Why Don't You Get a Job Lyrics

Review The Song (15)

My friend's got a girlfriend
Man he hates that bitch
He tells me every day
He says "man I really gotta lose my chick
In the worst kind of way"

She sits on her ass
He works his hands to the bone
To give her money every payday
But she wants more dinero just to stay at home
Well my friend
You gotta say:

"I won't pay, I won't pay ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"
Say "no way", say "no way ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"

I guess all his money, well it isn't enough
To keep her bill collectors at bay
I guess all his money, well it isn't enough
Cause that girl's got expensive taste

"I won't pay, I won't pay ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"
Say "no way", say "no way ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"

Well I guess it ain't easy doing nothing at all oh yeah
But hey man free rides just don't come along
every day

(Let me tell you about my other friend now!)

My friend's got a boyfriend man and she hates that dick (and the guy!)
She tells me every day (woo! everyday now)
He wants more dinero just to stay at home (stay at home!)
Well my friend
You gotta say: (gotta say!)

"I won't pay, I won't pay ya (woo), no way (no way!)
Na-na Why don't you get a job" (woo - get a job!)
Say "no way", say "no way ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"
(oh yeah!)
"I won't give ya no money
I always pay
Na-na Why don't you get a job" (get a job!)
Say "no way", say "no way ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job!"

Hey that's something everyone can enjoy!

I like this song because it talks about everyday life, instead of all the other songs by the majority of bands/singers around, which only talk about sweet sweet love/impossible love etc. or about politics/society and so on.
This song is about "down to earth" situations that stand between a couple, and no one can avoid this, even if you have the highest of feelings towards your partner, one cannot avoid dealing with money, this song actually spurs people to go out and work and get his/her things done by their own.

Hilarious send-up | Reviewer: Dan | 4/12/10

This song cracks me up every time... and yes, it is most definitely a guitar/steel drum send-up of Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel, NOT Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da at all. AT ALL. At all. If it has similarities to Ob-La-Di, it's because Cecilia did too, but it's way closer to Cecilia.

same as always | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/20/09

i love this song.. my old boyfriend used to have me "run away" with him just so that he could walka amile to the nearest mc donalds and buy 20 dollars worth of food using my money... this song fits perfectly... whats funny is hes old enough to get a job (im not) and he doesnt because he bitches how he isnt in high school. told him it was his fault, he looks at me and tells me that its cause i dont call him... LOL

TRANSLATION | Reviewer: Denzil | 6/23/09

I live in South Africa and went to a concert last Friday where a local band "SNOTKOP" played an Afrikaans translation of this song , which is one of my all time favs.

Man, I almost hosed myself, one line goes: "Sy kerm elke donnerse dag" (she bitches every goddam day)

The chorus line goes summing like....: "Nana kry jou bas by die werk" (Nana get your arse to the job/office/workshop"

I am trying to get the rest of the lyrics... I loved it.

Man this fits... | Reviewer: Tom F | 1/31/08

Just change that first line to "I had a girlfriend and I hate that b!tch." and I could sing it to the mother of my daughter, lol. She just wants to sit on her rear and do nothing, it's why we never lasted.

In a time when a lot of bands seenm to be doing cover songs, I love the originality of the lyrics. It makes me smile every time i listen to it.
