Aretha Franklin Who's Zoomin' Who Lyrics

Last updated: 04/12/2009 11:00:00 AM

You walked in on the sly
Scopin' for love
In the crowd, I caught your eye
You can't hide your stuff

You came to catch
You thought I'd be naive and tame
You met your match
I beat you at your own game

Who's zoomin' who, take another look, tell me baby
Who's zoomin who...oh
Who's zoomin' who, now the fish jumped off the hook
Didn't I baby...Who's zoomin' who (repeat)

Guess you believed the world
Played by your rules
Here stands an experienced girl
Nobody's fool...

Don't speculate
you thought you had me covered, but
I've got your bait
You're bound to be my lover...oh

You think you're smooth
That you can pickand choose
When the time is right...
But, just look behind, you'll be surprised to find
I'm gonna make you mine tonight...oh

I always thought she was saying "Who's whomin whom?" as in who's telling whom to use the word whom over who. Ha? Anywhoms...I belive Anita Baker could pull this song off with great finesse. She would make sound like pure milk chocolate and velvet landscapes. Her signature jerky dance moves would add her unique mysterious quality to the song. I am going to write to her and request that she do this tune. you should do the smae if you agree with me.

As with many popular songs, "Who's Zooming Who" doesn't "read" well. The lyrics are quite sparse and repetitive.
However, in the hands of as elete a performer as Aretha Franklin, the lyrics become assertive, bold and meaningful. This is a great song. I can hardly imagine anyone else performing it, but Aretha has a way of "ruining" songs for others. A fine example of this is "Natural Woman". Not even Carole King who wrote the song can hold a candle to Aretha's version.
