Wild World Lyrics - Cat Stevens

Review The Song (34)

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

[Chorus:]
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl

I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

[Chorus]

CCAT STEVENS SONGS | Reviewer: CSTAGGS | 7/2/14

I'VE BEEN A MUSICIAN FOR THIRTY plus years and music is self expression his songs are beautiful and written by him for him not to evoke a conflict between people one hears and interprets what they personally neeD. From them at that time. STOP THE BACK AND FORTH AND LISTEN. TAKE WHAT WHAT YOU WILL FROM THEM. UNLESS YOU HAVE SPOKEN TO HIM ABOUT THE MEANING OF THEM SHUT UP ANDLISTEN. THE MAN IS ABOUT WORLD PEACE. INNER PEACE. AND LOVE NOT CONFLICT!!!!!!!!!!

I love the song. I think maybe it was first love for them both. He grew , she grew and it didn't work out and she leaves. He will not know her as an adult but in his mind she will be the first love. He will remember how she was not who she becomes without him, I still picture my first love him as I knew him. He was seventeen and so was I. I am much older now but memories don't age. I think he was showing as much maturity as he coul, wished her well but maybe knowing she was naive wants her to be careful.

any young girl | Reviewer: evangeline | 9/21/12

growing up in the 1960's this song had so much meaning to me, i almost envied the wild world and i did wish i could have had enough courage to go out into that wild world. the world can be dangerous the writer was giving a loving warning, but i think he was in love and wishing her the best of everything. in review this song is for anyone, son or daughter, who ventures away from home.

DIDN'T LISTEN BACK IN THE DAY | Reviewer: DOT | 9/17/12

WHEN I WAS A YOUNG MOTHER I LOVED THE SONG BUT DID NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE LYRICS. I HEARD IT AGAIN TODAY 36 YEARS LATER. TO BAD I DIDN'T SAY THESE WORDS TO MY DAUGHTER WHEN SHE LEFT HOME ALL THOSE YEARS AGO. SHE DIED TWO YEARS AGO AT 49 YEARS OLD. THIS WILD WORLD WAS JUST TOO HARD FOR HER TO LIVE IN.

Wild World - Bad Boy Cat | Reviewer: Kitty Cat | 2/9/12

This song was probably written for Patti D'Banville since she was obviously the only woman to stick around longer than a couple of months. The words are condecending, egotistical and filled with a quiet anger. All sung in a beautiful lilting voice to disguise his true feelings of bitterness. Probably a difficult man to get to know, deep thinker, always searching for something - boring too i expect, control freaks usually are. Shame cause his voice was good, his hair was beautiful and his bod was brill. Cat face it, you never got the girl and you never learned why.

not every lover feels like this | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/23/11

only a lover who has shared, unfortunately, his or her life with the type of person described in this song. bruto hit the nail on the head. this is not a "daddy song". this person was bored with the everyday mononity that can happen in many a relationship, thought the grass was greener, and chose novelty, wardrobe, and excitement over something rich and complex. these people are miserable and do not understand how they are wired. it's makes for great music and song writing however:)

To Carol: No Not for his sister | Reviewer: to carol | 8/6/10

He wrote this song for Patti D'arbanville whom he was together for a while. He also wrote some other songs for her as well. But the lycrics can be read for a daughter too. And i have a daughter. So i understand your feelings Carol, though she is just a kid right now. Hope u enjoy with this info

HIS SISTER | Reviewer: carolybn | 7/23/10

I have always been told, that this song was written to his sister who was leaving home. Anyone ever heard that story?
I have loved this song all of my life. I am framing the words for my 18 year old daughter to hang in her dorm room.
She grew up listening to Cat Stephens and "Wild World" and I played it at her graduation party.
From a greiving mother who is loosing her only daughter to the Wild World of College. Pray for me.....

Dear friends:

I think that maybe as this song is almost a hymn, it should be published with all its details, without omitting a single word. My proposal is the following one.

Thank you,

Their friend always,

Carlos.

Wild World Lyrics

Lalalalalala...

Now that I've lost everything to you
You say you wanna start something new
And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

CHORUS:
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you sad, girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware
Well

CHORUS

Lalalalala....

Baby, I love you
but if you wanna leave, take good care
Hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
but just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Well
CHORUS
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
and I'll always remember you like a child, girl

Precisely... | Reviewer: To bruto | 3/21/10

bruto: Isn't that precisely how every human being's goodbye (to a lover who breaks their heart) would come off as? The feeling portrayed in this song is incredibly deep. Much deeper than you think.

Not so beautiful on reflection | Reviewer: bruto | 2/28/10

I used to like this song back in the 70's, and of course like most Stevens songs it's prettily done, but then I actually paid attention to the lyrics. If you think about it, what is he actually telling this former lover in his sweetly condescending tone? I've lost everything to you, but you've made a fickle choice for novelty, you don't know squat about life, you're nothing but a child and always will be, all you really care about is clothes, but I hope (or so I say) that you won't regret leaving after you find out how rotten the world is "out there" without my protection.

I think it's actually a snarky, misogynistic, belittling guilt trip thinly disguised as a fond farewell.

Advice to a Meaningful life | Reviewer: Roshan Abeyratne | 2/12/10

this song is really a gorgeous and very meaning ful lyrics, thanks to the composer. I can listen to this song thousand times a day, ever best ,never in future, melody is also good, merged in every aspect produced a better creation.
It depicts the reality of the world.
preserve this for future generation.

Good daddy song. | Reviewer: Brit | 12/12/09

To me this song symbolizes a dad singing to his daughter greiving over the fact that shes going away to start a new life as an adult. It's a wonderful song. My dad is the one who introduced it to me and I love it.

Suckers | Reviewer: Get Real | 10/10/09

This song is totally about this dude throwing the control onto this chick. He brags about being wise about the bad world and how he sees her like a child. Sounds like he thought he had some PYT he could control and now that she is moving on he is trying the fear/guilt combo.

If you think this song is romantic, then you probably think "Every Breath You Take" is actually a love song. Get real, peeps.
