the U.S.

The truth | Reviewer: Sierra
------ About the song Lola performed by kinks

the actual story behind this song is that the kinks band manager was out with the band in soho and was dancing with a transvestite and when he was asked if he saw the "stubble" he replied "yeah but i was too pist to care".

------ About the song Sunny Afternoon performed by kinks

Another great song by a often over-looked band. Ray Davies had all the song writing ability of Lennon/McCartney, the insight of Dylan and Donovan, and the hard edge refinement the Stones lacked.

Celluloid heroes still rings true | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Celluloid Heroes performed by kinks

this song is a deep and sad testimony of wasting ones life for temporary fame. When it's achieved it dosen't bring true life only a sad and lonely emptiness and with time even though their names are written in stone on a "famous" street they are forgotten. A very deep and relevant song.
