can you hear the desperate cries that are calling out your name?
twisting your arms, holding out their hands
and tugging at your sleeve,
do you feel this underlying sense of urgency
or are you as blind as me?
I hit the ground and I'm still running
but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning
I just need somewhere now
I can't bear the thought of losing,
I dread the attention winning brings
and ever since the day I came here
I can stand without your strings
I'm so sick of all these people
but I'm scared to be alone
and if this life has taught me anything
I forgot it long ago and so I
hit the ground and I'm still running
but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning
I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
hit the bridge and I'm still running
but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning
I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
the heart is something you can't control
we either choose to follow or be left on our own
so we're leaving here on a less-traveled road
as our desperate cries grow louder,
I know we're getting close, getting close
And so I hit the ground and I'm still running
but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning
I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes
hit the bridge and I'm still running
but I need a place to stay tonight,
I swear I'll be gone in the morning
I just need somewhere warm to close my eyes

Review about Voices Off Camera Hit the Bridge | Reviewer: Dennis | 8/7/09
i really dont know why nobody noticed that it says i hit the 'bridge'!?
but in the songs tim sings another time: and so i hit the ground...
by the way...
if you say: its hardcore not punk, then your a dumbass because even when hardcore is a subgenre of punk its still punk...
cheers

The singer's voice sounds completely different in this song than all of his other songs - I would know it's him, but he takes a different tone than any of the other songs.
As to what the genre is, who cares? I have honestly never heard any other songs like this - rather, that sound like this.

Tim chose the "less traveled road" because he decided to follow his heart, as it says in the song. Even though he doesn't exactly enjoy the attention of being in a band he believes it is for the greater good to spread his message.
This part means he believes that he is getting close to reaching all of the people he wants to hear his lyrics and meanings.
such a great bad, stupid comments | Reviewer: david | 3/1/09
danm it guys!! seriously, almost every post on rise aginst´s songs are the same:
a)If the song is emo or not
b)What gender the band is
can´t you think about it a little bit more? they give their hearth on their songs, the lyrics are amazing and express things that most people think but they have never expressed it.
Rise Against is my favorite band ever, and I agree that you guys want to know wxactly the details from the band but think about it and don´t use their songs to star a debate!
By the way awesome song, even though it may have several meanings I feel like it really fits me!
This one is for Tyler.
It is clearly rock? Well that sure explains why Tim himself calls the band Melodic Punk Rock/Melodic hardcore, now doesn't it? Dumb shit. Maybe you should actually LEARN about these things before you go and be a complete imbecile to someone, yes?
And To Leanne, who i have nothing against :P
Yes, they are Punk. But i don't think that they have one song which is actually Old School Punk, not even close really. I mean, Rise Against can actually play their instruments, and are fucking good at it. Whereas, older punk bands were just fucking around with it and just having a good time :) So yeah, Rise Against is Punk Rock. And that covers Melodic Punk Rock, Hardcore Punk etc, so don't bite my head off haha
And to everyone else. Why can't a band make their OWN genre? Hey, if Rise Against started calling themselves techno i would still fucking listen to their music and respect them, so what's the deal? And also, this song rules so much, as does every other Rise Against song to date. Sorry i took up so much room, i am a bored 14 year old, what do you expect?! :P
Rise against kicks ass | Reviewer: Punk'd | 6/22/08
Rise against is not punk...rise against is hardcore (a sub genre of punk) ...and actually I don't really care ...i mean what's the difference? This band is fucking AWESOME , i don't care if they are punk, hardcore etc
dumb people | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/29/08
Rise Against is Melodic Hardcore/Punk/Harcore... This band is awesome and this song in my eyes is teh singer, Tim Mcilrath, talking about the hardships of travelling...
"I'm so sick of all these people
but I'm scared to be alone"
To me this sounds like he hates the attention but he can't stand lying around doing nothing about the problems we have... Good band, great sound, great lyrics!
i've never really considered rise against to be punk. like once you hear old school ramones punk or something like that it doesn't compare. but rise against is my favorite band and this is like my favorite so im not complaining
youre brother then is the jack ass. if he cared to find out he would know that rise against are classified as melodic hardcore. aka an off shoot of hardcore punk, which in turn is an off shoot of punk.
I think the meaning of the song is about people over in Iraq fighting and thewy don't get any sleep becausde of the constant fighting and that the soldier needs a warm home to rest for the night andf go back to battle in the morning.
