Billy Joel Until The Night Lyrics

Last updated: 10/31/2013 04:37:11 PM

I never ask you where you go
After I leave you in the morning
We go our different ways to separate situations
It's not that easy anymore

Today I do what must be done
I give my time to total strangers
But now it feels as though the day goes on forever
More than it ever did before

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

Now you're afraid that we have changed
And I'm afraid we're getting older
So many broken hearts, so many lonely faces
So many lovers come and gone

I'll have my fears like every man
You'll have your tears like every woman
Today we'll be unsure, is this what we believe in
And wonder how can we go on

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

When the sun goes down
And the day is over
When the last of the light has gone
As they pour into the street
I will be getting closer
As the cars turn their headlights on
As they're closing it down
I'm gonna open it up
And while they're going to sleep
We'll just be starting to touch
I'm just beginning to feel
I'm just beginning to give
I'm just beginning to feel
I'm just beginning to live
Before I leave you again
Before the light of the dawn
Before this evening can end
I have been waiting so long

Until the night, until the night
I just might make it
Until the night, until the night
I'll just keep holding on
Until the night, until the night
When I see you again

The BEST song ever! | Reviewer: LuLu | 10/31/13

Love, love, love this song. It is Billy Joel and his band at their absolute best. I thought the song was about two people in love, but possibly married or committed to other people, hence, "We go our different ways to separate situations...
It's not that easy anymore". Doesn't really matter what the song refers to -- the music and lyrics are great. Everyone interprets songs differently. Thanks.

Simply brilliant | Reviewer: Phil | 5/24/12

No metaphor here - its simply pure passion. Two lovers who can't bear to be without each other, try to stand the daily grind...Until the Night.

Powerful and with a brilliant sax solo, it's one of Billy's finest

DON'T OVERTHINK IT! | Reviewer: Nathan | 2/12/12

@Tom: a metaphor for modern city life? Really? Couldn't it just be about a guy who hates that he can't be with his girlfriend during the day because he's always at work? Not everything has some "deeper meaning."

Treadmill lives | Reviewer: tom | 3/15/11

My favourite Billy Joel song. A metaphor for modern life, especially city life. We are all on the never-ending treadmill, workaday routine, in the persuit of the mighty buck.........but at what cost ? The saxaphone solo is to die for.

A Great Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/16/10

This song may not have been a hit, but I think it is absolutely beautiful. I like the music, and whenever I listen to it, I can't help but to sing along and have the song stuck in my head. If you've never heard it, just listen.
