Holier Than Thou Lyrics

Performed by Metallica
Review The Song (14)

NO MORE!!!
The crap rolls out your mouth again
Haven't changed, your brain is still gelatin
Little whispers circle around your head
Why don't you worry about yourself INSTEAD!!!

Who are you? where ya been? where ya from?
Gossip burning on the tip of your tongue
You lie so much you believe yourself
Judge not l'est ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Before you judge me take a look at you
Can't you find something better to do
Point the finger, slow to understand
Arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand

It's not you are it's who you know
Others lives are the basis of your own
Burn your bridges and build them back with wealth
Judge not l'est ye be judged yourself

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

Yeah who the hell are you?
Hey yo

Holier than thou
You are
Holier than thou
You are

You know not

NOT!!!

out of context | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/5/11

The verse in the Bible that says judge not lest ye be judged, is not talking about judging others, but about hypocrisy, it is taken out of context, Jesus later goes on to say that you cannot point out the speck in your neighbor's eye while ignoring the log in your own, again, it's about hypocrisy.

This songs is lashing out on both the christians who thinks that they can judge someone just as they meet them for the first time, and persons who says they are better then everyone else, and before you judge someone you need to take a good look at yourself before even thinking on judge someone

Umm people seriously | Reviewer: Matt Duest | 8/4/10

This song is quite noticeably about Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, who at the time was talking a lot of shit about Metallica due to the effort he put into "Rust In Peace" and soon to be Countdown to extinction.

The guy below me is a fucking fag and doesn't know what he's talking about.

And a lot of people areright about what it talks about (the song) but this song was made for Bob Rock, James said it in an interview.

Metallica for life!!

looking inward | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/18/10

Anyone ever consider that this song, especially nowadays, could very well apply to Metallica? Pompous, self righteous, overly egotistical for very little quantifiable reason... Metallica... "YOU ARE!"

holier than thou | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/11/09

this song basically talks about people who think they're better than everyone else and just because they act different that they have the right to point the finger and judge. As it says often times people are far too quick to judge without getting to know them at all.

Intolerance and Ignorance. | Reviewer: bloodforoil8 | 11/28/09

This song is lashing out against those who seem to think they can go about and judge everybody different from them. At first glance, I thought this song was written as an attack on fundamentalist christianity(where that "holier than thou" crowd flocks), but I believe it is broader than just that. Anyone who claims they have the higher ground is indeed the more corrupt individual.

Religious | Reviewer: Truth | 7/5/09

I think the song has religious overtones, as well. Isn't there a line in the Bible somewhere that says just that'' "Judge naught lest ye be judged yourself?" PRetty sure it means that people judge too much--whether it be by appearanc eor whether or not certain individuals or groups are worthy of supposed "eternal rewards." General religious consensus says to leave that judgement to whatever God you call your own.

Don't piss off Hetfield | Reviewer: kiplingfan | 4/8/09

So I'm guessing James is sitting at home (pre-therapy) pounding down a few and listening to his old lady. She might have told him any number of thigs that is on her mind, and/or criticizing him and he's quietly staring at the wall getting angrier and angrier. This song is probably what he was thinking.

I see it all the time. | Reviewer: Reverend Crash | 9/7/08

Being a member of an Outlaw Motorcycle Club, I get judged by the way I look all the time. Never mind the fact I'm an ordained Minister and Chaplain of said Club.

People need to mind their own business. The ones who shout the loudest have the most skeletons in their closet.
