Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Wasted on the Way Lyrics

Last updated: 03/11/2013 01:14:37 PM

(Words & music by Graham Nash)

Look around me
I can see my life before me
Running rings around the way
It used to be

I am older now
I have more than what I wanted
But I wish that I had started
Long before I did

Chorus
And there's so much time to make up
Everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way

So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away

Oh when you were young
Did you question all the answers
Did you envy all the dancers
Who had all the nerve

Look round you NOW
You must go for what you wanted
Look at all my friends who did and got what they deserved

Chorus
So much time to make up
Everywhere you turn
Time we have wasted on the way

So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away

So much love to make up
Everywhere you turn
Love we have wasted on the way

So much water moving
Underneath the bridge
Let the water come and carry us away

Let the water come and carry us away

just love this song. | Reviewer: Marisa | 3/9/13

My mother had introduced me to the music of CSN. Many times I went to see them and they did this song, and I fell in love. My mom introduced me to Graham Nash and I loved him too. He's a great song writer and ultrasmart. I always suspected thatvhe had written this song. Thanks for giving me confirmation. The sentiments in this song are very true. You have to go for what you want and stop wasting time.

I've always enjoyed the song although I never really knew what it was about. Then I heard it after I had some time in recovery and I Realized it's clearly about getting clean and sober...starting life with a new perspective. If theres one thing I regret it's all the years I wasted on drugs and alcohol. Today,I have more than what I wanted but,I wish that I had started long before I did.

Neat song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/6/08

Somewhat sappy, but still, it becomes more meaningful the older I get. I think overall it's a rather bittersweet song in the vein of "Teach your children." I've always wondered if there was some irony meant in the lyric " . . . go for what you wanted -- look at all my friends who did and got what they deserve."
