Wings For Marie (Part 1) Lyrics - Tool
Review The Song (3)
You believed ...
You believed in movements none could see.
You believed in me
A passionate spirit
Boundless and open
A light in your eyes
Fell at the hands of those movements that I wouldn't see
Yet it was you who prayed for me.
So what have I done
To be a son to an angel?
What have I done
To be worthy?
Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents
Difficult to see you in this light
Please forgive this selfish question, but
What am I to say to all these ghouls tonight?
"She never told a lie,
... well might have told a lie,
But never lived one.
Didn't have a life,
Didn't have a life,
But surely saved one."
See? I'm alright
Now it's time for us to let you go.

Sweet amends | Reviewer: Brian | 5/5/10
This is obviously the answer to the question Maynard ask with APC.."How do you go about making your amends to the dead". Well you go about living your life to honor that person. To be worthy. It is a great song for a woman he obviously cares so much about and he is letting her body go but keeping her spirit alive.
To the "selfish question". I can't help but think that he is asking his mother this question at the funeral home. He keeps his character defects in check when addressing the Ghouls.
Who are these Ghouls???...well i'll see you at Wings part 2.

This song and 10,000 Days (Wings pt 2) are talking about Maynard's mom. Something happened to her and she paralised forever "Then immobilized.". The time between the paralysis and her death was 27 years (10,000 days)
