Who I Am Hates Who I've Been Lyrics - Relient K

Review The Song (17)

I watched the proverbial sunrise
Coming up over the Pacific and
You might think I'm losing my mind,
But I will shy away from the specifics...

'cause I don't want you to know where I am
'cause then you'll see my heart
In the saddest state it's ever been.

This is no place to try and live my life.

[Pre-Chorus]
Stop right there. That's exactly where I lost it.
See that line. Well I never should have crossed it.
Stop right there. Well I never should have said
That it's the very moment that
I wish that I could take back.

[Chorus]
I'm sorry for the person I became.
I'm sorry that it took so long for me to change.
I'm ready to be sure I never become that way again
'cause who I am hates who I've been.
Who I am hates who I've been.

I talk to absolutely no one.
Couldn't keep to myself enough.
And the things bottled inside have finally begun
To create so much pressure that I'll soon blow up.

I heard the reverberating footsteps
Synching up to the beating of my heart,
And I was positive that unless I got myself together,
I would watch me fall apart.

And I can't let that happen again
'cause then you'll see my heart
In the saddest state it's ever been.

This is no place to try and live my life.

[Pre-Chorus x2]
[Chorus]

Who I am hates who I've been
And who I am will take the second chance you gave me.
Who I am hates who I've been
'cause who I've been only ever made me...

So sorry for the person I became.
So sorry that it took so long for me to change.
I'm ready to be sure I never become that way again
'cause who I am hates who I've been.
Who I am hates who I've been.

My Theme Song | Reviewer: Dezi S. | 10/9/13

I first heard this song when I was in sixth grade, and I've been in love with it ever since. Whenever I'm going through a rough time, this is the song I run to; the song that comes to mind. I start to hum it or sing it and my tears turn to joy because of God's forgiveness. I will never ever be the person I was and this song is literally speaking my heart. God bless Relient K and God bless everyone.

Great Song | Reviewer: soala | 1/18/12

This is a great song.. Love every song of relient k they are amazing.. This reminds me of me a few months ago, I don't want to be the person I used to be... I've changed a lot... I used to be drunk every weekend, smoke, go clubbing.. But i felt something was missing.. One day (i was hangover), I decided I wanted to change, once and for all... So here I am, 6 months after.. Sober each day of those 6 months.. I'm a triathlete now.. I'm working on my dream of becoming a role model for other people and being a great human being..One that I'm proud of and one that my parents are proud of :) (just wanted to share this with whoever reads this)...Sorry for my english..

sun rise over the Pacific? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/18/10

This is an amazing song, I love it!

There is however, one problem. Does the first line really say that the singer watched the sun rise over the Pacific? Relient K is an American band. To watch the sun rise over the Pacific you have to be standing in Asia: It rises in the east. The sun rises over the Atlantic in America.

Awesome, No pun intended | Reviewer: Sara | 10/12/10

Wow! I always have loved the lyrics to this song. I love how reflective they are, and they're very strong too.

I've listened to this song since it came out, and not until I looked it up on iTunes did I realize this song was Christian. I consider myself agnostic, and I'm usually not all that chill with listening to religious music, but the way this song has double meanings makes me appreciate subtle Christian punk! When the lyrics don't plain out say "I Love God," but are still religious, you can tell it's a good band!

This is my new theme song.
I'm trying to live for God now.
I've done horrible stuff in my past.
I've made out with one of my best friend's lovers.
I refuse to go back to that person anymore.
Two days, one hour and 28 minutes was when I slipped up.
No more.
Jesus is my One.

non existant | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/22/10

This is my favourite song, and it has been for awhile. I go to a catholic school and we have to pick a song that relates to our relationship with God. I picked this song, although I don't have much faith in Him.

Is it silly that this song made me cry? I'm sorry God... I hate who I've been. I want 2010 to be the year I take a stand for you, Im gonna live for you Jesus. I don't want to look in the mirror and be ashamed anymore.

Sad Memories | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/25/09

My boyfriend and I broke up yesterday. All I can think of is this song. He told me I changed. I would do anything to change back and get a second chance. He said I had a second chance but I ruined it.

I'm sorry baby that I put you through so much stuff and you put up with it.

It really is just a perfect song. | Reviewer: m e l i s s a ! | 7/1/08

This song is really remarkable--all their songs are. I love the way they create messages in their songs that about everybody can relate to but also has a double meaning which relates to their faith in God. It's really amazing that they aren't afraid to express their faith in any of their songs. They have a God given gift, OH YES. :3 Lol. (:(:
