Wheels Lyrics - Foo Fighters

Review The Song (12)

I know what you're thinkin'
We were goin' down
I can feel the sinkin'
But then I came around

And everyone I've loved before
Flashed before my eyes
And nothin' mattered anymore
I looked into the sky

Well I wanted something better man
I wished for something new
And I wanted something beautiful
And wish for something true
Been lookin' for a reason man
Something to lose

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

Know your head is spinnin'
Broken hearts will mend
This is our beginning
Comin to an end

Well, you wanted something better man
You wished for something new
Well, you wanted something beautiful
Wished for something true
Been lookin' for a reason man
Something to lose

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)
When the wheels touch ground (When the wheels touch ground)
And you feel like it's all over
There's another round for you
When the wheels come down (When the wheels come down)

Grohl--always positive | Reviewer: Also Anonymous | 3/2/14

Just wanted to add that Grohl's lyrics always seem very positive. I don't know if he is writing about KC, but he always seems to be writing to him (I am presupposing KC really had the persona that was assigned to him by news reports, I guess. Gloomy or not, I must add that I love Cobain.) I am looking up lyrics to sing to a depressed musician, an old friend of mine who hails from an era before Dave Grohl. Any suggestions? Wheels sounds a dab too vague for this purpose.

This song is for Obama | Reviewer: Don Juan | 11/20/12

When I listened carefully to the lyric, I suspected about it, but now I'm almost sure: this song was first shown in public in the White House in front of Obama.
I think this song is for him, if you read the lyric, you'll see that it's in first person singular, then in second person, and then in plural.
I'm not an english speaker so I don't get it totally but some parts of the song made me think that this theory had sense. I'd appreciate if someone can confirm or dismiss my interpretation.

Heard it million times now I think I understand | Reviewer: Sinner | 9/12/12

Even though this song sounds uplifting I am sure that it is about breaking up with someone you loved very much and realizing how much, after it's too late. There is part when he sings in first person
"Well I wanted something better man
I wished for something new "

Then there is part where it is in third person:
"Well, you wanted something better man
You wished for something new "

As if he is sitting with his buddy in the pub drinking and telling him how much he misses her and regrets that he broke up with her and he just saying what it was all about.

I think everyone know how tormenting can it be.

I believe this song was written at the time when Dave had seperated from his now wife because he was scared of the committment but when Taylor Hawkins ended off in hospital it made him realise life was too short and the song is about him realising this and deciding to make a go of it with his now wife. The wheels coming down could be his anticipation of landing in the airport to see her again after this decision. This is my opinion :)

Obama obviously | Reviewer: tom mcloughlin | 5/28/11

If the timing is right then it's the end of the establishment of the American Republic, with the first fusion president black and white, given a trillion dollar debt in slavery. The Foos were on West Wing series one. No, correction, it was a later series, perhaps the election of the latino guy in the later series. Got it mixed having dipped into the DVDs again lately and on YouTube re Foo

Personal Interpretation | Reviewer: Mike | 10/21/10

I'm not sure what it is about this song, but it is very uplifting. I think it's one of those songs that pretty much says that no matter whats going wrong at the time everything will work out. And I absolutely love the way the lyrics are sung.

The way I view the song is that no matter what happens in life, everything will turn out ok in the end. Things WILL GET BETTER. I mean, it seems to me like it's almost a spiritual awakening, where you go from being depressed and hating life to realizing that life will go on and that you need to seize every opportunity you can and open every door to pull yourself out of that slump. I also saw it as a song about a relationship gone bad, and even though both people are broken, the one singing is slowly starting to realize that even when the relationship is over, things will get better, and life will go on. I have gone through a (painful) breakup recently and this song honestly helps me because of how uplifting it is. It's almost as if this song tells a story.

I thoughts are that the song is about relatinoships in general and particularly the point in the relationship best described in the the "the beginning come to an end".
I see this line along with the rest of the song describing that the flying or freedom is over within a particular relationship and with the wheels coming down, or landing, it is a moment when work and effort is required to make that relationship stay strong.

Dave Grohl is his own person. His whole life hardly gravitates around something that happened more than ten years ago.

I'm actually glad that there's no more Nirvana... (Which, despite the death of Kurt Cobain, would eventually end up happening in my opinion.) I think that Foo Fighters are an overall better band.

This is just my opinion anyways, I certainly have fond memories of listening to Nirvana in my teen days, and enjoy their music every once in a while.

In the end, this is a very good song...!

Nirvana was great band. It's been said many times that Dave Grohl's songs are about Kurt. What happened was a long time ago. He's got to be over that by now. Foo Fighters was not formed in and for the memory of Kurt Cobain. Sorry to vent. Only a handful of people will read this anyway. Good song. I didn't think about landing planes "when the wheels come down." Interesting.

I dont think this song has anything to do with Kurt Cobain. I think it has more to do with rohl himself and his wife possibly... Maybe a point in time where they thought because of Grohls career choice she couldnt live on with him not being around maybe thinking of splitting up.
"When the wheels come down" and etc, I think thats Grohl referring to plane rides home when he finally sees her again, and both and her and Dave himself know that they couldnt live without each other properly even more if they did split up. Just my thoughts though.

I like this song personally. I think it's about kurt cobain and courtney love, and the death of kurt cobain and the way dave was feeling when kurt died and i know what dave was feeling becasue i heard from my friend leslie last year about kurt and her dead uncle... I still listen to nirvana every day and think about the life that kurt had with courtney and his baby girl francis bean cobain. It's still sad because of his death and some people don't even know that nirvana was even around but i know they were around and i love kurt cobian and nirvana.
