the song is about a man in love with a female displaying Borderline Personality Disorder traits. Perhaps a bit of narcissism. I've been there. Don't EVER go there. Harsh, girl. Too each his own! Is it not really up to personal interpretation? I don't think any of us have personally talked with John Lennon about the meaning of this song and I sure don't think he would appreciate the hostility generated over it here. Also, in Rolling Stone Lennon said: "in a way, trying to say something or other about Christianity". Give peace a chance, brothers and sisters.

The inhale sound produced during the chorus has nothing to do with pot. If you clench your teeth and inhale sharply, as the Beatles do in video, one realizes that the sound is actually meant to express the frustration/anger/confusion that is felt about the girl.

This song is NOT about weed. Seriously, it's a wise and sad song about a girl that never gives you a 100% of her attention, what is making you so crazy about her and makes it so hard to leave her, because you don't actually feel that she is yours. She is beautiful and unique, yet she doesn't really love you, just the idea of you. She's very confident of herself, and aware of how you feel about her, and that's why she feel so comfortable to play with you and humiliate you. And you are like her puppy. THAT'S what the song is about.

Don't understand why everyones up and arms about whether or not its about pot or a girl... I mean clearly, he wrote it about his wife and his marriage troubles with Cynthia, but I think the pot reference in there is a reference to his own life of how he dealt with those marriage troubles, which was through drugs. Beautiful song.
