I come up hard, baby
But now I'm cool
I didn't make it, sugar
Playin' by the rules

I come up hard, baby
But now I'm fine
I'm checkin' trouble, sugar
Movin' down the line

I come up hard, baby
But that's okay, cause
Trouble man
Don't get in the way

I come up hard, baby
I'm in for real, baby
Gonna keep movin'
Gonna go to town

I come up hard
I come up, gettin' down
There's only three things
That's for sho'
Taxes, death and trouble, h'oh!

This I know, man, is
This I know, sugar
Girl, ain't gon' let it sweat me, baby

Got me singin'
Yeah! Yea-aah!
Hoo-ooo-ooo

Come up hard, baby
I had to fight
Took care of my bid'ness
Wit' all my might

I come up hard, awful hard
I had to win
Then start all over
And win again

I come up hard
But that's okay, 'cause
Trouble man
Don't get in my way
Hey, hey!

I know some places
And I see some faces
I've got the connections
I dig my directions
What people say, that's okay
They don't bother me, oh yeah

I'm ready to make it
Don't care what the weather
Don't care 'bout no trouble
Got myself together
I feel the kind of protection
That's all around me

I come up hard, baby
I be for real, baby
With a trouble minds
Movin', goin' to town

I come up hard
I come up, gettin' down
There's only three things fo' sho'
Taxes, death and trouble

Ooh, this I've known, baby, ooo!
This I've known, baby
Ain't gon' let it sweat me, baby
Woo!

'I'm on the ground, yeah, yeah!'

Woo, I come up hard
But now I've cooled
I didn't make it, baby
Playin' by the rules

Come up hard, baby
Now, I'm fine, I've
Checkin' trouble, sugar
Hey, movin' down the line
FADES:
Oooh.

more than soundtrack it is a travel back in time | Reviewer: Ron Wolpa | 3/19/11

That makes me travel back in time , "nothing can be more seventies" than this track despite I like most "Don´t mess wit mr. T" which I consider more distressed and dramatic. Only those guys who lived the 1970s years like me can really absorb the meaning of this kind of aesthethic. There are some soundtracks that became icons of 1970s , I can mention the soundtracks of the movies “The vanishing point” and “Shaft” , the last one composed by Isaac Hayes, who passed away in 2008 , was awarded by Academy for Best Original Song in 1972. For the younger generation who did not live those years and want to know what I mean I recommend try to watch movies of that era , hear the soundtracks , pay attention to the locations , to the slang , to the apparel , read about history of that time , etc.

Motown Rocks | Reviewer: Marvin M | 5/20/09

Marvin Gaye had the same band that played for the Temptations, the Supremes, Smokie Robinson, Jackson five and every Motown act of that time. Its amazing how one band was able to play for so many different styles.

Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing | Reviewer: Mzldysth1 | 1/22/09

OMG!!! This boy was off the chain. Whether he was crooning to the ladies or keepin it real about life, nobody has ever done it better. Trouble Man is a smooth groove that postulates about a hard knock life, but slides with sinful syncopation into the soft sounds of Jazz.

This song gets my groove going every time.

Marvin God | Reviewer: Chris Moncrieffe | 9/16/07

I love this song, it's spirit and attitude from each instrument that supports the amazing Marvin Gaye!!! I fondly refer to him as Marvin God.
