Under The Bridge Lyrics - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Review The Song (43)

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel like my only friend
Is the city I live in, the city of angels
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I drive on her streets 'cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds and she kisses me windy
I never worried, now that is a lie

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

It's hard to believe that there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe that I'm all alone
At least I have her love, the city she loves me
Lonely as I am, together we cry

I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

red hot chilli peppers/under the bridge | Reviewer: bengalpuss | 10/29/12

This song is about when Kiedis Used to go and score his drugs under a bridge, when his dad user/Dealer didn.t have any. To say he grew up with a junkie dope dealing dad he didn.t do too bad did he!

no way | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/1/12

this song is about killing of all f┬Ącking fools who rule the planet! kill'em all before they'll do to you! think about your children and which kind of planet you gonna let for them?

This is about when he was sober, not using. | Reviewer: Jake | 5/4/11

This song is about how Anthony felt alienated from everybody else during his short stint of being sober when this album came out. He felt like he was all alone, hence him saying things like "it's hard to believe that there's nobody out there, it's hard to believe that I'm all alone." Flea, John, and Chad were all still using and Anthony wasn't, and the only thing he felt close to was his city, Los Angeles, or "the city of angels," where yes, he did do heroin and other drugs under a bridge with his Mexican dealer.

Nope, sorry Dylan | Reviewer: Nathan | 3/31/11

Dylan said that his first time shooting up was under a bridge with a mexican guy. He did shoot up with a mexican dude under a bride in L.A, but his first time was when his dad gave him some at the age of twelve.

Heroin | Reviewer: Kathy Adams | 4/8/10

Under the Bridge is Kiedis's story of his heroin addiction, shooting up under a under-pass in downtown LA. He DID go there with a mexican junkie, and had to say he was going to marry the mexican's sister, so the other addicts would let him join them shooting up. It ws NOT his first time, far from it,he was very strung out by then, disappearing for days at a time . Read the book.

what this song is really about | Reviewer: Dylan | 2/11/10

it's funny. some guy said its about the L.A. riots. well i'll tell you right now he has no idea what he's talking about. Any chili peppers fan who has read "Scar Tissue" would know that this song is about the abuse of heroin, and he did heroin for the first time with a sleezy mexican guy under the bridge in downtown L.A.

Under the Bridge | Reviewer: King | 1/28/10

This song is about drugs. The lead singer used to go under bridges to shoot up when he had no where to live. If you have not read his biography, "Scar Tissue", it is highly recommended. You will learn about a lot of the songs meanings.

Love em' | Reviewer: Jake | 1/16/10

I've always been in love with Red Hot Chili Peppers ever since my brother started listening to them when I was around 8 and now I'm 20. On another note I agree with that dude with the long name. This song is about drugs, you can hear it in pretty much every line especially the whole "Under the bridge downtown" part

great song | Reviewer: someDudewithGuitarandAcigarette | 11/24/09

it's interesting to see the different interpretations to this song, but I do believe Keidis was clearly relating to drug addiction and in a very personal yet abstract manner showing showing the solitude one has to endure when they find themselves in such a state...to me this song shows the contemplation, the withdrawl, the yearning, the high, and the acceptance of it all... maybe you have to have been an addict to understand...

lonely | Reviewer: Jehss | 9/21/09

Ff you read Scar Tissue the autobiography by Anthony Keidis you will see that he wrote this song when he realised he wasn't so close to his bandmates anymore. He was struggling to stay sober and was feeling really lonely

Not about LA Riot | Reviewer: John G | 5/17/09

to the previous poster, well it's definitely not about the LA Riot. First of all they've said a lot that it's about heroin abuse, and also Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik was released on September 24, 1991 and the Riots took place in April 92

LA Riots 1992 | Reviewer: Janika | 4/23/09

This song was actually inspired by the LA Riots of 1992. It was about the pain he felt seeing the city destroyed by the violence. Singing from the perspective of a rioter he betrayed his love for the city by being involved in the killings (not that he actually did). Under the Bridge (musical part of song which is neither chorus nor verse) is where the real meaning of the song is expressed. Water under the bridge is an old saying equivalent to "let go of the past."
Apparently this is a part of the past that you young 'uns ;) are unfamiliar with. Look it up on Wikipedia.

favorite song | Reviewer: brndn1992 | 3/9/09

I'm not an addict of any sort but when I hear this and sing it it brings back painful memories. Growing up shy, insecure, and not outgoing at all makes you lonely as fuck and this song just explains me perfectly. The only friend at times to me is music and a pen and a pad. And when I sing the last part of this song I think of trying to defeat those horrible feelings and live life how I want.Especially after I attempted suicide and just lived in a dense bucket of crap for a period in my life.
