Sad lyrics. I feel bad for his mother. I feel worse for him though. I was a little disappointed in the lyrics. I draw a faith message from it anyways though, irony. He wrote this song to send anger towards God and here I am finding not malice but faith in it. Goes to show you that you cannot go again the Will of the Lord. He will use even songs directed against Him for Him. I like the way the song sounds. His mother has the right idea. Maynard is a lost man. Hopefully he will get it one day. His mother's faith angers him at the time, but one day he will understand what it means. She has it right, Christ would be proud.

As I get these lyrics, they perfectly capture the sickness of our society and morals today. People might be ditching jesus and god in name, but they are holding on to the morals without asking the most important question, "why?". While people were still christian at least there was a long tradition that balanced out this most ugly moral. But as it transmuted into humanist christianity and then pure humanism when christianity became unpopular, now there is only that bare naked moral left. Can you guess what it is?

Once again Maynard has created yet another brilliant piece of work! It will draw extreme prejudice from the brainwashed "Holy Rollers" of today-who believe every word of the man-written "fairy tale" book they call the bible-If there is a God-Who is to say that we can speak for him as to what is right and what is wrong??? "never question why??"...It is our nature to question things-our intelligence-our minds...were created by a higher power in this image. FREE WILL....They say your trip to heaven is nearby-You may believe it but SATAN wouldn't lie!!!!!!

Best song ever. I can relate. The love of my life, whom I have dedicated myself to, is a huge hypocritical christian. I have been able to look past it, because I agree with her ad her belief that Jesus was a great man. She has been afflicted with a crazy 20 year marriage to. So called christian and he mentally abused her and drive her to the edge of clinical depression and craziness. I come into her life and teach her what real love is. You know the things Jesus speaks of!! After all this she wants me to move out of our home because we're notarries and she can't live in sin anymore. This is for you baby. Because he did it all for you.

This song as mentioned before as being about maynards mom "judith" she became paralyzed and still loved god and thanked him and prayed for him. What he wasnt doing was praising her faith(i have no idea where you got that from) he was angry at it, that his mom would still love and worship a god who left her like that. He hated to see her suffer and wondered why she praised god when he would have been at fault. Its not like she deserved it but apperantly he did it to "help her" hence the he did it all for you part.

I have been a Tool fan since the first album. Maynard and those who write with him have long explored their uncertainties with faith through their lyrics. I am a Christian and currently attend a Christian university. I love every single Tool song. I love them because not only are the songs tales of what Maynard struggles with, but they also hold personal meaning for me. It is ok to question. Jesus himself (in my opinion) struggles with his faith when he prays on the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39-44) and I feel the struggle is part of the journey.

You come to faith on your own terms and on your own time. If you don't agree, don't listen to Maynard's testimony. He didn't understand his mother's undying faith. He is angry with what he watched his mother go through...anyone of us would have felt the same.

I love my God, my savior, my Christ. I don't have a problem with this song... especially now. It's a statement of the human condition and the author's personal experience.
The last thing I feel is abandoned by my God, right now. I don't hold him responsible for this either. I'm just grateful she has someplace to go from this agony.
It's such a powerful song, with such strong emotion. Indifference is worse than hate, to me. The person who wrote this is angry, but I hear belief in those lyrics.

I love this song, probably my favorite song by APC. But, I consider myself a pretty big Christian. I don't let the lyrics get me upset like some people do, clearly this is a very personal song and the man is angry. And, it is just a song. What makes me upset however is everyone who takes out their anger on God, Christians, or religion in general. I know there are a lot of hypocritical Christians out there in the world but thats no reason to blame all of us. Even with knowing that this song is anti Christianity, I'm still going to love it because its just an awesome tune. I hope everyone can understand that not all Christians want to get up in your face and judge you.

I LOVE THIS SONG!! That bein said I am a catholic I believe in God Christ and all that...I do believe sometimes it is hard to keep your faith when shitty things happen and when I hear this song it doesnt make me think of how he lost his faith it makes me think of his mother who mustve been a strong woman to keep that faith thru all her pain and suffering. Dont judge him for th songs he rites he trully has a talent its free will to belive what we want and to listen to what we want. im sure no matter how he felt about things his mother never judged him and neither should people who dont kno what he went thru. it takes a strong person to keep their faith and not judge people for what they believe. Love this song, APC and TOOL...staying away from bashing anyones belief system. Guess we all need something to get us through and it doesnt have to be religious in my opinion. Music gets me through, and Im very thankful to have my hearing, vision, ability of all ten toes and fingers, and the know how to choose what to believe or not. I choose to subscribe to the fact that theres good and evil, very evident in this age of media. I know the difference between the two and hope that if there is an afterlife, the two are separated. Im non denominational, not christian, muslim, athiest, or any other popular label. Its how I believe and where I am for me and think it should be this way for everyone. I choose to be good, charitable, and thankful to people in my life who are good to me. To the ones who are bad and evil? Fuck em! I'll let your karma will deal with you...that is unless its bad enough that I have to take it into my own hands...and then its breakfast a beer and another sun shiny day.

I just think that its sad with all the progresson the world has had over the past centuries and people are still so small minded that they feel the need to believe in fairytales like a god! Come on now people what year is it? Who even wrote the bible anyway oh that's right deciples of none other you lord jesus christ and what are deciples you ask? They are human beings. @Praise God - you say God has a path for everyone and then criticise Maynard for being on his own path. Surely Maynards path is between him and God and has nothing to do with you? Stop getting angry at other people for your own failings?

I never really knew what he was saying in this song. It doesn't make dislike them or anything. Maynard is entitled to his own free will. I also disagree with religion, it's just another way for people to split into groups and say their side is right and the other side is wrong. However, I do believe that Christian or not, anyone can benefit and live a more positive life from many of Jesus' teachings.

Stop analyzing and justifying the song. All I hear is so much pain and agony over the loss of Judith. He has every right to how he feels. You wouldn't like someone telling you how you feel is wrong. My heart goes out to Maynard.
