Far and away the longest lasting and the most successful of
the 1970s' progressive rock groups, Yes has proved one of
the lingering success stories from that musical genre. The
band, founded in 1968, has overcome a generational shift in
its audience and the departure of its most visible members
at key points in its history to reach the end of the
century as the definitive progressive rock band.
Where rivals such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer withered away
commercially after the mid-'70s, and Genesis and King
Crimson altered their sounds so radically as to become
unrecognizable to their original fans, Yes has retained the
same sound, and performs much of the same repertory that
they were doing in 1971 — and for their trouble, they find
themselves being taken seriousl More...
Review about Yes Progressive Rock Legend | Reviewer: Golden
------ About the song Roundabout performed by Yes
Yes is a classic rock/ progressive rock band that has major talent. From the first time I heard this song I fell in love with them. I am only fifteen but I have been listening to Yes for many years now. This is one of the single best songs ever. I would go so far as to say that the album Fragile is best album I have heard. Best band ever tied with Zeppelin, and Floyd.
Best Wishes,
Golden

------ About the song In The Presence Of performed by Yes
Did anyone look at he release date of Magnification?
I'm not so sure that they aren't clairvoyant.
Clairvoyant or not, Steve Howe is a genius. I saw the tour for this album in Kansas City - my 7th Yes concert. Watching Wakeman with reading glasses, reading sheet music, to play the orchestra was kinda funny.... until I needed to pull out my reading glasses myself to complete a transaction at the bar.
Chris Squire doesn't jump as high as he did in the '70s on stage but then again I don't either. The bass line from On the Silent Wings of Freedom got a huge applause during a medely.
Alan White was Alan White, steady and supurb.
Sadly Jon seemed un-enthused. I suppose it was the venue of about 5,000 gray beards like me. The funny thing was that I was seated next to a late teen / early 20's aged college girl that drove over 300 miles to see Alan White. She was a drummer herself and she was as enthusiastic as I was.
Jon Anderson IS a Prophet...he writes and speaks like one. Have loved his music since my teens. :-)
His message is as timeless as any other prophet, whether they be The One or one of many, he is a teacher and a preacher.
I am listening...

------ About the song In The Presence Of performed by Yes
"In The Presence Of" is one of the most definitive songs to ever grace a YES CD,DVD,or vinyl for that matter. It has become one of if not my most favorite song. The first time I saw YES was in the summer of '73. That tour spun off YESSONGS and I became a rabid fan. Thirty six years and almost 20 concerts later, this is the most ingenious and prolific band I have ever seen. It is a travesty that this group is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and something needs to be done about this. YES was twenty years before their time and no one, with the exception of Pink Floyd(who by the way is in the RRHOF)has produced anywhere close to the exceptional body of work that this band has. I encourage all YES fans to write long and often to the RRHOF so this group of guys in any and all of the YES incarnations, will get the deserving and long overdue induction into the Hall.

------ About the song Roundabout performed by Yes
This is the first popular piece of music I ever heard, played at the end of a planetarium visit to Michigan State in 1972.
The overdubs, the brilliant work on guitar and synthesizer, and the timeless lyrics that make little sense still have me going to Yes concerts now.
If you have been in another galaxy and missed this classic piece of Progressive Rock, get a copy and play it! Over and over! I have worn out several vinyl records of its album "Fragile," thank goodness for CDs.
I just saw Yes perform in Baltimore, the "In the Present" tour, 2008. They were very wonderful. However, without Jon, that certain element of blessing, just isn't there. This song, synthesizes the incredible synergy and message of Yes. "In the Presence of" contains such emotion, simplicity, yet layering for me. I can hear influence from the Going for the One album, as well as the intensity of CTTE, Yessongs, AYAI. Pray that Jon returns with Rick, Chris, Steve and Alan. Long live Yes!

------ About the song Tempus Fugit performed by Yes
inspired, inspiring, creative and extraordonary. All words that come to mind during this song. while the lyrics are nothig to special, they're hardly dull and the way they are sung is the reason for that. The Guitar and most notably the Bass work in this piece is phenominal and well refined. A good lenght, great riffs and an epic scale propel this to one of the highlights of the DRAMA album.

------ About the song Perpetual Change performed by Yes
Loved song when I was 15, love it today...No one has a voice like Jon, and add that to the lyrical insight and mystery and truth of perpetual change that I have seen in life, and it's just ....magic.
i only understand one line in this whole song. that line is: "dont't surrond yourself with yourself." that means to not be narsacisitc, or self-centered.
First lines in the song Soon | Reviewer: Mike Roby
------ About the song Soon performed by Yes
I beleive the first lines in soon to be----
"Soon oh soon the light"
"As we lead up to the sandless night"
It does not make that much since but I have listened to it over and over and wanted to know the lyrics. Please review and I hope this helps or that I am wrong. You have an awesome lyrics site.
I think this song is based on Through the Looking Glass, the second Alice in Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll. The whole book is a chess game, and Alice joins the game as a pawn, but makes her way through the board to become a queen.

Indeed, what a beautiful song. Jon Anderson has the perfect voice in reciting the lyrics to this incredibly beautiful ballad. I believe this song can be appreciated by people of all ages. It is among my most revered.

------ About the song Holy Lamb performed by Yes
Vastly underrated album, and this is one of my favorite songs from the album. Jon Anderson's voice soars through the melody. I think it would have been a little better had it just been acoustic guitar, but Holy Lamb is still a fantastic song.
Best Yes song ever. I can listen to this song over and over for hours without getting tired. Perfect instrumentation, touching lyrics, and beautiful song.

Yes before they were Prog!!! | Reviewer: toby
------ About the song Yesterday And Today performed by Yes
This song has two attributes that most Yes fans would not associate with the group;this song is both simple and short. For a band who would go on to record twenty minute,mellotron-infused suites, the sound of Jon Anderson singing to about two-and-a-half minutes of simple piano music is really interesting. Yesterday and Today, the third track on the eponymous debut album (1969),shows a young band, sure of its talent, yet unsure of its direction. (Much of this can be attributed to original guitarist Peter Banks, who seemed to envision Yes as a Cream-style jazz-rock band.) Y&T is a beautiful, relaxing fusion of Jon's high-register voice and a soft acoustic piano that made no effort to compete with the voice track. Completely unpretentious (we're taliking about YES,folks!), I highly recommend this song.

------ About the song Heart of the Sunrise performed by Yes
Heart of the sunrise is one of the master pieces of the history of Rock. It is complex in all directions: very few bands can equal the imagination, inventive, composition, and the technique level shown in this song of Yes. Greetings from México.
Ten True Summers | Reviewer: Kent Agne
------ About artist/band Yes
As with much of Yes's lyrical content, I have no clue what Ten True Summers is supposed to mean. I do know that it evokes an inspired feeling as it combines with the rest of the musics content. I really enjoy the concise informative article. I do have a question. It seems that there were times that I heard Roundabout that there were words being sung during the closing da da da da dah dah da. Anyone else have knowledge of this OR was I just a little too juiced on chemical amusement aids.
