Wild Cherry is an American funk/rock band from Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, that achieved fame with its only hit, 1976's
"Play That Funky Music." While the band is considered a
one-hit wonder, the song remains a popular staple at clubs,
with cover bands and on the dance floors at weddings and
other parties.
Origins
Wild Cherry was formed in Pittsburgh in 1970, when singer
Rob Parissi put together an outlet for his love of bands
like the Yardbirds and fellow funk-rockers Sly and the
