Before playing this song, he explained how it was created. Once at the beginning of his career (which did start in Atlanta), he was on his way to a small gig and was driving down 85 when he realized that he had forgotten his guitar. When he arrived, an hour and a half late, he explained and apologized to the waiting audience of four...in song. "I was driving down 85 and..." When this on the spot tune was combined with a chorus he had been working on already, "Why Georgia" was created. Eddie's Attic was one of his primary spots he played. 85'ing refers to I-85 which is the interstate he must have traveled to get to his apartment (probably in Gwinnett County). The Atlanta/Athens, GA music scene has produced a number of big acts including REM, B-52's and too many rappers to list. I think the song reflects a time of JM questioning whether he was doing the right thing by leaving the Northeast and coming to ATL to try to make it.
