Brad Paisley Whiskey Lullaby (Featuring Alison Krauss) Lyrics

Last updated: 06/01/2011 11:00:00 AM

Whiskey Lullabye (Brad Paisley with Alison Krauss)
(John Randall/Bill Anderson)

She put him out like the burning end of a midnight cigarette.
She broke his heart: He spent his whole life trying to forget.
We watched him drink his pain away, a little at a time,
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind,
Until the night,
Brad and Alison:
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger.
And finally drank away her memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger,
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees.
We found him with his face down in the pillow,
With a note that said: "I'll love her till I die."
And when we buried him beneath the willow,
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby.
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la,
La la la la la la la la,

The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself.
For years and years, she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath.
She finally drank her pain away, a little at a time.
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind.
Until the night,
Alison and Brad:
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger.
And finally drank away his memory.
Life is short, but this time it was bigger,
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees.
We found her with her face down in the pillow,
Clinging to his picture for dear life.
We laid her next to him beneath the willow,
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby.
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la.

La la la la la la la la...La la la la la la laaaa...

sometimes not appropriate | Reviewer: greeniz | 8/7/10

I think this is a very beautiful song that most can relate to, but my daughters father recently commited suicide, and his estranged wife(legally in charge) played this song at his viewing. His family and mine found it grossly inappropriate and with the wounds so fresh and deep---tacky. Played in the right environment, it a very heart felt song

I'm an alcholic whom loves whiskey. I just recently broke up with my GF. I thought we'd be together forever. It's so hard not to do the samething. This song is a rude awaking for me. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Absolutely fantastic. I hope I don't end up under a willow tree...

this song hit me reminds me of my sons father who committed suicide when he was drunk because i wouldn't take him back because he was an alcoholic..and also my boyfriend after that also committed suicide when he was drunk because i broke up with him that night..just in 2006 for both..this song really makes me think of them..its an amazing song though and sad

Alcoholism | Reviewer: | 11/26/07

My ex-husband is an alcoholic and that's why we divorced; his drinking caused a lot of pain and I can picture him dying from the alcohol. We never stopped loving each other though and that's why this song hits me so hard. Cuz the day he dies, I might just lose myself too and want to be buried next to him underneathe the willow.

Love it | Reviewer: Cody Phillips | 11/18/07

Well this song hits me REALLY hard i have almost killed my self over getting dumped by my gf cuz she is the only 1 i really loved with all my heart and i want her to be my wife and have my kids but i was so close to killing myself. It was a close call.

Very true | Reviewer: blue | 10/30/07

i recently lost a gf of 3 years...she broke up with me, i did nothing wrong but long distance hurts, especially if your in the military. This song really expresses how her and i both feel still, and like, it makes me want to cry ,sometimes people try to drink their pain away and end up dying hate dying alone, i love this woman so dang much, and id hate to see her hurt...

It grabs and won't let go... | Reviewer: MKWATTY | 10/12/07

Country legend Bill Anderson, the composer of the song, said that he had a hard time finding anyone to record it. Hearing Brad and Alison's perfect styling, makes that hard to believe. This is both a haunting song of lost love and an anthem for an almost-universal longing. I've played and picked country and folk since the early sixties and sometimes a song just jumps out, grabs you, and never lets go. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you know you've found something very special. This is one of those rare, beautiful, heartfelt songs.
