In my own words...

I was born 8/16/80 and raised in Mitford, PA by my parents
Ed and Heidi Carlton. My Dad is a pilot (he plays fiddle on
the side), and my mom is a pianist and teacher. My
childhood was unconventional. When I was two I was enrolled
into a Montessori school. I just remember running around
and drawing pictures all the time. Music and art were the
main focuses of my childhood.

My mom was my first music teacher. I suppose the first sign
that I was "musical" came when I figured out "It's A Small
World" on the piano when I was two years old. We had just
returned from Disneyland. After that, my mother began
exposing me to a variety of classical composers, from Eric
Satie, to Mozart, to Debussey. At eight, I wrote my first
piece of music. I wasn't w More...

    Review about Vanessa Carlton

    Beautiful | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song White Houses performed by Vanessa Carlton

This is one of my favorite songs, and I know a lot of songs. I love how Vanessa crafts her words carefully, and how she matches the idea of the song to the tune and rhythm. I'd assume that everyone else's interpretation (call it what you want) is correct. I read somewhere that this was made up, but I think your ideas hit the nail on the head. Didn't know she could dance so well. Carry on. (Half a week before the winter- pun)

------ About the song The Wreckage performed by Vanessa Carlton

It's the perfect hidden track. Making it a hit would take away the beauty and complexity of the song. It's not about the horror of being in a wreck or whatever you all are talking about. She has painted a picture with words. Imagine yourself driving, all alone, on the highway...with nothing to listen to but your thoughts and the rhythm of the engine. Have you ever thought- even for one fleet, passing moment- about how easy it could be to just swerve slightly left.....

I don't even think it's about wanting to end her own life, as I've heard some people say.. it is just a poetic way of capturing those few seconds of panicky, need for control, that many of us have felt at least once or twice.

The True Meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song White Houses performed by Vanessa Carlton

White houses means purity, and she keeps the secrets in "white houses," keeping them pure. she looses her purity, though, when she is with her friends. she gets so caught up in it and doesn't think before her actions. it is a very creative songs with many metaphors.

Hearing This Song in A Whole Different Way | Reviewer: 1luvbaby
------ About the song Ordinary Day performed by Vanessa Carlton

I've heard this song before and felt it's spirituality and sensed a Christian undertone in a way that applies to everyday life. Now that I know the words to this one, I'm going to download it to listen to it for an uplifting experience whenever I begin to lose sight of my dreams in the everyday hussle and grind. See, this is the kind of music that says "I am with you"...even on our ordinary days.

Look death in the face... | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Twilight performed by Vanessa Carlton

To me, this song is about looking death in the face and coming back, or having the one you love die in front of you.
I saw a FFVIII video with this, and it was all the saddest clips.
So of course I start bawling. This song makes me cry, too. I've seen twilight, too.
    I've seen it.

    White houses. . . | Reviewer: Christina
------ About the song White Houses performed by Vanessa Carlton

I think this song is about an intensive dance program she went to, before her music career, and they had like, bunks, or whatever, that were white. Like white houses, where the campers stayed, and during that time, she was with five other girls, and they like, told each other everything, and then she lost her virginity to a guy, during this time.

    Twilight: | Reviewer: Rosaliee
------ About the song Twilight performed by Vanessa Carlton

I think this song is amazing. I sang it for my school talent show. What really got me, was when I first heard it and it made me think of the book "Twilight" and i love those books so much. My name is Rosaliee. Spelled differently, but pronounced the exact same way. That's how I fell in love with the books. I love you vanessa!

    Excellent Song | Reviewer: Delti
------ About the song Twilight performed by Vanessa Carlton

First off, this song came looong before Twilight and is far better (not that that's much of a complement). It has absolutely nothing to do with the book.

Moving along, Vanessa Carlton outdid herself with this song. Her voice and the music itself is absolutely incredible -- in my personal opinion, it is her very best song and did not get the attention it deserves. To me, this song is about being in a dark place in her life and being pulled out by someone to see the world in a new light

------ About the song Who's To Say performed by Vanessa Carlton

Honestly, to say you actually know what this songs means and all that jazz without seeing her live or reading her album, you can't honestly say you know what this song means.
It can mean anything, even the most bizarre planet theory.
    However, it's unlikely.
And Melissa who saw this live, and if she heard the words coming out of Vanessa's own mouth, then I am pretty sure that's the truth.
For we cannot twist Vanessa's words for our own being. It is what is, so accept it.
Sometimes friends do stay forever, perhaps would be there more understanding and supportive than family. People make decisions in life, and sometimes it's family over friends. The traditional way. However, there are some of us who choose Friends over Family. It's taking a risk, but if you really believe in your heart that they will be there for you, then that's all on you, making your own choices and risks in life.
As for love and relationships...Independent choices with you and your significant other; going off and living together is a big risk to take, if you really truly love the person. And being in love, I honestly think it can happen anytime. It could start with infatuation, then childhood best friends, crushes to dating to relationships, long-term relationships, and then love. It takes time. However, you're never too young to love or be in love. That is my opinion, just don't go off and sleep with each other and get the other knocked up, that's not the way love should be, wait until you're able to care for yourselves and then if you are able for another person, then have a baby. (:

Anyway, you probably are all correct. And Melissa saw her live, so if it's love against the government, it's going to take more than just the government to defeat love. Gay lesbian love too. (:
This song is just inspiring and encouraging. I love it. (:

    Gays! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Who's To Say performed by Vanessa Carlton

This song is dedicated to anyone who's ever been repressed by anyone, friends, family, government.

Vanessa even said that this song was one for all her gay fans.

It's about people telling you what you can and can't do, such as how some homophobic families cast out their gay children.

It's a pillar or strength to tell everyone that even when someone doesn't believe in you, you still have someone else who will somewhere in the world.

    Even if it's 'Nessa. (Y)

    She's incredible.

absolutely great! | Reviewer: Jennifer S.
------ About the song White Houses performed by Vanessa Carlton

This song is like no other. I didn't really understand it at first. But now that I can actually relate to what she's talking about makes it 1000 times better. She talks about how she's in some kind of intensive dance program over the summer, With 5 other girls she never meant. And bunks with in a white bungalow. And during that time there she lost her virginity. She thought that it was love like all girls tend to think and did something she regrets. And how she's just going to leave camp with the memories of her 5 friends instead of leaving with the bad regrets of losing her virginity. This song is really gorgeous, I love it soo much. I've listened to it at least 500 times. Lol it has a lot of meaning and it very graceful in its own way. she put a lot into this song. And it came out wonderful. I'm so jealous of vanessa. she really is an artist.

A Song Every Teen Should Hear | Reviewer: Kimberly
------ About the song The Wreckage performed by Vanessa Carlton

This song is an exact thought in someone who is getting into a brutal car crash's mind. A lot of teens think they are invincible when they go out for a drive. But I think every teen should hear this son and really listen to the lyrics because it has taught me a wonderful lesson. You really can picture the wreck in your mind and its a horrible sight. I just want everyone to know that htey need to be careful and take care of themselves.

what are the lyrics? | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Ordinary Day (Divide & Conquer) performed by Vanessa Carlton

i've heard two versions, one with "and if we walk now we will divide and conquer this land" and one with "don't you see all your dreams lie in the palm of your hand" and i want to know which one was written first, or which is which and what the difference is and it's driving me nuts... so this is not that helpful...

Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess | Reviewer: Jasmin
------ About the song Twilight performed by Vanessa Carlton

I just heard this song in a Twilight Princess video. It was interesting and seemed to fit pretty well... from the lyrics though it sounds like the person she's singing to is the one who blinded her, but letting go of that person lets her see the truth. That's just my impression. Anyway, it sounds nice.
