My Chemical Romance Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics

Last updated: 01/14/2014 05:23:10 AM

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
to see a marching band

He said son when you grow up
Would you be the saviour of the broken
The beaten and the damned?
He said will you
Defeat them
Your demons
And all the non-believers,
the plans that they have made?

Because one day
I'll leave you
To lead you in the summer
To join The Black Parade

When I was-a young boy
My father
Took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said son when you grow up
Would you be
The saviour of the broken
The beaten and the damned?

Sometimes I get the feeling
She's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all
The rise and fall
The bodies in the streets
And when you're gone we want you all to know

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on

And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it

A world that sends you reeling
From decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all

So paint it black
And take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call

To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches

On and on we carry through the fears
Disappointed faces of your peers
Take a look at me
'Cause I could not care at

Do or die
You'll never make me
Because the world
Will never take my heart
Go and try
You'll never break me
We want it all
We wanna play this part

I won't explain
Or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed
I'm gonna show my scar
Give a cheer
For all the broken
Listen here
Because it's who we are

I'm just a man
I'm not a hero
Just a boy
Who had to sing this song
I'm just a man
I'm not a hero

We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on

this song is beautiful in every way. some people i know believe in the black parade (a place where you go when you die) and they say emos only believe in that?!?! BS, i believe in the black parade .the more you think about it the more real it is. This band saved my life and who ever does NOT like MCR can stick a gun in your mouth and pull the trigger.

I Must Be Dead | Reviewer: PHOENIXRISE | 3/23/13

This song had meant the world to me. All of their songs do. The band was a reason I could force myself out of bed in the morning and face my hell of a school everyday, to face cruel girls and condescending teachers and even some very controlling adults who try to make me into someone I'm not and make my life a living hell. To find out that this band is DONE was like getting shot in the heart. I feel like I'm dead. I feel like my life is over. And this doesn't mean that I'm gonna stop listening to them. It doesn't mean I'm giving up on their music. But what it DOES mean is that I will NEVER see them in concert. That I will NEVER get to meet them and tell them they saved my life. It means that the only friends I had are gone. I completely understand that Gerard's a dad now and he needs to take care of his daughter. I understand that not everything can last forever. But when his band said "until the end of everything" (Demolition Lovers) I really believed it. I really needed to believe it. I needed something stable to hold on to, I needed someone who understood, who MORE than understood. Yesterday was the worst school day of my life, and last night was one of my greatest nights ever. I got an hour gig to preform my songs for a room full of people. I even covered this song because I freaking love this band. But now EVERYTHING is over. I must be dead. I must be having the worlds suckiest nightmare. This world can hate me and shun me and insult everything I believe in. But it just CAN'T take this band away from me. From us. From the people who NEED this band because they don't have anyone else.

I'm still here.... | Reviewer: Lauren | 9/12/12

It's Lauren. It's not an energy I have I don't think
It's more like a goal. I don't have much of a chance of cancer according to my doctor, but you never know. I didn't really understand this song during my first review. Now I'll give it to you straight. This song made my thoughts wander a bit. "we'll carry on," mean a lot more to me now than ever. Tragedies will happen, but you have to march through it with your head up, and at least have your heart in the right place. Knowing my only fear in life is judgement, I'm going to work until I make my way trough it. It has already helped me through rough times at home, the song I mean. I've made some huge mistakes, even though I don't even have twenty years under my belt. But this song has made me realize, these are the times to make mistakes and screw everything up! This is what humans do, but mcr has made it loud and clear to the oblivious. I can't express how much I really appreciate that.

I hate all the people that say MCR encourages death and suicide. Honestly, this band saves lots of lives. And though I love all of their songs, if it weren't for this song and the rest of the black parade album, I severely doubt me living to sit here and type this. I love MCR because they honestly are supportive and inspiring and their music will always be here for me. I could not thank them enough for giving me my strength, it is priceless. Thank you MCR.

omg...!!!! i love this song. i just wish i kould meet them in person.. haha in my dreams. i know every single word to this song, even my mom likes it. sh's not the type of person that listens to this kind of music. i really love it i can let myself be who i really am (:

beautiful | Reviewer: tunetraveller | 1/20/12

This song is not about committing suicide, and it is not about fighting death either. It is about accepting death. Death happens to everyone. It is not for us to inflict upon ourselves or each other. We do not get to choose when or how it comes, and most people would not choose it. When someone you love dies, there's nothing else that can be done. You have to accept it and carry on. Don't worry, it may take a while, but one day when the edge of grief has worn down, the memories of those people will bring you more happiness. It may hurt to lose them, but it will be alright. Be brave. They don't want to see you sad any more than you want to see them go.
That's the message of this song.

MCR | Reviewer: Mackenzie | 1/12/12

without this band I would probably be dead right now. When I felt like it was too much effort to even breath their songs gave me the strength to carry on. MCR saved my life...more than once

I also forgot to mention that in their song, "Bulletproof Heart," Gerard sings, "Gravity/Don't mean too much to me/I'm who I've got to be!"
Again, not encouragement of suicidal thoughts, but rather a call to rebel against ('gravity') all the things that weigh you down.

Another song, "Thank You For The Venom," states, "So give me all your poison/And give me all your pills/And give me all your hopeless hearts and make me ill!" The first time I heard this, I did wonder about what its meaning was. After all, how many MCR songs have all of their meaning laid out automatically? However, it seems that the singer's character is trying to sacrifice himself to heal the broken.

RE: shadow | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/31/11

Mr. Shadow, your view is simply not correct. You say that the band did terrible things to Hannah. However, their songs are mostly against suicide. For example on 'Famous Last Words', the chorus states, "I am not afraid to keep on living/I am not afraid to walk this world alone/Honey if you stay I'll be forgiven/Nothing you can say could stop me going home!"
You say she is damned, burning in hell. I say 'What could we have done to save her?' Have you ever lain awake at night hating yourself? DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE? Until you do, DON'T JUDGE ANY OF US!
This song says, 'We'll carry on/And though you're dead and gone believe me/Your memory will carry on!'

To Shadow | Reviewer: Rose | 12/9/11

like Maya said, I'm sorry for your loss. But My chemical romance wasn't the cause of Hana's death. If you really listen to the lyrics when ever they talk about death they use it as a metaphor or saying that "you might leave but really think about what it really means to be living this world, and your more than good enough for it".
My Chemical Romance [ROCKS!!] only saves your life if you listen to the lyrics and understand them and connect to them.

brings a tear to my eye :') | Reviewer: tommy | 11/3/11

this song means so much to me as i lost the best person in my life and i promised her il let nothing happen to her but listening to this song and it reminds me she is still alive aslong as i keep remembering her

To Shadow | Reviewer: Maya | 10/13/11

Two things:
One) I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I understand you lost somebody, how much that hurts, and how much you want answers. However, and that leads me to, Two) This band saves lives. I'm living proof. If not for My Chemical Romance's song Famous Last Words, it is very likely I would currently not be alive.
So while I can sympathize with your loss and understand your need to find an explanation for your friends suicide, I do feel the need to assert my belief that, no matter your opinion, My Chemical Romance, nor was Welcome To The Black Parade, the cause for it.
