Wasn't Born To Follow Lyrics
Artist(Band):The Byrds
Review The Song (5)Print the Lyrics
Written by Carol King and Gerry Goffin

Oh I'd rather go and journey
Where the diamond crescent's glowing and
Run across the valley
Beneath the sacred mountain
And Wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms
And break the light in colors
That no-one knows the names of
And when it's time I'll go and wait
Beside a legendary fountain
Till I see your form reflected
In its clear and jeweled waters
And if you think I'm ready
You may lead me to the chasm
Where the rivers of our vision
Flow into one another
I will watch her dive beneath
The white cascading waters
She may beg she may plead
She may argue with her logic
And then mention all the things I'll lose
That really have no value
In the end she will surely know
I wasn't born to follow

TOP TEN | Reviewer: Surgeman | 7/19/2008

I believe this to be one of the best songs ever recorded, definately in the Top 10. I cannot understand how this song is NOT included on the "Byrd's Greatest Hits."
The only problem with this song is it is TOO SHORT.
FYI, from the movie, "Easy Rider."

Not by Dylan | Reviewer: Matt Gregg | 9/24/2007

Though Dylan was an amazing songwriter, this song was actually written by Carole King and her husband.

The Truth About this Song | Reviewer: freshup | 5/17/2007

WBTF is one of the classic metaphorical sex songs of the hippie-dippie days of yore. Pick a line, close your eyes and imagine: ...diamond crescent's glowing beneath the sacred mountains...you may lead me to the chasm where the rivers of our vision flow into one another...
Carol King wrote this, not BD.

Dylan masterpiece! | Reviewer: Andrew C. Hynds | 5/24/2006

Always thought this song by The Byrds (wrote by Bob Dylan) was a masterpiece, and captured the late 60's perfectly.

65 memories | Reviewer: mike doering | 4/17/2006

I first listened to this song when I left high school, the summer of 65. Or thereabouts. It was the beginning of a complete change in direction which eventually became the "counterculture".
