Van Morrison Wonderful Remark Lyrics

Last updated: 10/17/2013 06:22:18 AM

How can you stand the silence
That pervades when we all cry?
How can you watch the violence
That erupts before your eyes?
How can you tell us something
Just to keep us hangin' on?
Something that just don't mean nothing
When we see it you are gone
Clinging to some other rainbow
While we're standing, waiting in the cold
Telling us the same old story
Knowing time is growing old.

That was a Wonderful Remark
I had my eyes closed in the dark
I sighed a million sighs
I told a million lies - to myself - to myself

How can we listen to you
When we know your talk is cheap?
How can we ever question
Why we give more and you keep?
How can your empty laughter
Fill a room like ours with joy
When you're only playing with us
Like a child does with a toy?
How can we ever feel the freedom
Or the flame lit by the spark
How can we ever come out even
When reality is stark?

That was a Wonderful Remark
I had my eyes closed in the dark - yeah
I sighed a million sighs
I told a million lies - to myself - to myself
Baby to myse - e - e - elf

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO OUR PRESIDENT | Reviewer: ROCHELLE | 10/17/13

When I listen to this song, I feel the frustration of all my fellow South Africans, These lyrics are just about everything I would like to say to our President and his cabinet, with their closed eyes and empty promises, especially in the next few month leading up to our elections.

In return | Reviewer: George | 8/23/10

I think it is about politicans, and the empty promises they give just to make us get behind them. When he says he has his "eyes closed in the dark" i think he means he was blind to all the trickery and dishonesty that goes on behind all the flowery speeches and comments that they make. Just my opinion.. :)

Puzzling | Reviewer: Elizabeth | 4/8/07

I like this song a lot, but I'd like to more about it. Who is the singer addressing? Is Van railing at God? Or politicans? Or what?
I'd love to hear what others think.
