Another Brick in the Wall (Compliation) Lyrics

Performed by Pink Floyd
Review The Song (54)

Daddy's flown 'cross the ocean
Leaving just a memory
A snapshot in the family album
Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what'd you leave behind for me?
All in all it was just a brick in the
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall

You, Yes You, Stand Still Laddie!

When we grew up and went to school, there were certain teachers who would hurt the children anyway they could
by pouring their derision upon anything we did
exposing every weakness however carefully hidden by the kids.

But in the town it was well known that when they got home at night
their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

ooooooooooooo, oooooooo, ooooooooooo, ooooooooo, ooooooooo, ooooooooo, oooo.

We don't need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

(A bunch of kids singing) We don't need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teacher! Leave us kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

Spoken:
"Wrong, Guess again!
Wrong, Guess again!
If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding.
How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?
You! Yes, you behind the bikesheds, stand still laddie!"

[Sound of many TV's coming on, all on different channels]
"The Bulls are already out there"
Pink: "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrgh!"
"This Roman Meal bakery thought you'd like to know."

I don't need no arms around me
And I dont need no drugs to calm me.
I have seen the writing on the wall.
Don't think I need anything at all.
No! Don't think I'll need anything at all.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.
All in all you were all just bricks in the wall.

Another brick | Reviewer: Zug | 12/4/11

The wall is an amalgam of indocrination, of culture, that collectively forms a barrier around Pink from the outside world. From his school days to becoming a rockstar Pink becomes more and more closed in. There is a bit of Pink in all of us and that is the premise of the album/ movie.

Anit-socialism | Reviewer: Paul Saxon | 8/21/11

I think its about resisting the socalist movement being pushed on kids in school and adults by the social movement. Another brick in the wall refers to the Berlin wall. Teachers are going along with it and building walls in the kids mind expecting them to check their brains in at the door. Its about going against

Us and them, all build the wall... | Reviewer: Thomas | 8/13/11

There are "teachers" everywhere. Pink looks back on his life and see that the walls were everywhere. The teacher in the song brings the hate (ie the wall) of his life at home with his "fat and psychotic wife" to school and create walls of hate around the children. The child see this behavior and pass it on to each other; in one form the teasing of Pink. As an adult Pink is lashing out in his own manner destroying the hotel. Even the things that Pink was taught was good and right like marriage has been proven to be a sham. His performance is canned, his sex life has no meaning or even fun. As an artist Pink has an image he is suppose to portray, has a music style that sells ect...and no one wants that to change because they are all riding that gravey train; so Pink has a lot pressure on him. Pink's "breakdown" where he shaves all his hair could be just that a breakdown, but it also could be a breakout, trying to be so out there that no one would follow him and all the pressure would be gone and he could be alone. But it fails and he has a bigger more dedicated following.
Throughout the history of the band Pink Floyd, and many other bands, there was in-fighting and fights against promoters and producers so from the writer prospective this was some what biographical so the writing of this song and the album as a whole (both real and in the world created in album) could be seen as cathartic to the creaters; passive aggressive behavior by the promoters;
Art as well as everything else is always viewed by perspective.

my thoughts | Reviewer: Rick | 7/14/11

i think the wall means the wall of conformity, and the man is building a wall to make us conform to what they want. and the education part i think the teacher is supposed to represent the man. the children represent the future and tearing down the wall represents being our own person, being true to ourselves, and not letting the man get us down, and not slaving away to a corrupt government.

Please read this don't missunderstand the song. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/11/11

The bricked wall means all the things that make people's life bleak because of the contemporary things, we now have a domestic way of living, we are not the human beings we naturally are but the ones that we are because of the shame of everything that makes part of us. For example, the teacher hurts the child's mind when he exposes his weakness, it makes the kid think that his weakness is something wrong, then, some years later, the kid will become as agressive and resentful as his own teacher.

for the clearing it all up | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/20/11

this song represents "education" but not in the form of real education it represents education of slavery and respect of fear not about what it should be to teach the children to be open, creative and what they realy are the bricks are the things that are closing them into a sacluded place of lonlyness and fear of what is really out there, the people in general must be fre e and they need to be what they really are and not a controled thing...

The line "Another Brick in the Wall" has so many meanings | Reviewer: Daniel | 5/31/11

"Another Brick in the Wall" could also mean turning other into mindless slaves of society. In this song the teachers (Bricks) are trying to turn the children into mindless slaves (or Brick as well)just like themselves. The children eventually succumb this brainwashing and grow up to become Bricks in the Wall of a mindless and oppressive society.

You cannot interpret this song on its own! | Reviewer: Tracey | 3/27/11

This song is only a part of a whole album about "pinks" life, the wall refers to his wall around him and each tragedy in his life is another brick in his wall i.e getting picked on at school, growing up without a father, being ignored by his mother, divorce, drugs etc. Incidentally all the women in his life are redheads. See the movie, and you will understand :)
