I know it's supposed to be a fun song (I think), but when he talks about the wheel locking up and nearly killing them all, I think back to my own roll-over car accident; idk how we all walked out of that one (though I didn't walk out, so much as I was carried out strapped to a gurney kicking and screaming before being sedated and airlifted) but my passengers were uninjured and I got some glass in my arm, we were soooo lucky. When he sings that they should've died a long time ago, I just feel like he wrote this song about my life.

I loved this sweet, happy song when it first came out. It felt so lighthearted. A few months later, 9-11 happened and the song started to sound wistful and nostalgic to me, yet always remained among my favorite songs to play and to play on guitar. The Spike Jonze video makes it feel light and sweet again.

I just was sent this song by someone. For me it is about a guy having sex with a girl and she cares about him but the guy doesn't know what he wants and wants to chase other butterfly's (women). He feels bad for what he did since he wanted casual sex but he really hurt the girl who genuinely cared about him.

First off, the lyrics to this song are beautiful. Quite an amazing song, all in all. It's very complex. As an album, Pinkerton is largely about sex and romance, both of which are largely unrequited. I also think it's about how an intellectual views sexuality (Cuomo being a Harvard grad and all). This is an age where premarital sex is viewed as basically a reality, but Cuomo seems caught up between eroticism and sexuality on some songs ("The Good Life" in particular) and the want for something more meaningful and spiritual ("Why Bother", "Across the Sea", "Tired of Sex"). I think this song is in one sense a reflection on how shallow one-night stands and rampant eroticism are, and how harmful they can be. On the other, I do think it's also about youth, the first stanza seems to me not a metaphor but a parallel. In an innocent act of catching a butterfly, Cuomo damaged something sacred and beautiful. I feel the first stanza is about that childish carelessness which many a young man has with other young women with whom he has had casual sex, and the song is Cuomo's reflection on his actions as a young man as an older and more mature person, and subsequent apology for his childishness.

This song is obviously about a gang of some sort attacking a young couple or something along those lines. "Bang, Bang! Theres a knock on the door, another big bang. Get down on the floor."

It seems that at first they think they are going to die together and profess their love for one another by saying even through death love prevails. Then at the end of the song it seems that they are running away and the man obviously looses his shoe and the woman is reacting to being attacked hence him asking "Whats the matter with you?"

Idk thats my take on it. I've listen to this song since the Blue Album came out and i've never really got it. It seems to be a very cryptic song that Rivers Cucomo wrote and probably thought sounded similar to Buddy Holly's style.

This song makes me think of my greatest friend. We've been friends for about 3 years already and I know there's many more. We really do have a friendship like no other. We love each other, but we're friends first. Its great. He's the most amazing person I know and I couldn't ask for a better friend.

Weezer brings so many different emotions about love and relationships into a song like only in dreams it really is amazing. for those looking for a literal meaning to this song, its about a crush... we all want the courage to ask that special someone in our lives for that one chance... i have always wondered why rivers sings about lost opportunity in some of the songs he has done.. but this song rocks! especially the ending solo.. amazing.
