Twilight Lyrics - The Band

Review The Song (1)

F Bb F
Over by the wildwood
Dm
Hot summer night
Gm
We lay in the tall grass
C
til the mornin' light

If I had my way I'd never
get the urge to roam
But a young man serves his country
and an old man guards the home

Don't send me no distant salutations
or silly souvenirs from far away
Don't leave me alone in the twilight
'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of day

sponsored links
I never gave a second thought
Never crossed my mind
What's right, what's not
I ain't the judgin' kind
I can take the darkest oh
Storms in the skies
But we all got certain trials
burnin' up inside

Don't put me in a frame upon the mantle
For memories turn dusty, old, and gray
Don't leave me alone in the twilight
'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of day

Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Don't leave me alone in the twilight
'Cause twilight is the loneliest time of day

Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh ooh

Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

One of the more lyrical and melodic offerings from this under appreciated group, this civil war based ballad features the styling of Rick Danko's somewhat diminished presentation during the time when his voice could still deliver the sad plaintiff tonal range to capture the feeling that was always present, but not always available. The true talent of his performances and the stylings of the group have often been imitated, but alas, will never be dupicated in the eyes of their many fans!
