Under The Knife Lyrics - Rise Against

Review The Song (29)

Wake me up inside
Tell me there's a reason
To take another step
To get up off my knees and,
Follow this path of most resistance.
And where ever it takes us,
Whatever it faces and wherever it leads,

So wake me when it's through,
I don't want to feel the things that you do (the things that you do)
Don't worry I'll be fine
I just don't want this dream, wake me up inside

Something for the pain, just to kill this feeling
Although we looked awake, inside we're all still sleeping
And I spent my time here alive, but barely there
Do you believe we'll ever make it?
Do you think we'll ever really see?

Wake me up inside
These dreams all die if we let them,
Wake me up inside
Today won't start if we just give in.
Don't show me anything!

Just wake me when it's through,
I don't want to feel the things that you do (the things that you do)
Don't worry I'll be fine
I just don't want this dream, wake me up inside

torture | Reviewer: dave | 5/20/13

to me, this has always been about torture. depending on my mood;

i have mostly thought it's about a very special girl.. other times just some poor prisoner going insane under torture.

the surgery thing made me lol (=

self opinion | Reviewer: steven | 6/13/12

I gotta say it's really funny to see you guys arguing about lyrics.. you know, if every lyrics of any song have more than one meaning.. The band wrote the song with a meaning in mind but you may make your own opinion about it.. that's the point of it.. To everyone, it should mean something different.. exept for the surgery thing.. that's really dumb

Just an opinion. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/2/12

A lot of these reviews are about how people found the band and the song. I heard about them from my cousin, but I only just came back and I absolutely love them.

But as for the lyrics, I think it's about someone contradicting his/herself. He talks about not wanting to feel what's going on, but he recognizes that "today won't start if we just give in". He also seems like he wants other people to do all the work, which could be about how everyone wants the world to be better, but nobody does anything about it.

Great song. | Reviewer: Xznathan | 9/1/11

I believe this song is about not just sitting around as our wired is raped and destroyed and actually getting up off our lazy asses and doing something about it, even though it's the hardest path. The narrator would rather be put under while his world is destroyed. But if he is to survive and fight through it, he will need to be woken up and shown exactly what is happening around him, and that all is not lost. Rise Against isn't a band to sing of things as simple as love and heartbreak, and try to send out messages of the crisises happening around us. If they do sing of love, their symbolism is very deep. I don't beleive this is a heartbreak song. Just a desperate inner plea for people to wake up and help the earth.
But that's just my two cents.

No Comparisons | Reviewer: Soulache | 5/8/11

I wouldn't agree on whether agree that Seether is a better band as compared to Rise Against, or Stone Sour. You can't just compare two bands, every band has their own unique style, maybe mash-up influences, but its fresh(and good). A big fan of Seether here, but I am also a big fan of so many more bands. Personally I feel that rock music is my life, and you can't just compare bands. Its like comparing an orange to an apple. You may like orange over apple, but that doesn't mean apple sucks(I love both anyways XD). See the picture now ? Have a nice day, viewers !

Seriously? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/15/11

Most bands write lyrics to express a feeling or view on a certain subject, of course lyrics matter, songs with lyrics that make no sense are just a waste of time. Listen to the Rise Against song 'Hero of War' and then come back and tell me song lyrics don't matter. Good bands have lyrics that educate and help people through good and bad times, saying they don't matter is just an insult. Yes there is area for interpretation but this needs to actually be thought about. The idea that Rise Against would write a song about plastic surgery is just ridiculous.

What ever.. | Reviewer: Jazzy Jeff | 2/8/11

Who gives a rats fat ass about the lyrics? Yes they're meaningful and cool, but they are words in a song. Okay? Rise Agaisnt may write these to give meanings, i don't know, bu can we not just say it's good music? I mean really, there's people swearing their heads and putting their noses up so high that it's more about who has the biggest feather in his hat then the actual song! Get over it. It's a good song, leave it at that.

Rise Against | Reviewer: Melissa | 12/14/10

First of all, Rise Against is a political band. They actually give a shit about what goes on in our country. So yes they do want people to get their lyrics because they're trying to send out a message. They show evidence that this is the case with past videos and even interviews that are coming out on their site. They talk about society in America and the way of life in other countries. Those who are suffering and those who have it easy. This is another brilliant song by a brilliant band. They will always continue to inspire me. Those of you who did't know what this song means didn't do your research and have no right to really criticize.

your all retarded | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/12/10

you are all retarded if you think that rise against and other bands like them honestly care what you think of the lyrics. they use them because thats how they fell and if you like it thats just a bonus.

are you serious? | Reviewer: gordofredito | 10/6/10

plastic surgery? Rise Against is the best Melodic Hardcore band of all time and their lyrics EACH and EVERY of them hits me. This is about a relationship coming to an end, and him knowing it, but without wanting to accept it. Don't take it too literal.
The coolest thing of Rise Against are the damn lyrics

Great song with great meaning | Reviewer: anonymous | 2/26/10

for the people who think it is about plastic surgery, wtf are you thinking, i guess that is a very literal interpretation of what it is about, but if you listen to it with a broken and uncertain heart, you will see it with a whole different meaning

forget about it | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/18/09

guys, who the hell cares what the lyrics mean? its a good song, and you don't see anyone arguing with that. Forget what the damn lyrics mean and just listen to songs for the songs themselves, not to find some secret meaning that Rise Against may or may not intended

come on | Reviewer: Realist | 8/5/09

its about plastic surgery. i think...but its all about everyone's individual interpretation of the song. and by the way, 'never back down' only encourages the gladiator society of ignorant twats who think its the world against them...how sad that is. but don;t take it personally if you like the move, just coz its the internet doesn't mean your a hero. peace

shut up | Reviewer: I. C. Wiener | 2/21/09

Ok for all of you guys, you know this song for one of this three reasons: Either you saw the movie "Never Back Down", or you just saw the paintball video from StealthMedia Productions, about San Diego NPPL, or you just know it because you are a Rise Against fan, and if you are a fan, it's just because you heard one of their songs somewhere, possibly in a video, or in a movie, or in the radio, so don't criticise others just because they know this song from a movie. It's a good song, not my favourite, personally I think Tip the Scales is better, but there are betters bands...For example, Seether is in the same genre and it's a lot better...Stone Sour too...But stop the arguing.
