This external control, it runs out is used by... um... others to control us, sometimes for our own good and sometimes for slavery or worse. Sting, I believe is more "in the know" about this sort of thing and consequently touches on it in this song and many many others. "The details" of who, what, how, when, where of this rant are as they say "esoteric", so I won't devuldge anything more as that is why we are ALL here, to find this stuff out on our own. BUT I would just like to thank Sting for leaving glaring abvious hints about what "tradition" the author of the song is refering to, I know... do YOU? (remember in the movie stripes when the black guy shakes his hands at Pvt. Francis Sawyer and goes "OoooohhhHHHHoooo"? I'm doing that at you the reader in jest, so don't put me on "your list").
