Wet Sand Lyrics - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review The Song (37)

My shadow side so amplified
Keeps coming back dissatisfied
Elementary son but it's so...

My love affair with everywhere
Was innocent why do you care
Someone start the car
Time to go...you're the best I know

My sunny side has up and died
I'm betting that when we collide
The universe will shift into a low

The travesties where we have seen
Are treating me like Benzedrine
Automatic laughter from a pro

My what a good day
For a walk outside
I'd like to get to know
You a little better baby
God knows that I really tried

My what a good day
For a take out bride
I'd like to say we
Did it for the better of

I saw you there so unaware
Those hummingbirds all in your hair
Elementary son but it's so

The disrepair of Norma Jean
Could not compare to your routine

Balarama beauty
Going toe to toe

My what a good day
For a let it slide
I'd like to say we did it for the better of

I thought about it
And I brought it out
I'm motivated by the lack of doubt
I'm consecrated but I'm not devout
The mother the father the daughter

Right on the verge just one more dose
I'm traveling from coast to coast
My theory isn't perfect but it's close

I'm almost there why should I care
My heart is hurting when I share
Someone open up and
Let it show

My what a good day
For a walk outside
I'd like to think we did it for the better of

I thought about it
And I brought it out
I'm motivated by the lack of doubt
I'm consecrated but I'm not devout
The mother the father the daughter

You don't form in the wet sand
You don't form at all
You don't form in the wet sand
I do Yeah
You don't form in the wet sand
You don't form at all
You don't form in the wet sand
I do

I bought a magazine that had an interview with the band just before SA was released and as part of it Kiedis explained what some of the songs meant and I'll always remember this one. He said it depicts an argument between a creationist and someone who believes in evolution, "you don't form in the wet sand, you don't form at all" being the creationist side etc "my theory isn't perfect but it's close" being the evolution side. So there you go, from the horse's mouth. Love this song :)

I tried to fix the lyrics (this version has some mistakes), but it says that I already submitted them once (which I didn't), so here's the lyrics I tried to submit:

-------------------------------

My shadow's side so amplified
Keeps coming back dissatisfied

My love affair with everywhere
Was innocent, why do you care?

The mother, the father, the daughter- Oh

You don't form in the wet sand,
You don't form at all- Whoa
You don't form in the wet sand,
I do
Yeah...
You don't form in the wet sand,
You don't form at all- Whoa
You don't form in the wet sand,
I do!
YEAH!!!

-------------------------------

That being said, this is a beautiful song. The ending is awesome... I wish there was another word to describe it, because "awesome" just isn't enough. This is without a doubt my favorite song ever, and I can't believe it wasn't a single.

Thank you for reading.

The most beautifulest song in the world | Reviewer: uzodinma | 11/6/10

I just realised why i was born - to experience the beauty of the song called wet sand - the beautifulest thing ever invented by man...and the ending sequence indeed drives me more insane with every listen

You dont form in the wet sand but i do becos i am carrying you as i walk on d sand, there's only one set of footprints and they are mine cos u are in my arms

Or maybe its just because ur not here and i am walking alone in the sand, its a good day for a walk outside and i'd like to get to know u better but sadly ur not here and am walkin alone, my shadow side so amplified cos theres no one beside me, and am forming in the wet sand while ur so far away

or maybe u are indeed walking with me on the coast but ur closer to the water than i am so the tides come in and wash away your footprints before they can make much of an impression in the wet sand, but mine stays intact cos the tides cant reach them, its funny dat we'r walking together and the tides always manage to stop at ur footprints, hardy reaching mine, and years later when am back on that stretch of sand, all alone , there would be no evidence that u once walked these sands with me and all i'd be left with are the memories of the times we shared together

Or maybe its just becos we'r so different, ur consecrated but am not devout. Ur the best i know and i bet that when we collide, the universe will shift into an all time low

my sunny side has up and died -d best part of me is gone, I saw you there so unaware, those hummingbirds all in ur hair, i will travel from coast to coast just to get another sniff, one more of you

My theories above may not be perfect but they are Goddamn close, truth is i do not attempt to define the song, no one, not even RHCP can successfully do that becos the words mean so many different things to me and other people and thats what makes it a unique masterpiece, open to interpretation, take from it what you will

One thing is certain though, i'd rather die than not have wet sand

Shout out to Aspanu my brother and kiwi my sweet little black bird, this song was written for you

Unimaginable. | Reviewer: Alex | 3/4/10

This song is so far beyond such thoughts we base off of on a regular day to day basis. Keidis expresses his feelings and thoughts through everything in which he does. this song is particularly about him feeling the regret from not treating his true love like she deserved. He realizes that ["the best i know"] is someone he doesn't want to lose now that the relationship is over. when he says "You don't form in the wet sand" He is referring to her being so unique and different than all of his previous "loves" and how she doesn't just fit in with the regular and the rest, although he does, and he is not deserving. I also have read "Scar Tissue" I recomend it more than any other. anthony Kiedis' book infact changed my life.

Soo amazing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/28/10

I luv dis song soo much its was just well good. A mate in ma class just swirched it on , on ma i pod coz he thought i didnt listen to good music and i fell in love with it and listen to it all the time! xx

I just figure out | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/1/09

I think the song is about a relationship that's over, so in the end, he finally realizes that was his fault and feel regrets, the last part "you dont form in the wet sand" i guess its about he recognizing you cant treat someone you really love as if it were just another "affair", specially if she is "the best you know" and also loves you and does her best for "forming" a very stable, long and formal relastionship while you "form" it with the fragility of the "wet sand" as if you wouldnt care, but in the end you realize how much you care.

Scar Tissue | Reviewer: Jordan | 2/22/09

"My love affair with everywhere was innocent why do you care?"

The lyrics in their songs are so deep in meaningful, but sometimes confusing. I've just finished reading "Scar Tissue", Anthony Kiedis' autobiography. Any real fans out there who want insight into their music should definitely read it.

speechless... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/12/09

there are no words to desrcribe this song. i hear people say bands like oasis know how to right songs. Their music is hollow. I'm glad there aren't many bands (if any) like RHCP because we wouldn't be able to appreciate them in all their glory.
much love

RHCP wet sand! | Reviewer: frusciante fan | 10/12/08

OMG!!! THE BEST SONG EVER!!!xD With these lyrics, Anthony made this song sooo beautiful! It makes you think about life...And John has made the ending so powerfull, that you have to listen to it at least 10000000 times just to feel it!!!AWESOME!!!GO RHCP!

amazing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/6/08

this song is simply amazing. from guitar (frusciante's god), to bass, to drums, to the amazing/odd lyrics. there's no words to describe how amazing this band is. Stadium Arcadium is definately one of their best works, next to "by the way".
Frusciante, chad, flea, and kiedis are the shit.

amazing | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/25/08

Love this song. Definitely one of the best from the album. Best guitar work on the whole album...Frusciante simply rocks. Like a lot of RHCP's lyrics, not quite sure what the song means, but I like that it's open to interpretation. I can't think of any other band around today that's has honestly emotive as RHCP- there's plenty of fake sentimentality in modern rock, but RHCP's music drips with it throughout.

wet sand | Reviewer: lana | 1/13/08

this song is so incredible, i love how it starts as one thing but ends completely different. anthony kiedis's lyrics are beautiful,in a crazy RHCP way- love it, and the red hot chili peppers

Magic | Reviewer: Franz | 12/11/07

I thought there was something strange going on inside my head because I could not stop listening to the peppers all the time to the point that even my own family would make fun of me (it has been quite some time now), but I understand now that it has gotten the same effect in everyone of you, so I was not wrong, THEY ARE A GREAT BAND and this song is probably the most intense I have ever heard from them. Thank you all for sharing your feelings and opinions, everybody is right about them and that is magic. Thank you RHCP.
